I miss home a little bit today since it's Canada Day. But I'm trying not to think about it too much.

Stuck with healthy stuff for food today, although I know I will overeat at dinner because I am still not able to keep myself to "reasonable" portion sizes, especially with carbs. Rice is *meant* to be eaten by the bucketful, I'm sure of it.

But I went for a walk on my lunch break today. Only ten minutes but it's something. Got my butt outside on a pretty day and circled the parking lot. I'm trying to set up a weekly walking date with a friend, but she's not sure she can commit. It's so much easier when you have someone else doing it with you!

I also spread a little Spark today by giving a coworker the address for the Sparkpeople website. I mentioned my new 8-cups-of-water goal and she said something about needing to diet - so I told her there's a better way and told her to try out the site. Hope she gives it a shot!

June 30 2010

Well, a lot has changed and I've gotten far away from my health and weight loss goals. So I'm back and I'm going to try harder to make it stick. I know it's important. It's not just to look better, it's to FEEL better. To BE better. I need to figure out exactly what my goals are and what my motivation is, and maybe then it'll be easier to keep the Spark going. I'm going to ponder those questions and get the answers on here, in writing, so I can hold myself accountable and maybe have some friends help remind me of them from time to time.

I'm starting slowly, trying to get some streaks going to encourage myself. I'm working on the 8 cups of water plan, and getting in two servings of vegetables daily. Started tracking my food again, too, which will help a lot. Getting in 10 minutes of exercise is a tougher one, because I'm usually so tired all the time (and I'm lazy, I admit it). But it needs to be done.

So, I got my 8 cups of water and my vegetables in, and I haven't even had dinner yet! I did slip at a work party and have 2 cupcakes, but I also had a few handfuls of veggies (without dip!) and I turned down the fried chicken and biscuits.

Baby steps.

Bike time

Monday, June 22, 2009

I brought my exercise bike back up from the basement and stuck it in front of the TV where it used to be. I've been on it twice so far. Trying to work up to a full half hour... 15 minutes the first time, and 20 minutes today. Maybe tomorrow will be 25 minutes! I'm so happy that it's not clicking anymore - the reason I stopped using it and banished it to the depths of the basement is thatit developed an irritating clicking noise every time the right pedal passed a certain spot. It got very annoying very quickly. But it's miraculously cured! Maybe punishing it with a three-month basement confinement was the key.

Try some WD-40 if it acts up again.

Thats like sending it to its room to think the situation over. Glad it learned the lesson and is in full cooperation now.

I don't walk as many steps as I thought I did. I bought a step counter and wore it all day, getting up to only about 2 miles worth of steps. That's horrible! I need to walk more! My goal for tomorrow is 3 miles of walking during my normal day - I'll take the long way everywhere!

Oh, and that steak stir-fry? So successful that the man wants me to go out and buy more supplies while steak's still on sale so we can have it again this week! emoticon

Recipe successes

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

I tried a stir-fry tonight to use up the leftover steak from last night's steak salad. I started out intending to use a Rachel Ray recipe for "beef & broccoli", but I was missing a few things, and I wandered pretty far from the original idea. The result was incredible, and I added it to SparkRecipes just in case anyone else wants to try it out. After trying this, I will never use a bottled "stir-fry sauce" again. This was so easy and so tasty! and the best thing about a stur-fry is you can just toss anything in!

But now I'm full and still under my calories for the day. Maybe I need ice cream. emoticon
