So Far This Week......

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

I'm still feeling very sore from last week's procedure. My doctor said I could go back to water exercise on Monday. Alas, due to Isaac, the pool was closed on Monday. That really was a good thing because I was actually too sore to work out. I treated myself to lunch with hubby and a pedicure following lunch. It was a good day.

On Tuesday I completed a water workout of 135 minutes and ended up with an aching head afterwards. I didn't use any weights in the workout either. I stopped at the store on my way home and then rested at home. My sore spots were smaller Wednesday as a result of the rest. I'm trying not to let the necessity of toning down my workouts get me down.

Today, Wednesday, I was achy when I woke up. I wasn't sure if I would loosen up enough to go to water aerobics class. I got up and started moving around and decided to go to class. My agreement with myself was that if I still felt achy after stretching in the water, I would shower off and go home. The water felt wonderful and I did a 130 minutes of working out in the water. After working out, I had to run one errand, then drove home, ate lunch and rested. I was sore after working out but not as sore as yesterday so I'm making progress. I was glad that I again skipped the weights. I can't even imagine how I would have felt if I had chosen to use them!

Tomorrow, I will again assess how I feel and curtail my workout if necessary. I've scheduled a haircut for the afternoon after I rest. I'm glad that I am taking time to pamper myself this week!

Hope all that soreness is gone! Good for you for working out even when you don't really feel like it. Don't forget, now, that 30-60 minutes is a good workout for MOST people. -Marsha

Very Sore But Still Kicking!

Saturday, August 25, 2012

My procedure yesterday went well. It was very painful but I came through it just fine. Today I feel tired and my head feels bruised. The doctor said that I might have a headache (that may be worse) for 3-5 days. He was correct. I can't stand to have anything touch my hair or the actual surface of the back of my head. This won't last very long - just long enough for the pain receptors to dull. I can live with that.

Already I can feel that the muscles across my shoulders aren't tight like they were. This is an amazing improvement. I'm excited to see what I'll feel like in 3-5 days! I will rest and take it easy for the remainder of the weekend. Hopefully I will feel well enough to go to water exercise on Monday.

Anxious About Medical Procedure But Okay!

Thursday, August 23, 2012

As with all of my medical procedures, I'm feeling anxious about tomorrow's RFA procedure. I hate needles and this one involves a bunch. Hopefully I will be sedated enough that it won't bother me. Hubby says he feels anxious too so at least I'm not alone. LOL I know things will be fine but that still doesn't help a whole lot.

How am I dealing with my anxiety? Today I forced myself to go to the pool and work out for 2 hours. That really helped. I came home and fell asleep for about an hour. My stomach is a little unsteady so I'm eating light and drinking lots of water. I'm doing okay!

A Health Orientated Reward!

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

I have been struggling with fatigue and migraines for the past few weeks. It is depressing to think that my migraines might be coming back after I've done such a great job of exercising and trying to relax and rest.

I expressed my fears today to my migraine neurologist. She told me something very surprising! She said that the big pressure changes that occur during Florida's rainy season can actually trigger migraines. She also said that big drops in air pressure can cause arthritis pain. Her practice has been overwhelmed with migraine patients since June! (June is the beginning of Florida's rainy season.) Wow and here I thought it was just me! I can't tell you how much better knowing that made me feel. There is hope for me yet! Time to reward myself for the good job I'm doing!

Yesterday, in an effort to reward myself for withstanding all of the recent trials and tribulations (and doing a fairly good job of staying on track), I bought a smoothie maker. I have been watching it for weeks and it was finally on sale. Today after my doctor's appointment, I got out the box, read the instruction booklet and assembled the smoothie maker. I proceeded to make a smoothie for lunch. The smoothie was apple cinnamon. It was a little bit too thick but I'll improve with practice. The really cool thing was how much fun it is to create something that is packed with protein and vitamins! I'm already planning what I'll make the next time. I'd like to try to make a green smoothie. Who knew that using a small kitchen appliance could make me feel so motivated. Now that's what I call a healthy reward!

Awesome news and awesome reward. The bad news is you still get the pain and not much you can do about it til rainy season is over.

The pollen count is very high right now, also and my sinus cough is back so I can sympathize a little bit with your increased migraines. The doctor gave me some nasal spray yesterday which I'm hoping will help.

This entry really helped me! I have been experiencing migraines lately for no apparent reason...until I realized that we are coming off of our summer season and getting ready to begin our rainy fall. I'll still mention it to my doctor, of course. However, it makes me feel a little better.

My Radio Frequency Ablation Is Friday!!!

Monday, August 20, 2012

I got a call this afternoon from my pain specialist's office. They had a cancellation and would I be able to do my procedure this Friday? After having 2 bad migraines in 2 weeks, it was a resounding YES from me! I have an appointment with my regular migraine specialist tomorrow and I can't wait to be able to tell her. I've been reading up on the procedure too. I sure hope that it works for me.
