Well, to me anyhow...

I get e-mails from Hungry girl all the time. I like the ideas and the food swaps. However today she talks about coffee and light minimum of exercises & other stuff.

It said that there are studies showing that coffee may help keep certain cancer at bay? Whether you drink it or use it topically? In fact, manufactures are producing sunscreen with caffeine? Interesting emoticon

Then another part of the article mentioned (I cut and pasted this part)
Those with an all-or-nothing mentality about exercise should take note: According to a recent study, just 15 minutes of daily activity could add three years to your lifespan. So no more excuses... Get movin', people!

Once again I N T E R E S T I N G! emoticon

As I mention on my last blog I did jump on the treadmill on Sunday. A update for Monday and Tuesday...first dinners are killing me! I am enjoying them but my efforts are in jeopardy! I did get up and take a 8 am water aerobics class at the hotel that was offered. I enjoyed it very much. Beside my own version of water aerobics in my backyard pool, I have not taken a water aerobic class in 3-4 years. I learn some but mostly was shock at what I forgot you could do. It is easy on the knees and joints in general. And yes I do feel a little sore. Tuesday I did a lot of walking a Busch Gardens. I would purposely walk as quickly as I could. I tried to intimate my son who can never stand still! I lost that battle. emoticon
Today, my body is real tired. I believe my DH is going to break it to the kids that USA Water Country will take place on Thursday instead of today. We are all tired and DH and I don't think we would enjoy it as much without a day of rest.
So, I will swim for cardio and I could go to the gym for strength training but I did bring my resistance bands so maybe I go that route today.

Update on big brother: His white blood cell counts are up and the the doctors are not please with this. They are considering surgery on Friday. This would be for his colon infection. His kidney surgery to remove the cancer has not been scheduled. My brother's spirits went down a bit again like when he first called with the cancer news. But once again he bounce back in spirits. In fact he practically shoe me off the telephone last evening so he could continue watching the Yankee game. emoticon Okay? I love you too! Whatever keeps him happy right?

Please continue the prayers

I hope you are able to get control of the dinners ... I so understand eating out causing issues.

Taking a break for a day, is not a bad thing... It will actually help all of you!

Keep up the great time during your vacation!

Sunday, August 21, 2011

We arrived at Williamsburg, VA this afternoon. After a full day. I decided to check out the fitness center. I went back around 9pm and jumped on the treadmill for 1 hour.
That one is for big brother. The news headed slightly south this morning. I high faith it will turn around for the good.

Half way

Saturday, August 20, 2011

This morning I got up early and made sure I did my full body strength training. I knew we had a long drive ahead and was not sure how I would feel about exercising when we got to the hotel. We arrived in Baltimore around 3:30pm. We went swimming. I made sure I did my laps and some twisting moves too. The hotel has a fitness gym too so I did 10 minutes on the elliptical. Total cardio 40 minutes. Breakfast, lunch and snacks went well. But dinner at Ruby Tuesday eek! I had fish, cauliflower mash potatoes and grilled zuccini. It was all good but then dessert was ordered. I shared a blondie with vanilla ice-cream with my DH and DD, son would have no part of it, (He will be thin forever, he takes after my mom). I should never had said yes to dessert. Oh well, such is life.
I can hardly wait to see what I will do with the next half of the drive to VA. emoticon

it was so worth it

Friday, August 19, 2011

My family and I leave for vacation tomorrow. Due to the fact that I had to take care of my mom this week I am still behind in laundry, packing and straighten out the home. And then today we brought her home and my older brother will take care of her. Instead of going home we choose to visit my brother in the hospital. It was wonderful seeing him. I pray all is good for him. However, we won't know for another week or so. In the meanwhile it was soooooooo worth not getting anything done. I much rather take care of mom and visit Ralph, it gave me a peace of mind.

Keeping busy.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

I have had a tough weekend with the sad news about my brother. I pray he will be okay. It is in GOD'S hands now.

I thank all my family, friends and especially sparkfriends (old and new) for the support, kind words and prayers.

I am trying to keep busy. Not that hard now that I am also taking care of my mother, (if you don't know she has dementia) kids off from camp and the usual going on around here.

So, as a diversion I continue to spark. I took a poll this morning. This was the question:

Quick Poll Results

Do you believe that an overweight person can be fit/healthy?

There were four choices. I choose Yes, if they live a healthy lifestyle.
I believe genetics is a big part too but I went with healthy lifestyle.

I believe this because about 2 years ago when I went to my doctor for annual check up. After all the testing the results came back. My good cholesterol was slight low. My doctor was very please with all this and said as always your are in fine health. Anne just watch what you eat and start exercising again. I wish I had more patients like you.

HUH? emoticon But doc...I must be 30-40lbs overweight. How can I be healthy? He said your weight will start to effect your health but it has NOT yet. You have time to get active and lose the weight. He said being overweight does not necessarily effect one's health instantly (something like that,,,this was 2 years ago can't remember exact words) and right now Anne you are in good health.
emoticon ????You said that already. emoticon

Well, since I always ate healthy, plenty of fruit and veggies, always drank water and have been somewhat active person most of my life. Yes, I stop the sports and the workouts for years. And yes along with the fruit & vegetables I ate the junk foods and yes I was (sort still am) a mindless emotional eater but I guess all the right things I did most of my life was an asset to my health. So, even with the weight gain I still had a chance to get back my life. Yep, once my orthopedic doctor gave me the okay to (I had a 80% rotator cuff tear and 30% bicep tear) for me to start to exercise again I did. On May 3rd I joined SP and started watching my nutrition and slowly working out again.

This is why I think (don't know for sure) overweight people can be healthy and fit. But than again I could be wrong. emoticon

I am going to call my brother now.

I think overweight people can live healthy and be healthy. There is a difference between overweight and obese and some of it is genetics. My belief is that health is about making right choices and balance. You can be within normal weight standards and be living an unhealthy life. I have know of very fit people collapsing and dieing, only to find out that they drank 14-16 cups of coffee a day. Fitness is about mind, body and relationships.
