Cutting Back On My Exercise

Monday, February 20, 2012

I'm still feeling tired but I went to water aerobics class this morning anyway. The water was warm and we had a substitute teacher because our regular teacher is sidelined with an injury. We did interval training today and really got our heart rates up. It was great. I did an additional 40 minutes of jogging and strength exercises beyond the class. My total for today is 85 minutes, which is cut way back from my usual 120-150 minutes. My goal is to see if I've been over exercising and causing myself to get too fatigued. We'll see.

Fatigue Is Kicking My Butt

Saturday, February 18, 2012

For the last four or five days I have felt horribly fatigued. I decided to monitor the amount of exercise that I'm getting to see if that is causing it. I've tried to keep it two hours or less since I became aware of all of the fatigue. (leaning toward the or less part) It may be several other things. It could be that my thyroid medication needs to be adjusted again. The doctor and I are keeping a close watch on that one. If the fatigue doesn't disappear soon, I will call his office as we agreed and go in to see him and/or have some tests done. Another thing it could be is allergies. When I came out of the gym this morning after working out, my car was covered with yellow, pollen dust. Our weather has been so crazy that the trees are confused and have pollinated already. The last thing I can think of is that I may be fighting off some sort of illness. This could be related to allergies as well as working out too much. Perhaps I'm run down and just need to rest. For that reason I stayed out of the water yesterday and did a lot of walking and running errands instead. My plan is that I will keep a close watch on everything and if I don't improve within the next week, off to the doctor's office I will go. This is all in keeping with my goal to pay attention to the signals that my body is trying to send me.

I cut wayyy back on exercise this weekend and don't feel a huge improvement. I ate more protein today and have a little more energy and am not nearly as cold. My guess is that the allergy issues and thyroid combined are responsible.

Good plan. You are definitely right about the allergies. My sinus cough is back and I think the humidity drains energy, too. I felt tired last week and was concerned that my anemia was back so I had it checked and I am right where I should be so mine is being blamed on the allergies this time. So many factors to consider.

Busy Day

Thursday, February 16, 2012

I had a little bit of trouble getting out of bed this morning but I forced myself. Off I went to water aerobics classes (2) for a total of 130 minutes. I next went to the Hallmark store to buy some cards. Then, I went to the grocery store to purchase some fresh fruit and a variety of other items. When I got home, I unloaded the car and then put things away. I made a pot of chicken chili and while it was cooking, I ate lunch. My active day caught up with me and I decided to rest on the bed with a good novel.
Hubby loved the chili so it was worth the time it took to make it. It will be an early night tonight because I'm tired!

Creativity Can Boost Your Mood

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

When I came home from water exercise and grocery shopping, I felt very blah. I know that I felt that way partly because I am tired. However, since we all get that way every once in a while, and I don't like myself when I'm feeling blah, I decided to take action. One of the things I do to boost my mood is get creative. So I decided to play with my Spark page. I found that the creative juices flowed almost immediately and I felt better right away. I got involved with finding free pictures and matching colors and voila, my blahs disappeared. Now I think I'll got flop on the bed with a good book. Rest is the next step in restoring my mood to normal.

What do you do when the blahs hit??? Please share!

I'm not letting the cold de-rail me from my goals!

Monday, February 13, 2012

Man, it was cold here this morning. (The low 40s here in Florida) I had the heat blasting in the car on the way to the YMCA this morning. I did this so I would be warm enough to dash from the car into the gym! I was anticipating the nice warm water and a good workout. Alas, the water temperature might have reached 80 (this afternoon LOL ) but was way too cold for those of us with knee replacements this morning. Not to be de-railed from my exercise goals, I turned to the treadmill in an effort to warm up. I did 1.6 miles in 35 minutes including a warm up and cool down. Not to shabby for my cold, creaky body. Once I had worked up a steam, I changed into my suit and headed for the nice warm therapy pool. The therapy pool is about 3-4 feet deep and kept in the 90 degree area. It is the one place where I can do serious squats and lunges. So I did those and several other exercises. It was amusing to see many of the people with join replacements in the therapy pool while the rest of our class toughed it out in the big, cold pool. I spent about 60 minutes in the therapy pool and never felt chilled (except when I got out!) during my workout. I did not let the cold de-rail me from my exercise goals!
