Craft Fair

Yesterday hubby and I walked around the Bloom'n Arts Festival in our town. We didn't buy anything but just enjoyed walking and talking as we looked at beautiful works of art. Everything was crafted by hand and beauty abounded. It was a great day!

Good Workout Today

Despite the crowded water aerobics class this morning, I had a great workout. I think that you get out of it exactly what you put into it. There were 35 people in the class this morning so space was tight. I simply strapped on a floatation belt and moved to the outer edges of the class. I was able to move around way more than the folks in the shallow water and my workout was much more aerobic. As the old saying goes, Instead of griping when troubles are thrown your way - When life deals you lemons, make lemonade!!! I happen to love lemonade too!

A lady at the gym stopped me yesterday and asked me what I've done to change my body so drastically. "You've lost a lot of weight haven't you?" she asked. Seeing as how the scale has been going in the wrong direction lately, I said that I was losing but I seemed to be gaining lately.

The woman said, "But I've noticed that your body has changed shape - I mean it's changed a lot! You must be doing something."

One of my friends turned to her and said, "It's the 2.5 hours a day of exercise that she does!" I laughed at that because it is indeed true and my friends kid me about it.

"Wow!" the lady said. "I think I'm going to work out more then!"

I was tickled pink!

    It is so nice when someone notices. This morning two of my neighbors stopped me on my walk to tell me how skinny I was looking! But my scale is not moving well, either.

Feeling Blah Today

I'm feeling blah today. Perhaps it's because it is cloudy today, I don't know. I do know that I'm going to take the dogs for a walk, make sure that I drink plenty of water and crazy as it sounds eat. I just realized that it is dinner time and I'm not even hungry. I will have lean protein and a salad. I'm also tired so I will go to bed at a reasonable hour. Tomorrow I will feel a lot better!

The Sugar and Salt Connection

I made an interesting discovery as I began to read more food labels. Many things that are heavy on sugar are also heavy on salt. I knew about salad dressings, canned goods, frozen meals, cheese and other dairy products. What I had never looked closely at were energy bars, cereal, baked goods and sweets. Depressing but true is the reality that most things that you buy at the grocery store contain sodium and high fructose corn syrup. One way I can get away from them is to make my own food and to eat more fresh fruits and veggies. Then, I know for sure what is in my food. It may take a little longer to prepare but I'm worth the effort!

    You're so right. I very rarely use prepackaged or canned food anymore. If I use canned I rinse the salt off. I'm even starting to make my own salad dressings and it is not as hard as I thought it would be.

    for me the sodium was the real shocker...
in so many things hidden and unexpected
i have been tracking it for a few years now....

    Yeah, it's been a real wake-up call since I started tracking my sodium a few months ago. I mean, I knew that pre-made foods tended to have more sodium in them, but how much more was certainly a shock! Now I have all these wretched canned soups I can't bring myself to eat... drat it.
