Help Me!!!! I DON'T know how to FEED myself...miserable

Monday, October 10, 2011

hi spark

I think that boils it down

Something is WRONG!

I am focusing on my FOOD aka Diet....and I am at a lost!

I had 3 rest day...well, today had an outting (walk and carrying 30 lbs tot)

AND USUALLY, after 3 rest days, I should be FINE!!!!

I am not

I have a headache.....
I get REALLY REALY hungry at 3-4 pm (I mean RAVENOUS)

GOOD news, is I am not feeding myself JUNK!

I am frustrated b.c I am EATING HEALTHY and feeling so NOT HEALTHY

I am within my range all the time!
I do great on my ranges (cals, protien, fat and carbs!)

So what am I doing wrong?

I exercise burning 500-700 cals a day (4-5xs a wk)

And Spark says I should be at 1500-800!
and I am at the high end most days!

OK.... I know I am not DRINKING enough...

I think being sick, and running ....I need to drink MORE than 8 glasses.
b/c feel so dehydrated............so will look into that more.

I know RUNNING makes you hungry.

but I get a wierd hunger pang.

it's not I want to eat ANYTHING!
i am craving PROTEIN!!

a yogurt, PB, or MEAT actually satisfies.

OK enough...........

HELP...........what should I do to educate myself?

I am terrible with diet plans, I can't follow daily plans.

But I find mindful eating helps (like tracking sodium and stuff, I can do)

is there a resource I can look into!

thank you!!!

spark on

ps: not pregnant lol chked

ADDED: marathon training, but only in beginning, not running more than usually YET! but eating cleaner by 80% than bef

since posting:
I rechked my tracker
I was OFF by 100-500 cals per day....depending on how hard I exercise
I have googled RUNNING and nutrition (aha moments, will try as suggested)

and i ate a Fage yogurt (greek yogurt with honey)
the headache is gone, and feeling much better

that tops me off at 2000 cals

I think today's outting burnt more cals than I tracked ;p

Looks like you got some really good advice- smaller meals throughout the day, more water and just listening to what your body craves! Also, how are you tracking your calorie burn? Through the Spark tracker? I found that it can be a little off when it comes to running, many times it gives me a lower burn than my HRM. Just a thought :)

Hydration is super important - as everyone here mentioned - I use the (vanilla) protein mix, also - 1 serving a day (2 of the big scoops) split into 2 servings after workout (am &pm) - 1/2 serving mixed w/ 1/4 c. Greek yougart & 1/4 frozen (thawed, natch) blueberries & water (mixed to pudding consistency)and 1/2 serving mixed w/1 tablespoon peanut butter & water (mixed to pudding consistency).

Good luck to you!!

Checking your water intake is a must especially since you're putting in so many miles. I drink at least 2 liters daily. On days that I feel famished, I find that eating hard boiled egg whites is helpful. This tends to diminish the hunger pangs. Another thing that is helpful is drinking 4-8 oz of 1% milk and some protein. This REALLY helps.

Thank you for this post. I'm in the final month or so of my marathon training and let me tell you, get that hunger under control now because it only gets WAY worse! :)

I feel so silly after reading everyone's comments about more water. That is such a no brainer...that i had never thought of.

Best of luck to you with marathon training! The journey is amazing!!

More protein is good! It feeds your muscles. And yes, more water! You would have to drink more than 2 gallons per day consistently to get too much, so try that out... May 10-12 glasses at first and see if it helps!

Check out bodybuilding.com for Jamie Eason's meal plan. Lots of good choices, for good fats, protein, etc. I look at her food items and pick from those categories when preparing a meal.

You must have more water. It's essential or you will feel hungrier maybe light headed maybe headache. Make sure you get enough dietary fat. Every day.

maybe you're just coming down with something? Hope you feel better soon!

Drink more water(it is not optional).
What are you entering into spark for your calorie range?
There is a formula: goal weight x 10 +200 for low days and +500 for high days.
Fiber and the 5-6 small meals a day keep the hunger pains away :)

You know I'm glad you rechecked...I was also wondering if it was TOM soon...BUT to me sometimes we just need to listen to our body more than guidelines...if you're working out that hard and you're hungry and not feeling well- feed yourself...and you're feeding yourself good and healthy foods, I don't think that's wrong. I was feeling horrible one day and was at my calorie range already and just said I feel like I need to eat...and I did, made sure it was good for me and I felt better!

