I'm healing

Monday, September 21, 2009

I did my follow up with the doctor this afternoon. The ER doctor made me promise to see her today so I called Friday after I got home from the hospital and made an appointment. I wasn't as stiff this morning as I was yesterday. Yesterday I felt awful! Today, I started off my day with a medical massage which was very helpful and eased my stiff, sore muscles. Then I went to my doctor's appointment. The doctor said my neck, shoulder, hip, knee and lower back were all bruised (no big surprise there I could feel the bruises right away after the lady ran into the back of my car). She wants me to get a medical massage once a week and work back into my water aerobics class - starting tomorrow! I was a bit surprised at that but she did say to ease back into it so I'll be fine. If I'm not, she told me to call her immediately. I'm to follow up with rest and pain medication and either heat or ice when I get home after working out. Now that I have a plan, it will be up to me to use good judgement and moderation in my workouts.

So sorry to learn that you were involved in an accident. Very happy you were not seriously injured. Those muscles and tendons and all can really hurt. Take your Doctor's advice and take it slow and easy. emoticon

I'm Making Progress!

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Today I completed my third day of water aerobics this week and I have to say that I'm making progress! I'm finding some of the moves much easier and I'm not as tired when I'm finished. I can feel the increase in my stamina and can see increased tone in my body. I'm enjoying working out and have made several new friends. It has turned out to be a big win/win for me!

I've Achieved My Exercise Goals This Week!

Friday, September 11, 2009

I'm feeling proud of myself today. I set a private goal of going to water exercise four times this week and I met that goal! I also did quite a bit of walking - the team walk yesterday and walking for the purpose of exercise inside an air conditioned place. I'm not sure how sore my muscles will be tomorrow, but mentally I feel great!

A Fifteen Minute Mile

Thursday, September 10, 2009

This morning our Polk County Group team met for our fifth team walk. Once again we all walked a mile in fifteen minutes. We were so busy talking and having a good time that before we knew it, we were all the way around the lake. I would have liked to do a second lap but I needed to get to water aerobics class. Who would have thought last year that I'd be able to walk a fifteen minute mile and not be the least bit out of breath! This is just one more example of measuring progress without the scale!

This Week's Workouts

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

So far this week, I've done 2 workouts in the water. Tomorrow, I intend to do another one. Tomorrow we have a substitute teacher and I understand he's a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to it! I've been alternating between water gloves and water weights this week and it seems to be helping my muscle soreness. I also cut down on the number of exercises I did with my arms above my head. This has helped with the pain in my shoulder and neck. (I still have pain but it isn't as bad when I'm more careful.) I will continue to do this until I see the neurosurgeon. I'm still waiting to hear about an appointment. I'd like to get it treated and move on with things! Patience is a virtue and all that!

I'm feeling pretty good about what I've been doing. My arms are looking more toned - I expect I'll be able to see more tone as the time goes on. I've only been consistently doing the water aerobics class for 5 weeks now. I'm enjoying it!
