I slept fairly well last night but at about 2a.m. I woke up with a headache. Bummer! The good news is that I got up, walked around, went back to bed, turned over to the other side and went back to sleep. I awoke again at about 4a.m. because my left thigh was throbbing. I don't know why either. I just turned over put a pillow between my knees and went back to sleep. That time, I didn't wake up until 7a.m. When I woke up I felt very stiff. This was most likely due to the fact that I increased the intensity and decreased the length of my workout yesterday. I also had some dry patches on my skin this morning so I decided to skip the water workouts until next week. Instead, today was a walking day.
So, what could I do for the day today? Wow! My schedule has been so tight for the last few weeks that having free time was a big treat! I decided to catch up on some things that I've been wanting to do all week. First, I went to my WW weigh in and I lost one pound. Insert a happy dance here! Next, I went to the Hallmark store in the mall and used $10 worth of coupons and got some freebies and bargains. I'm making progress on my Christmas shopping! Insert another happy dance here! After that I got gas at the gas station and only paid $3.29/gallon. Let's have another happy dance! Next I took a pre Thanksgiving trip to Walmart for groceries and Christmas gifts. Yes you heard me correctly, I am already doing my shopping for Christmas while also doing shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. Man was it crowded!!! I believe the snowbirds have landed in Florida for the winter! At Wally's World, as I like to call it, I was able to purchase all of the groceries on my list, 3 Christmas gifts, a great big turkey breast for $12 and I used around $12 worth of coupons. As an added plus, many of the things on my list were on sale because of Thanksgiving! I did a happy dance all the way out to my car! After loading my treasures into the back of my car, I started the drive home. I was afraid that because of the time, I would get caught in school traffic. Not so! I travelled the whole 15 miles without any problems and never got snagged in traffic. God was smiling on me as I put a smile on my face and a song in my heart Finally, I stopped at CVS to pick up a prescription. I had a very short wait and, drum roll please...... my prescription was ready as promised! Happy dance here
As luck would have it, hubby was home to unload my car for me, so I could quickly whisk away the Christmas gifts I had purchased and hide them, since all 3 were for him. While I was putting the gifts away, hubby unloaded the car. He also had a great day and was in a good mood which made me even happier. Together, we put the groceries away in record time! It was a happy dance day!

Last week, I made a decision to do shorter, more intense morning workouts. I also made an effort to stretch more at the end of my workouts. My plan was to decrease my morning workout and increase my activity during the rest of the day, so that the same workout time is spread out over the course of the day. The information that I got from my ActiveLink told me that when I work out for too long a time period in the morning, I become too tired to do activities in the afternoon.
The ActiveLink showed me that even though I worked out like a maniac for 2-3 hours in the morning, my daily cumulative calorie burn wasn't that much. I was resistant to the idea at first and felt very frustrated. I was stuck thinking that working out for 2-3 hours should be enough to lose weight even though I did very few other types of activity during my day. I decided to experiment with my workout lengths. My weight loss had already stalled so I had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
What happened, surprised me! Just cutting down my morning workout time and increasing it's intensity, gave me more energy later in the day. For example, after I left water exercise today, I
did some shopping, went to a doctor's appointment, came home, vacuumed the house and folded laundry. I'm still not experiencing the exhaustion that I often feel and it is almost 5p.m.!
Last week when I did this, I lost 2 pounds and I said goodbye to a two week plateau. No wonder my weight loss had stalled. I don't need to work harder, I need to work smarter. I can see now that I was resistant to change and it was stalling my own weight loss plan. Pacing myself has always been an issue because I've consistently been the type of person who works at 100% effort. By working at 75-80% percent instead, I could add additional activity later, after taking a break.
I read in a Spark article that you get the same benefit from three 20minutes workouts that you get from one 60 minute workout. Plus, my ActiveLink tells me that I get more overall calorie burn because my cumulative daily activity level increases. Now I've got a new plan for myself!

I'm feeling a little tired this afternoon after a good morning workout. I think I'll go take a well deserved nap!

Sunday is my day off from working out. Instead, I've come up with a variety of ways to push myself into being active without doing an actual workout. One of those ways is to tackle my "to do" list. I use this as activity opportunity time. There were several things on my list today and I got all of them done. I started off by putting together a bookshelf that I purchased last week. All of the bending and contorting to assemble it, made me work up a good sweat. After about 55 minutes, voila! My shelf was complete. Hubby helped me to move it into the front parlor. Next, we went through our collection of records - 33s, 45s and some 78s. We organized them so that they would sit on the bottom shelf of the bookcase, open side facing the back of the bookcase. This meant adjusting the other shelves so that the albums could fit. After we had the albums arranged hubby left the rest of the organization to me. I arranged the 45s in a small record stand and put the audio tapes next to them. I was on a roll! Hubby put our newly purchased turn table/radio/CD player/tape player/CD burner on top. It looks great. We cleared all of the boxes and bags that held the records out of the room and I broke down the giant box from the bookshelves and put it into the recycling bin.
I decided to put part of my collection of paperback books on the top shelf. This required me to walk the lenth of the house about 10 times, carrying armloads of books. The task enabled me to completely clear all the paperbacks off my dresser and nightstand. Who knew that my dresser and nightstand were actually that big! LOL By this time I had worked up a real sweat which made my skin glow, my hair curl and my shirt stick to my back. As long as I was sweaty anyway, I decided to go one step further. I stripped the bed, changed the towels in the kitchen and bathroom, started another load of laundry and remade the bed. Hubby folded the laundry (He is such a keeper!) that was in the dryer and I put another load in the dryer before starting the washer for the sheets and towels. So with the washer and dryer humming, I fixed myself a giant romaine lettuce salad, with a little shredded cheese on top, for lunch. It felt great to sit down to eat. I drank lots of water too!
After lunch, I clipped coupons and went through my stack and pulled out all of the expired coupons. I balanced my checkbook and set up my weekly schedule. Thank goodness we're having leftover turkey chili for dinner because I'm pooped! My tracker says that just by doing the items on the list, which took beween 2 and 3 hours, (I logged 95 minutes) I burned 945 calories. And this was done on my "off" or "rest" day! I'm so grubby that I'll have to take another shower before going to sleep tonight! I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment and got in lots of activity at the same time.

I'm so proud of myself! Today I weighed in and I lost 2 pounds this week. I'm doing a happy dance! One person at our WW meeting earned her 25 pound pin. When asked what it was that was making the biggest difference for her, she said exercise. I agree but what is even more important is tracking your food and measuring your portions. I've also built in some rewards for myself to re-enforce positive behaviors and successes! I am worth all of the time and energy that I spend to get healthy!
