Rainy day whine

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for the half marathon at the end of April. Training has been going good until this week. It's been raining all week and I don't like running indoors. My hips don't like running on the treadmill. Walking is fine but not running on it.

I ran on the Y's indoor track Monday. It was crowded. I loose track of how many laps I've done. Even trying to use a counter, I loose track. I start thinking about other things and forget to add the lap. I do so much better outdoors. Time passes by faster.

I will be happy to run outdoors again. Maybe Friday.

    Hope the weather has improved and you can get to run outside.

Give yourself a huge emoticon for going to the Y, despite the problems in monitoring what you've done, many folk would use the bad weather as an excuse for not doing anything!

When we're making long term changes, its not just about how far we've run, how many minutes of exercise etc its the fact that despite potential barriers we've got up and done something. I've had a fair few times of late when because of health reasons I haven't been able to exercise, but I've seen it as a real positive that the fact I can't do those things bothers me (six months ago exercise wasn't part of my life, so not being able to do it wouldn't have registered for me!).

  I never get any notices of blogs you write. Maybe you have your settings that way. I am envious that your Y has an indoor track. I have looked for one in private gyms and public ones and there is not one within 1 hour away. I would like to use it at night as I don 't like gym machines.

Hope the marathon went well, I know this blog is a couple months old.

    Hi there,

I have gone from the elliptical, to running on the treadmill, to running on a soft track to running outside. I have to say, running outside is my favorite--BY FAR! I was running at my gym on their indoor track, and there was AT LEAST 20 other people running/walking with me. I didn't think it would bother me, but I couldn't focus, and I had to run around the other people, so, I was running faster than my normal pace. Which means, I also couldn't finish my usual 4 mile run because I was out of breath by mile 2.5 Grrr...I usually get up at 4:30 so I can get to the gym, so I can AVOID people, but not today.

Oh well. I'm training for a 5k in 3 weeks, but like Scarlett would say, "Tomorrow is another day..." emoticon

    I really know what you mean. I ran partly outside on Tuesday, but finished at the Y as I was getting really wet. Then inside yesterday. And now today, I had to cross train as I have shin splints!!! We need the rain here, but. . . Hopefully the weekend will be good for our long runs! emoticon

Running

I an a novice runner. I've been running 3 times a week for about 10 weeks now. I've flirted with it on and off for years with long breaks in between. So far I'm up to about 3 miles at a time, sometimes a little over. I'm planning on keeping it up this winter. I have discovered I much prefer to run outdoors than it. You don't get to see foxes running across your path indoors.

    A fox ran in your path! How COOL is that!? I was walking around our block in Louisiana just after dark and saw an owl jump from the ditch onto a low tree branch. Saw its silhouette against the moonlit sky. THAT was cool.
A month ago I saw a coyote running around a neighborhood. Never saw THAT before! But I wasn't running. I was cheating...in a car. :-)
Three miles...that's wonderful!

    Yes, Congrats! There is nothing quite like the feeling I get when I'm running at the park... someday I hope to be running over hill and dale with trail shoes but for now I'm just starting out, like you. Awesome that you've picked it back up again! emoticon emoticon

    It is nice to run outdoors. I have see a lot of nature this year when running. It makes the time pass quicker for me too. Congratulations on being up to 3+ miles.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Mine is starting off very nice. I went for a run and ending up with a much better time than I had hoped for. That was even with stopping for a minute and talking with someone I knew who was also out running.

Heat Advisories yet again

I'm used to the weather service putting out heat advisories for several days in advance but we have one out for an entire week! We're up to our 22 day of 100+ temps this summer. Our next 7 days are all forecasted to be over 100+.

I need to go get my guys moving so we can go out for a walk before it gets into the 90s this morning.

Glad to be done with that class

No the class wasn't for me it was for my 9 yr old. It was a great class about the moon held at the Cosmosphere. The reason I'm glad to be done with it it is it was an hour away from our house. It was from 1 - 4 daily. What to do in a unfamiliar town for 3 hrs when it's 100 - 105 out with heat advisories?

My 13 yr old & I didn't really feel like exploring their outdoor attractions in the heat of the day (of course it was an afternoon class). We had already explored Hutch's indoor attractions. Neither of us had any desire to tour the salt mine again. We both dislike being underground that far away from an exit that far down.

Most days we opted to go walk at the mall where we had air conditioning. After the walk, we went and took advantage of McDonald's free WIFI. Not a fan of diet coke. Diet pepsi is my preference.

Like I said before, I'm glad to be done with the class.
