16th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, January 17, 2009

I just had to share this with everyone. Yesterday (Jan. 16th) was our 16th wedding anniversary and Sunday (Jan. 18th) is the 18th anniversary of our first date! My husband and I went out to dinner at a lovely restaurant. I had three tiny pieces of bread with margarine and 3 shrimp for an appetiser, a Margarita, 1 oz of a petite sirloin steak, salad with less than 1T of dressing and no croutons and some steamed veggies. I actually came okay on my calories.

It was a very romantic evening out. I felt full and took home almost all of my steak as did my hubby! What a change that was. Since I had allowed for all of the calories during the day, I relaxed and had a great time!

Water aerobics on a sore foot is so frustrating!

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Today, I did 90 minutes of water aerobics, 10 min New You Boot Camp Video and did the vacuuming that I didn't get to do yesterday. (All this with my sore heel.) I called the doctor's office today to find out the results of the x-rays. The doctor hadn't looked at my report yet but it looks like I've got bone spurs, arthritis and some bone loss. (After 2 surgeries and several screws this shouldn't be any big surprise) The good news is that they couldn't see any kind of break. (Of course they couldn't see a break back in 2000 when I broke the same foot.) When I saw the doctor on Friday, she told me to go ahead and do as much water exercise as I can tolerate, so that's what I've been doing. I did break out in a slight rash again but nothing like the last time, so I can live with it as long as it doesn't get bad. I think I may be sensitive to something in the water. The bad news is that my heel isn't getting any better and I'm finding the impediment to my movement very irritating and frustrating. When I step down on it, I feel pain - big time. The doctor said she'd call me back but never did. I just want to find out how to fix it so I can get back to normal movement!!!

I know that I tend to be compulsive about exercise and need to practice moderation but this so frustrating! Maybe there is a message here for me to slow down a bit. I get that and have been working on it but exercise and being active is the only thing that boosts my metabolism (I'm hypothyroid).

Thanks for listening to me vent. I feel much better now after getting all of this off my chest.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. I finally got a call from my primary care doctor and she was a little concerned about the x-ray vs. my pain level. The good news is that I have an appointment with a foot specialist on Monday, Jan., 19th. I never thought I'd say this, but I can't wait!!!!

Keep on the doctors! I hope that you get answers soon!

I know what you mean about wanting to move normally! I went to the doctor about my knee and I am restricted from extended walking for two weeks to let my knee get better! But we both we get better!

I think I'd want to give up! Good for you going through the exercise!! It makes me look bad - 22 years old - And I used being sick as an excuse not to exercise today. Hopefully you're better by the 24th for the group walk. That would be cool!

Wow! I'm really impressed with your commitment. You go get em!! Just remember to do it safely, because nothing says set back like being laid up with an energy. Good news that it's not broken, (hopefully that's true this time) :) Keep up the great work!

Wow! You are a go getter!! All that exercise & even with an injury! Incredible!! I love your determination. I had a problem with my heel awhile back & it was planter faciatus. It took a long time to heal. Take care & don't over do it!

Perhaps you already know or do this but...(I have hypothyroidism also).....eating every three hours with mini meals will also help your metabolism burn higher.

I sure hope you get some answers soon with your foot.

Another WOW day for exercise! Blows me away!

January 12 Exercise

Monday, January 12, 2009

I just completed 90 minutes of water aerobics followed by 60 minutes of sloooowww walking. I came home and did day 9 of the New Year Boot Camp. I probably will be sore tomorrow but I think it's worth it! Off to eat a healthy dinner and then rest my legs. I can do this, yes I can!!!

Reflection on Week 2 of January Challenge

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Week 2 of the January Challenge went well. Despite being on steroids for allergies, I managed to lose 1.5 pounds. My doctor was pleased with my progress too! She wants me back in the water as much as possible since I have a wider range of motion in the water. Since my allergies seem (keeping my fingers crossed here) to be under control, I was given the green light to go back into water and I was fine on my first time back! How I've missed being in the water. I'm hoping that I can continue with my water exercise classes without any more breakouts. Being in the water gives me a freedom of motion that I don't get any other way.

I decided to do the New You Boot Camp to vary my normal routine. Who would have thought six months ago that I could even attempt to do a boot camp!!! Doing the New You Boot camp has been challenging and fun; giving my exercise a new twist. I was sore for the first time in many months so I must have targeted some muscles that need work. It was a good kind of sore not an injury kind of sore. I especially like the fact that Coach Nicole offers some alternate body positions for those of us who have physical limitations.

I've certainly had some small victories this week. These small things really keep me going. Even though I gained weight in December, when I tried on one of my newer bathing suits to go to the pool , it was too big. YES, YES, YES !!! This tells me that I've gained some muscle and am actually smaller even though I weigh a few pounds more due to the December gain. I was very excited and I'd have to say that it was the highlight of my week!

You are doing so much right!! Isn't it great when the scale loses it power over us. Those numbers don't tell the whole picture. Yes on gaining muscle and losing fat and inches!! I am so glad you are able to get back into the pool. Have a wonderful weekend.
