I feel strong today!

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

I had a terrific workout today and I'm pooped. I've been eating well since the first of August and I'm feeling healthier. I am surprised at how strong my muscles still are because it's been a while since I was in a regular workout mode (other than just walking). I gave my workout my all today - which may mean that I'll be sore tomorrow. I think I'll probably go to water aerobics again tomorrow but cut my intensity by half or I'll hurt myself. Today I was proud of myself. My legs felt like noodles when I got out of the water. lol There is a Wal Mart behind the pool and several of the guys who were on a break stood around for a while and watched our class. We're contemplating a group wave later in the week just to stir things up and to keep the "peeping Toms" on their toes! That should be fun!

Improvement!

Sunday, August 16, 2009

I went to water aerobics 2 times last week and I wasn't sore, itchy or hurting. Yea! This week I will try to add one more class and I'll walk the other 4 days. I have an appointment with my endocrinologist on September 2 to check to see if my numbers are better. Maybe, just maybe, we'll nip this latest roller coaster in the bud. I'd love to even out and start losing weight again! I know that stress and steroid shots are a hindrance to my progress and I'm adjusting my attitude. I feel more healthy and the exercise is helping. My allergies are getting better too! I'm getting back where I want to be!

I know what you mean about steroid injections. It has been my arch enemy for the last 4 years. May you truly progress through this time. God bless,
Mary

Back into the water today!

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Today I went to water aerobics and I had no problem with the water in the new pool! No breakouts and no itchy spots! Yea! The class was very challenging and I can see that I have a log way to go before I'm back up to par. I am willing to rise to this challenge. I'm getting back into the groove and loving it!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Polk County Group (Florida)

Thursday, August 06, 2009

Last night our Polk County Group had their monthly team dinner. This time we added a new twist to it and one of our team members hosted a BBQ. A great time was had by all (Including several husbands who came with team members!)

Our group is a new one - formed in December 2008. At first we only had a few members and slowly over time we started to grow. We are now at 61 members! We have had four team dinners and three team walks. The personal contact is fun and the exercise and healthy eating is good for us too!

I can't tell you how important this personal contact with SP members locally has become to me. Getting together to talk, laugh and share support is so valuable in our journeys to health. If you don't belong to a local group, please think about joining one. If there isn't a group near you, think about starting one and recruiting your friends to help you. I think you'll be glad that you did!

I have excellent intentions on making it to one of the dinners, and I *will* get to one before 2009 is out! Just have to get this wedding madness taken care of, and reserve my folks to act as babysitters :) I was so glad to see I wasn't the only Polk Countian here on SparkPeople!

One Year Anniversary On Spark People

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday that my massage therapist was telling me about this wonderful site called Spark People. It only took her 5 tries to get me to join! lol Flash forward a year and here I am. I've learned so much this year and made so many friends. I feel blessed.

I got an opportunity to share the leadership of our local SP team/group. This has really been rewarding. I can't tell you how helpful having a local Spark group is for support (as well as fun :) ) . Putting a face with a name makes SP so much more personal. We meet monthly for dinner and have had quite a few team walks. The members in our local group are a wonderful, supportive team of people. They make such a difference; I'm so lucky to have them in my life!

I found that I've only been really sick once since I joined SP because I've been taking much better care of myself. I won't lie to you, it has been a very stressful year. In October I strained my back, at Thanksgiving my father died, in December I became allergic to my gym's pool water (water exercise is a major part of my program), in January I broke my foot and irritated my Achilles tendon, in the spring my spine started acting up and in May my daughter was in a very serious car accident. I learned something very valuable from all of this - my weight number isn't as important as my overall health (although it certainly does affect it) and it's important to have balance in my life.

The balance between mind, body and spirit is essential. Lately I've been obsessed about the fact that my weight has jumped around so much. Some of that is my fault and the rest has been beyond my control. I will control what I can and let the man upstairs control the rest. The good news is that my mind and spirit are so much more in balance now! Wow, what a difference a year has made! I know that the number on the scale doesn't define the person I've become. This is a HUGE step forward for me! Healthy habits are mostly in place and all I have to do is settle back into my Spark routine and I know that I'll be successful on my journey to health. Wow! How fantastic is that?

So, I'd like to thank Spark People for a wonderful first year. Without you and the help and support of my Spark Teams and Spark Friends, I wouldn't be where I am today.
