Trying A New Recipe

Monday, August 06, 2012

Today before our water aerobics class began, we were talking about cooking with apples. One woman said that she throws pork chops into the crock pot with apple chunks. She seasons it lightly with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and ginger. It sounded so yummy that I could almost smell it cooking as she described it. So when I got home I tossed all of the ingredients into my crock pot added a little bit of onion and right now the house smells heavenly from the spices. I sure hope it tastes as good as it smells!

I didn't know what I was going to make dh & andrew for dinner -then i saw this & remembered I had a pork tenderloin in the freezer. Just threw it all in the crock pot w/ everything you said (except cloves- allergy ) with a little butter and onion too. I can't eat it (vegetarian) but it smells good already and I'm sure they'll love it tonight!!
Thanks for sharing!!!

OK, now we need the report. How was it? Sounds scrumptious to me, Cyndi. I'm struggling to get my work outs done while Gwen is too sniffly to go to the Y. Miss seeing you, too. Did Kathy tell you I did come Sat at 10:30. I had planned to do deep water, but was really too tired after 7.5 mile run. You might have talked me into it. Maybe this Sat.

Finished With My To Do List

Sunday, August 05, 2012

While hubby is in Texas for our BIL's viewing and funeral, I decided to use my weekend constructively. Since the plane ticket was so expensive, I couldn't attend with hubby. We were both bummed about this, put there wasn't anything else that we could do.

I spent this weekend working on our to do list. I'm thrilled that I finished every item on the list. I completed shampooing the rest of the carpet, cleaned/polished the stainless steel sink, cleaned the microwave, polished/cleaned the glass top stove, wiped down the kitchen counters, did 4 loads of laundry, organized/cleaned out a closet, took a bag of clothes to Good Will, made up a "care" package to mail to my daughter and made chicken/veggie/pasta salad. I even made a peach smoothie for myself for dinner (I was too tired for anything else.) The dishes are done and put away as is the laundry. The kitchen sparkles and the carpets look and smell clean. The clothes are neatly folded and in the dressers and all of the throw rugs in the house are clean again. Now I will take a final shower and go to bed.

I Took A Day Off From Working Out Sort Of

Thursday, August 02, 2012

Sunday and Wednesday are my chosen days of rest from working out. Taking a day off to rest doesn't necessarily mean that you don't do some sort of activity. I just means that you take a break from doing your usual workout.

Yesterday, Wednesday, I decided to tackle several big tasks that were on my list of things "to do". I did several loads of laundry, hubby and I ran some errands in the morning, we went out for breakfast, met some friends for lunch and then tackled some big chores in the afternoon.

While the washing machine and dryer were humming away, I decided to vacuum the house. This was followed by shampooing the carpet in the dining room, front office and master bedroom. Hubby, meanwhile, was using some serious elbow grease to tackle some stubborn carpet stains in the great room and hall. We will try to shampoo that area tomorrow. The carpet was of dubious quality to begin with, so after 7 years with people and pets running in and out of the house, it looked pretty bad even though we try to shampoo it once or twice a year. Ripping the carpet up and replacing it with either tile or hard wood flooring would be a costly solution right now although we have seriously considered it.

I found the act of cleaning the carpet very therapeutic. The before and after comparison is usually fairly dramatic, so I derive a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from a job well done. Now the house smells fresh and clean and we have checked several large chores off our list.

While I technically didn't workout yesterday, I really got a good two hours of exercise while completing my chores. In fact, I can't remember the last time I was dripping with sweat like I did yesterday. My exercise tracker says that I burned 1200 calories and I sure felt like that was true!

Well I wouldn't call that a day of rest, but it certainly was a productive day. Good for you!! Honestly I need to follow your example and do a lot more housework. I just hate it. Often just can't seem to make myself do what needs to be done. Need an attitude adjustment.

Trying To Keep Exercise At 120 Minutes

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

In order to stay with my plan to keep exercise to 120 minutes or under, I am not leaving for my classes until 8:30a.m. I will take my time getting there, take my time in the locker room and not push myself to keep a frantic pace. My goal today is to pace myself and not go flat out for the full 120 minutes. We'll see if I can do it! emoticon emoticon emoticon

1.) I will drink H2O while exercising
2.) I will avoid the plank position
3.) I will use a noodle with abdominal work or use the vertical position
4.) I will shoot for 120 minutes of exercise
5.) I will do extra stretches before leaving the water

I have done fairly well meeting my goals for the last two workouts. I noticed that since I skipped the 3rd class yesterday my knees aren't as stiff and I don't feel as tired this morning. Instead of doing a 3rd class yesterday I focused on being active and running errands. We'll see how I feel today!