April, if you are craving protein eat more protein. You are doing heavy-duty cardio and weights with P90x, and you probably need more protein. Make a protein smoothie - GNC has muscle milk light which doesn't have as many calories as the traditional muscle milk. Don't worry so much about fitting yourself into sparkpeople's calorie requirements. As long as you are feeding your body with nutrients and not junk, definitely feed that protein craving. Just my two cents.

yes, yes, and yes to all of the comments above. I am big into my fruit smoothie shakes with protein powder in the am - that really helps me after my early runs. WATER - I try to get atleast 10 cups a day - I can totally tell when I don't. Don't stress girl - you will get this all figured out!

I try to eat frequently through the day rather than 3 meals because otherwise I'm famished. Also, make sure you up your water.
I'm glad your yogurt helped.

    Hi Friend!

Check out this thread I just posted in our B210K Team about eating and running:
Maybe something there will be helpful.

Also, I agree with the advice that you can spread your calories out into smaller meals throughout the day to help keep hunger at bay. Also definitely the water!

But I believe that if you are really craving something (especially when we're talking protein, not chocolate cake) you should eat it! Your body is telling you something! As long as you don't go crazy and you choose healthy options, you will be fine. Sure beats a headache!

Remember that the tracker is a helpful tool, but it's not perfect, and you need to listen to your body and figure out what really works for you.

Good luck friend!!!

I agree, more water may be helpful. Do you feel like you get enough fats? I found that my appetite regulated a lot better when I started to incorporate lots of healthy fats like almonds, avocado, flax and olive oils, etc.--even though I use more calories to eat fat, I am less hungry overall.

We eat to live! Eat foods that make your body feel good on a nutritional standpoint. Fuel yourself with quality foods, lean proteins & lots of fruits/veggies. Also, you have to watch your blood sugar. Not eating the right things can cause a lot of unwanted issues. Try eating 4-6 small meals a day. Incorporate a protein shake or smoothie. Those are my tips.... I hope you get this resolved. Headaches SUCK!! Hang in there.

I believe we should listen to our bodies. When I'm extra hungry or craving something healthy I eat it. emoticon I find fiber helps with keeping me full. But there are times when I'm active that I crave more protein.

:( I'm doing the same thing as far as tracking everything, but I'm still at the slow end on the exercise front so I've been fine, the nutrition is enough for me. I have a super fit friend who's been eliminating different things from her diet to see if it is a food that's making her not feel well and get headaches, and right now she's on her 5th week of no sugar, and she's had no headaches. She's doing all this under the supervision of a doc... maybe you could consider seeing a doctor or nutritionist? I'm sure other people that have been doing this longer may have more helpful suggestions :D but that's what I could think of. *hugs* no fun. If you were standing here I'd ask you (while laughing, and winking, of course) if you were prengnat :D But I'm sure you know what you feel like when you are... emoticon Feel Better!!!

hi spark

Just came back from this really awesome farm!

Met friends and their kids!

emoticon emoticon emoticon everywhere ;p

It was fun...It was HILLY..... what part of Pittsburgh ISN'T

had to carry tot ;p

I remember blogging this exact event last year!

I was freaking out.....and blogged TREAT not CHEAT DAY

I was afraid of being surround by food and etc.

Food was LAST thing on my mind!
In fact it's not even on the list!

Pies, and funnel cakes and kettle corn
the smell of Fair!

NADA... not even curious!

usually the sign FUNNEL CAKE gets me all happy!

we had a healthy sandwich (create your own, and an apple ;p)

the kids had a blast!!!!!

This is the 3rd fair like event and I didn't even care for the food!

I have to THANK my sis in ASIA for this!

what is that, obsessed with food, blog and takes pics
and see posts it on FB 100x a day!

she is skinny as a stick, and one yoga class she is back to size XS.

