Today, we have family gathered for some holiday weekend quality time. We'll go out to breakfast (got to love the egg whites, veggies, fruit and whole wheat toast!) and then go to yard sales. I love going to yard sales! For one thing, I get the chance to get out and walk around for a few hours while doing something that is fun. Secondly, I have managed to upgrade several light fixtures in our house; getting a custom look for pennies on the dollar. It really makes me feel good to get a great "bargain" and it's fun too! My hubby was proudly showing off our Tiffany lamp and our crystal chandelier yesterday to his family, when I walked in the door from going to the post office. They were suitably impressed that I had spent a grand total of $35 for the two beautiful fixtures! The best part was that I walked and walked and walked the day I bought them! I never realized ,before I started tracking my activities, what the added benefits are of looking for exercise opportunities. They are everywhere if you look. I now take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever I can. When I go to Wal Mart I allow enough time so that I try to go up and down every isle in the store (even if I'm not buying anything from that isle). It's a good workout (when it isn't crowded) plus you get to walk indoors in the air conditioning. That's a plus when you live in a place like Florida! Sometimes I go to the mall and just walk a few laps indoors. I even manage to do it without buying anything! For me, it adds a little variety to the usual walking around our neighborhood. So, I'm going to continue to look for exercise opportunities that are maybe not so obvious. They're fun and painless!
