unexpected news

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Well it's no secret that I haven't taken very good care of myself. It could have been much much worse. I found out today that I have a fatty liver. Diagnosed via abdominal ultrasound. I was oddly surprised. I shouldn't have been, but I was nonetheless. Yet another reason to start taking better care of myself.

    That's not fun, at all!

Is there any way we can help?

Wish you'd do whatever is necessary to bring your liver back to normal. Fortunately the condition is curable! Good luck.

The Sparkpeople Way

Saturday, September 15, 2012

I am finding that the best way to succeed is the Sparkpeople way. I was looking at some of my friends who have succeeded and how they live their lives. They are still sparking and they are sparking regularly. They have succeeded in making this a lifestyle. That is my hope. To make this a lifestyle. I have been very sporadic in my efforts over the years. I have done very well for awhile and then just sort of faded away. I don't want to fade away this time. Eating healthy and exercising regularly is so simple sounding, isn't it? Actually living it in this world of constant bombardment with temptation is the challenge. I accept the challenge! I may not win every battle, but in the end I plan to win the war.

It is SUCH a challenge in this day & age of a ZILLION distractions, not to lose the focus on our health & wellness. PLUS it becomes even trickier and MORE challenging once folks reach their goals...which is why keep the weight that we lose OFF is so tough and rare! There is a super SparkTeam of folks who are in this for the long haul:

At Goal & Maintenance:

R>One of our local members (from the Finger Lakes area), 4-A-HEALTHY-BMI is one of many HIGHLY successful and motivated people on this SparkTeam. There is SO much wisdom being freely shared on this Team. I've been highly recommending it to many! Even those who aren't "there" yet, but want to be prepared for "arriving!"

Great blog ! this is why I am still here. I have a log in streak at present of almost 300 days. Even although I have cut back on sparks at present I am logging fitness daily and spinning the wheel.

Eat enough!

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

I have not been eating enough. I need to plan my meals better. I was feeling pretty funky yesterday so I decided today I would eat more and I do feel better. It's not like me to not eat all my calories, but lately my schedule has made it such that I don't end up eating enough because I get busy and then I run out of day. Better planning will help for sure AND making myself stop what I'm doing to eat. If I'm really busy I don't feel hungry and don't want to stop what I'm doing. I know better. Maybe I'll set an alarm on my phone...

I know exactly what you mean! I find it strange that I can eat 4x my calories with no problem, or not eat enough when I'm focused on being healthy. It's all a balancing act, isn't it? Good idea about setting your phone alarm. Make sure to have snacks planned out for the day to help you focus. Keep up the good work!

Maybe you could carry some snacks with you, so you can eat a little in between meals. I like to eat a little something every couple of hours to keep my blood sugar from dropping too much between meals. Also my coworkers appreciate it because I don't get cranky just before lunch. emoticon

another first day...

Monday, August 20, 2012

I read on someones success story that every day has to be the first day. One day at a time. I am trying very hard not to obsess over what the future will bring and remember why I'm doing this. Yes I want to look better, but that is not all. I have the beginnings of Metabolic Syndrome. Apple shape, pre-hypertensive, pre-diabetic. A heart attack or stroke in the making. I don't want to end up like so many of the people I care for.