BUT the daily torture of looking at BEAUTIFUL, EXOTIC, FOOD MAGANIZE type pics......I think I can look at food and not be hungry!

I yell at her for showing me stuff i can only get there (all over the world)

I have been getting them A LOT
I think it's FOOD related!

either not eating enough, or not balanced

DEHYDRATION causes Headaches!!

also have sinus!

I have also been Craving PROTIEN!

Although I have not up the mileages or fitness minutes
I have been increasing the Intensity of my workout. burning more cals!

will tweak that this week...and see if there is a change ';p

leaving you a pic from today

Lose -22 in = 0 lbs diff.....BUT up 7 in and GAIN 13 lbs???????(pic)

Saturday, October 08, 2011

hi spark

i actually put this blog yesterday and took it down....it didn't come out how I wanted....until I talked to hubby today!

So yesterday i posted these two pics that I took down.

i didn't want to sound like I was obsessed about wanting to go back to my 157 days.

This isn't about that!

I am just confused as how MY body works and in relationship to the SCALE!

or more accurately MUSCLE vs FAT

Here is my CONFUSION

OK why is there ZERO lbs difference in this pic???????????

AND there is

13 LBS difference here!!!!???????????

OK i understand that OBVIOUSLY you can see that I AM smaller on the left!

BUT only by inches! 7.5 to be exact

and if you are wondering, 22.5 inches difference in 170 pics!!!!

And you all have seen the 5 lbs of muscle vs 5 lbs of fat pics....it does make sense, now!!

ANSWER to why the ZERO lb Difference vs 13?

I think it's that I am more muscle now, and as they get leaner my weight will eventually go down.

And yesterday I saw FIT-WHIT's blog on how progress is SLOW in maintenance but WOW how ripped she is now! not much change in weight!
(which will no doubt be a popular blog ;p)

I aslo started reading a lot on Runner world's mag!

What I am going through is very common and I did the big mistake of not eating right ;p
so I have been rectifying that this year.

And i think my 157 was unsustainable,..... here is why!

Love my hubby:

So after I took the blog down, I told him about it in the car today.
Explaining the pics and what not!

Think it went right pass his head!

HUBBY: Honey its not about the scale...muscle weighs more than fat blah blah blah........ANYWAYS......I have to tell you, you look sooo much better than in May!!!

ME: ARE you kidding me, I have PROOF I am smaller, blah blah blah!

Hubby: Really??????

[I was wearing that HOT BOOT and SKIRT today and new do]

ME: Yes! I am smaller, blah blah blah

HUBBY: I don't know, you look better today! I think it's a body image thing....

1. you are emoticon than May

2. You were always emoticon (Exhausted) in May (p90x AND running)

3. you have a better body image of yourself emoticon

4. you are more Confident too

5. you are more ACTIVE, you want to do more stuff!!!

That is soooooo true!!! love my guy!

But I do feel I love me HERE more than in May!

and the reason I made the comparision in the beginning was i thought I was smaller than MAY!

Everyday I think i am smaller and leaner and it's the first time!

but this time I appreciate it!

spark on!

Since post:

she mentioned MAINTAINABLE weight

Love it, I think at 157 I was grumpy, tired, hungry and probably dehydrated too

Such an enlightened blog and yes Great Hubby!! When we are happy, I guess it just shows and people see it. I mean I've met skinny people that are so grumpy that it made them look old and not pretty at all.
I always told my teenagers when they are having image issues because of some zit somewhere where I can't even see it that if they smile and exude happiness, those flaws that they feel they have dissapear in the other person's eyes. All they see is a warm happy person full of life!!

You look awesome and appreciate all your encouragements here!!

Thank you for this blog! I am constantly on the scale, obsessing over every ounce lost or gained. This really opened up my eyes. Congrats on your success!!

I really needed this today! I just weighed today and found that I am 20 lbs heavier than I was at the end of June... but my pants are just a bit snug from then. Thank goodness for muscle mass and tape measuring! Congratulations.. you should be so proud of your success!

Thank you! Especially when you are trying to build muscle that thing can be frustrating! Made a pact with SHRINKENRUNNER to put mine away for a month.
