Moved to a new town and a new job this month, and am trying something new health-wise, too. Want to move toward Paleo slowly. I've started watching my carbs a bit; I'll bet I was overeating by a fair bit on carbs, but I've started food tracking again, and am happy with where I'm keeping my carbs at the moment. The first day I decided to move in a Paleo direction, I ate something like 113 carbs and was shaky and just generally felt weird. I read there can be a "breaking in" phase, but in my line of work with 10-hour shifts and rotating shifts and needing to be alert to help people in crisis situations, I can't afford a break-in period. So I'm aiming to slowly eat all the carbs I own in moderation over about a 1-2 month period - maybe longer, if my flour, etc. aren't used up by then. And I want to slowly add more proteins. The next couple days, I ate 200-something carbs, which is probably better than what I had been eating. Today, I ate 180, and I'm feeling good - not buzzy or shaky from over- or under-consumption of carbs. Just feeling good. And more awake than usual. (Tired is the norm for me.) My focus is pretty good, and I'd like to keep my carb intake about here while I transition to Paleo. Then maybe aim for 150 carbs/day. Then probably 100, then probably eventually 50-100 per day. I don't want to be completely strict about this; I want to indulge now and then, and eat what I'm served when I go to others' houses. But when I'm just responsible for me, I want to be eating closer to Paleo than not.
Now for my new fitness direction. In a nutshell, I'm trying to make fitness more of a lifestyle - better posture, walking to work when I can, doing planks and pushups while I'm just hanging out in the apartment, etc. And then the occasional jog. :)
Anyone else drastically revamped their fitness goals lately?
