From the south beach diet people -Top 20 Antioxidant-Rich Foods.

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Trying to add more disease-fighting antioxidants into your diet? The following 20 foods contain the highest antioxidant concentration.

1. Pomegranates
2. Small red beans (dried)
3. Wild blueberries
4. Red kidney beans
5. Pinto beans
6. Blueberries (cultivated)
7. Cranberries
8. Artichokes (cooked)
9. Blackberries
10. Prunes
11. Raspberries
12. Strawberries
13. Red Delicious apples
14. Granny Smith apples
15. Pecans
16. Sweet cherries
17. Black plums
18. Gala apples
19. Black beans (dried)
20. Plums

Antioxidants are naturally occurring nutrients that help prevent heart disease, cancer, and the effects of aging. Little is actually known about how antioxidants work or what makes them function best. Scientists believe that some antioxidants are more potent than others, and their potency can be affected by cooking or digestion. For example, the antioxidants in blueberries lose their potency when cooked, while the antioxidants in tomatoes become more potent when cooked.

So use this list to find antioxidant-rich foods, but for the best nutritional outcome, eat them in a wide variety.

From what I've been reading elsewhere, something missing from the above list is the Indian gooseberry. Amla.

I didn't need this reminder!

Thursday, April 16, 2009

These past days have brought it back to me a hundred fold , why I am here!
Two deaths [heart related], one aunt and a cousin. Another cousin in intensive care after a heart attack.
The days have been hectic. All three .... weren't carrying any extra weight ... at least, not visibly! The cousin in ICU, is a chain smoker. So, please... anyone reading this, if you smoke, QUIT NOW!!

Throw in a couple of weddings, and I am out of it all! :^/
One wedding and a couple of ceremonies more in connection with the departed souls coming up in the next few days.
With DH in 'rest mode', in connection with treatment for his backache.... it is a full life!! ;)

Trying to eat healthy... and some stretches when possible.

Have had to miss out on my PDP challenge last week and so far, this week too. I do miss not being IN on that.

Will take me a few more days to be back in action.

resetting my goals today

Monday, July 28, 2008

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have to take care of myself. Nutrient wise.
Starting from tomorrow prepare at least one dish that is not too hot. DH likes it hot, salty and spicy always, and I end up eating less of everything.
Have been trying out more fruits. Now for the raw veggies, the salads..

Sadly, though I like a 'crunch' , its not the crunch of raw veggies. emoticon
Not too much into chips and such stuff these days.
Better try my hand at making veg smoothies.. Let us see how it goes.

Still loving my aerobics class. Now I just can't stand the real slow low impact class that comes around once a week when our regular instructors take a day off. That day it is utterly boring.

I use a big glass, holding three regular glasses of water for my H2O intake. That takes care of my daily eight.

Will shop for an exercise band tomorrow. Do they come in different strengths? I'll find out.
Search for an aerobics CD too. Or at least some music fit for aerobics.

Sleep wise, this last week hasn't been too good. Thought I'd got over that particular problem. Had been sleeping well since I joined the gym.
Maybe I need more action! To put myself to sleep.
Abs, here I come.

Lovely goals!! and emoticon on the fitness, nutrition, and water!

regarding the music.. there's a website you can download music for exercise for free.. i love it.. downloaded it for walking (ipod)..but you can use anything to listen to the music as long as it's mp3 compatible.

check it out:

I think there may be even some videos on there. i didn't venture in that area.

There's also another website i just heard about - iTrain: i haven't bought anything in this one.. but apparently it's a site, where the trainers for celebrities provide a good workout for your (verbally).

Glad to hear that you'd been sleeping better, even if it's not perfect yet. Exercise certainly is good for that! Look at you, "the slow day is boring", what an athlete! How wonderful! I am so proud of you :)

Good luck with the vegetables. You can slip them into almost any main dish, or serve them on the side... if raw crunchy aren't your type, what about stir-fried until they're just tender, or steamed? I am a big fan of both of those. I hope you can get lots into your diet - they're so good for you!

Still in action

Saturday, July 12, 2008

Sorry, I'm not here as often as I should be.

But then, I'm learning to do what works for me.

At long last, I've joined a nearby gym. Thank you, all my friends here who have at one time or other encouraged me emoticon THANK YOU!

I'm happy about finally taking that step.

That first aerobics class... had me nearly fainting. Thank God I did not make a fool of myself or drop out.
Each day, it has got better. My stamina has increased.

Now I've completed more than a month at the gym.

Now its time for me to read those favourite spark articles of mine once again ...

please keep writing..

Thanks Mon, I just love the early morning aerobics class emoticon except when the instructor is one person who never steps to the beat of the music. That, sort of get on my nerves ;^)

Then later on in the day I go back for the treadmill/elliptical and go around using whatever machine is available and a session with the dumbbells and some ab exercises to finish off.

Hug you right back! Take care...
Luv, Annitta.

Madhu, thank you. I did try joining in last month. But when I don't post regularly it is not fair to the team.
After I get over my mental block against the computer emoticon you will find me back.
It is great, what you are doing for the team.
The six pack in sight yet? Take care...
Luv and hugs, Annitta.

Oooh! Are you having fun?! You must be enjoying the classes if you keep going back... are they a specific kind? I have been listening to Buena Vista Social Club tonight and all I want to do is go back to my Latin Funk aerobics class now!

It's been a long time since you last blogged... I hope to see you more often!

Life has been kind to me these past few days. Or I have been kind to 'life'. ;-)
Have been doing things right.

Lost a lb. That should be inspiration enough to stick to it.

I've been where you have, so I know how it feels to pile the weight back on and start over. I'm all for it, because we deserve it. So, let's fight this battle and do it once and for all. What do you say? I'm with you.

Hi Annitta ! Welcome back. I hope you've been well. And WTG on that pound lost. Make sure that it doesn't come back. I've got my energy & lost my internet access to SP from work :( I'm trying to make a meaningful decision to go to the gym rather that access SP, but it is SO MUCH BETTER than working out :) Well, take care !
