I've always hated the gym. I mean, why would anyone want to be a rat on a treadmill, when you could be *outside* doing the same thing!? They've just always seemed so sterile and disconnected to the actual enjoyment of moving. But, after years of steering clear of gyms, I joined the Fitness Edge today.
It was in the mid 90's on Monday, and too hot to go for a hike. I didn't want to sit like a lump in front of the TV all day, though, and remembered that you can often get a free trial day at a gym. So I very sneakily thought I'd work out in an air conditioned gym that day and just not join. Take that, system! However, I saw someone I knew there, who dragged me to a Zumba class. I was sweating like a pig, but I couldn't stop smiling. And there was the fatal flaw in my plan.... I was *gulp* enjoying(!!) the gym.
After hemming and hawing for two days, I signed up this morning and took my first yoga class, which was also very enjoyable for me. I think a mix of Zumba on my cardio days, with yoga on my off days will be just fine. I'm a very cheap person, and now that I'm paying to exercise, I'm going to milk it for all it's worth. :)
