Setting an example.

Saturday, July 31, 2010

I thought I write about my day today. I prepared for a poolside playdate for my children. It turned out exactly the way I planned. My son who usually loves sports is now an video game addict. I feel he is wasting his summer playing video games. I normally only let him play every other day during the school year and that after his school work is done. During the school year he plays on several different sports team. So I give in to the video. I mean his getting his exercising in and does well in school...so what can we say to him. However in the summer he is in camp all day. We keep the same rules about every other day but there no sport activity so he plays the minute he is home from camp. I hate it so I made some after camp play dates for him and it is working. He plays outside running in our yard and swimming in our pool and when they go in the play with legos and other creative games. This includes my daughter, which right now I don't worry about because video games mean very little to her. I was so happy (and both moms from both playdates were too) to see out children play like we used in the sun having fun. (Except we know to put sunscreen on!) It was great to see Logan & Sylvia enjoying an active outdoor fun day. By the way moms had to seat outside and enjoy the day as well. With plenty of healthy snack options.

I'll say you set a good example! My son had an outdoor playdate with one of his friends today, too! He needs a bath! You should see the dirt on his legs! Btw, my son is 10, and he also is a video game addict. I think it's just the generation. We never had this stuff, so we just can't relate. But I do think it's too bad! I'd rather him play outside or read a book!

Cheers to me!

Friday, July 30, 2010

Well, I just started stage 3 of the Sparkpeople lifestyle diet. It talked about remembering to reward yourself for both big and small accomplishments. And with a "no no" option on the food reward. I am thinking full body message for the almost 3 months of sticking to my exercising and tracking food routine. I really believe it is becoming a habit a actually a lifestyle habit. And for the small accomplishments. I going to talk positive about myself for the rest of the day. emoticon In fact I going to start right now: I am a dedicated wife, mother, friend, and now even a dedicated healthy lifestyle person. Cheers to me. emoticon This is my reward. emoticon Hey that felt good!

I want to breathe

Thursday, July 29, 2010

I really like a blog I read today on "coherent breathing". I enjoy the benefits of Yoga and meditation has always been a part of it. I think this coming week I will start adding breathing exercises. Even if it does not contribute to my weight loss, it would contribute to my healthier lifestyle. It will help reduce the feelings of stress and anxiety. My two middle names! Anyone want to join me? emoticon

kickboxing Round Three

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

My third week in a row taking a kickboxing class. I still s--k at it but I feel I am already better at it compared to the last two weeks. I am actually looking forward to improving in this work out. Like my Zumba class & Yoga class I look forward to working out. I did not mind the gym machines but I don't recall looking forward to them ever!! It is sort of social as well. Although I don't really talk durning class I feel a sense of support (maybe competition?) from the other students.

My kids and I took tae-kwon-do at our school for a year. We really enjoyed it, and yes I have my yellow belt and broke a board! I was pretty proud of myself AND especially so of my daughter, who doesn't have an athletic bone in her body, yet she stuck with this and got her belt and broken board, too!

Good luck!

Thought about the situation again.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Yesterday, (Monday) I went to a Yoga class. I loved it! I was also going to jump on a cardio machine for an additional 15-20mins. However, as I was at the gym a "situation" that occurred before my Yoga class started. emoticon It creepped back into my head at the end of class during the warm down. I suddenly felt disturbed. I think is was because the instructed said "Any stress you may still feel think about what it is and push it away". I guess normally this works. But yesterday at the end of class I thought about the "situation" again...apparently it left during the great Yoga class, and then came back. I felt so weird that I could not bring myself to continue with my planned routine. Instead I just went home read a book. I decided to think positive and pat myself in the back that I at least took the Yoga class. After all the "situation" happened way before class and it did not stop me. emoticon

Good for you for taking the yoga class. I have been looking for a good class in my area and I do hope to find one soon. I'm glad that you were able to give yourself a pat on the back. Have a great week...Jane emoticon emoticon

I've just started yoga, at home. I always thought I'd like it, but for whatever oddball reason, never gave it a try. I DO like it, and I'm working it into my fitness routine.

Heide69 is right - you did the yoga, and that rocks. Stay flexible - figuratively and literally emoticon - and take things as they come. You'll always have time to add in extra cardio!

Well done!
