Back to using weights again

After taking a week off from using weights, due to some bruised muscles, I was back in the water with my weights today. It felt great to really work my muscles. I only hope that I won't be overly sore tomorrow! I did a nice 25 minute warm up jog in the water and was more than ready for the water aerobics class workout. We had a substitute instructor today and he gave us a real upper and lower body kick butt workout. I'm beginning to see a flat spot in the saddle bags on the side of my legs emoticon and my legs are much more toned looking. Hooray!! I even have a nice bicep muscle emoticon !!! The best part is that I'm enjoying my workouts. I've made some new friends and I feel like we're in this together.

Using Household Chores to Workout

It's cloudy and humid today in Florida with a strong possibility of rain. Should I walk outside today? What happens if we get a thunderstorm? These are the questions I asked myself as I debated over how I was going to workout this morning. Then, there was the issue of time management due to a pile-up of household chores. Light bulb moment!!! Why not use my list of chores as a way to work out inside, in the air conditioning! So that's what I did. Boy did I work up a sweat! I worked for 140 minutes straight and my clothes were drenched. When I decided that I'd done enough for one day, I stripped down and put everything directly into the washing machine because it was too wet to go in the dirty clothes bag. I took a cool shower and treated myself to a shampoo and some scented body wash. After I was finished with everything, I sat in our recliner chair and looked around as I drank a 20oz glass of water. What a sense of accomplishment I felt! Yes, I felt tired but the house smells clean and looks great. I'm proud of what I did today and I exercised while I was getting the job done.

    Go, You!! Be careful hanging around with me...I could become contagious!!! hahahaha This is the only way that us "poor" people without gym memberships and exercise equipment are able to do our cardio minutes!!!! emoticon emoticon

  Wow - that is a great way to get your exercise. How nice to have the house all cleaned also. I hadn't thought to use the house cleaning as exercise. I do use the mowing as exercise. For you in FL I know it was nice to stay in the a/c instead of going outside.

Polk County (Florida) Group's Sixth Team Walk

Today our local team held it's sixth team walk! Nine people walked with our group today. We did two miles in about 40-45 minutes. Not a bad pace considering the heat and humidity! (It was 85 degrees and very humid) I love the way that the exercise combined with the camaraderie of Spark Friends makes me feel. The whole process of walking as a team is good for my body as well as my emotional support system. The time went so quickly because we're talking and getting to know one another. Before we knew it, we were through! Everyone liked it so much that we've already scheduled two more team walks. One for October 5th (a week day) and one for October 17th (a Saturday). I really look forward to these times of fellowship and exercise. I can't wait for the next walk! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm Feeling A Bit Better!

I'm happy to report that I was able to do my water aerobics class yesterday. I skipped the weights and kept the jumping up and down to a minimum and today I'm still sore but feeling much better. I had a medical massage on Monday and I plan to have one once a week for the next few weeks. It really made a difference. Tomorrow I'll go to water aerobics again - I took today off as a precaution. My doctor was right, heating the muscles and working them gently is very helpful. Tomorrow when I work out, I'll use water gloves. I won't do any weights until next week. The water is very healing and felt wonderful on my sore old body!

    That is good you found water aerobics helpful to you. I wish I was there right now. Had a strenuous day at work. So very tired. To make matters worse, I have a blister on my toe. Ouch.

I'm healing

I did my follow up with the doctor this afternoon. The ER doctor made me promise to see her today so I called Friday after I got home from the hospital and made an appointment. I wasn't as stiff this morning as I was yesterday. Yesterday I felt awful! Today, I started off my day with a medical massage which was very helpful and eased my stiff, sore muscles. Then I went to my doctor's appointment. The doctor said my neck, shoulder, hip, knee and lower back were all bruised (no big surprise there I could feel the bruises right away after the lady ran into the back of my car). She wants me to get a medical massage once a week and work back into my water aerobics class - starting tomorrow! I was a bit surprised at that but she did say to ease back into it so I'll be fine. If I'm not, she told me to call her immediately. I'm to follow up with rest and pain medication and either heat or ice when I get home after working out. Now that I have a plan, it will be up to me to use good judgement and moderation in my workouts.

    So sorry to learn that you were involved in an accident. Very happy you were not seriously injured. Those muscles and tendons and all can really hurt. Take your Doctor's advice and take it slow and easy. emoticon
