Snacking it up

Tuesday, June 04, 2013

It's the little things about my gym that I appreciate- like the small plastic bags provided for your damp swimming costume or the Molton Brown body lotion in the changing room. I've only been going for three days now, but it feels good- and I've already lost a bit of weight!

Only thing is, I'm worried a bit about my snacking. For breakfast I had a banana and coffee, took my dog for a walk and then had a low-fat yoghurt (which I didn't even consider the sugar content of- later found it was 20g of sugar!). I went to the gym, had sweet potato and fish for lunch. Later as a snack I had half an avocado and green tea. I'm hoping I continue to lose weight despite some of the errors of my ways.

Very much looking forward to a dinner of salsa chicken and asparagus! This blog is helping me wait for it a little longer!

Summer, Sauntering, and Samphire

Sunday, May 26, 2013

So Summer is coming up and I'm starting a new exercise regime on the 1st of June (well that's when my gym membership starts). Today however, I went on a 5k walk with my dog. Very lovely day! I also tried the vegetable samphire for the first time today, it's sort of like salty tasting asparagus. It's pretty delicious, I'm glad to have an additional green to add to my plate. I'd highly recommend it.

Anyone else ever tried this samphire? What do your summer plans consist of? And where have you sauntered to recently?

I recently joined the american website which allows users to bet money (I think the minimum is around $25- or 18) and that gets added to a pot. The bet is to lose 4% of body fat in 28 days and at the end of the month, the pot gets divided up amongst all those who achieved this weight loss goal. So, I placed a bet of $25 and start on June 3rd. I'm hoping this can help me reach and stick to my goals. Yay for added motivation!

The Color Run 5k

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Although I haven't started training yet because I'm still finishing up exams, I signed up to do The Color Run 5k in London today! I start training June 1st and have 6 weeks from then until the Run. I've done couch to 5k plans in the past, but always sort of given up after running for 10 minutes straight, I always have to walk for about two minutes. I'd like to be able to run for 30 minutes nonstop which is why I also bought a Running Logbook recently (aka a small notebook which I shall fill up with my running stats). The Color Run should be fun though, it's supposedly the happiest 5k on the planet when you have coloured corn starch thrown on you at every kilometer. It's my first proper organized run for charity. Anyone else getting involved in this? Anyone else keep a running logbook that has helped them in the past?

I'm smiling just listening about your run. It sounds like so much fun. Start slow in your training - there's a training guide here on SP you can follow. Don't run but 3-4 times a week and do other exercise (strength) on off days. You can do this and it will be a fabulous experience. I'm 62 and did my first and only half marathon 2 years ago. It was on my bucket list. I never thought I could do it in years past but most of us can do so much more than we think. So set goals and go for it! It's within your reach. I wish you fun and many blessings along the way. emoticon

Virgin Active Gym

Saturday, May 04, 2013

So I've pretty much decided to go ahead and make the investment of going to Virgin Active Gym (beginning next month- after exams). It just seems like I would be much more motivated to go there firstly, so I wouldn't feel like I was wasting my money and secondly, their facilities are just much more impressive than any other gym I've been to so far (I've had memberships to about 6 different ones). So yeah, I'm looking forward to the spa, swimming pool, and classes- but I also know it's important to stay in a committed relationship with the treadmill. Hopefully I'll be able to lose around 20lbs in the coming summer months (3 months), might sound a bit ambitious but it's certainly possible.

I've always wanted to go to Virgin Gym, but it's a bit expensive for me at the moment. I'd be interested to read whether you think it's worth it.

Best of fortune to you. Sounds like a good gym.

20 pounds in 3 months is aggressive, but extremely reasonable. Much success to you!
