Educating Personal Trainers to Serve Seniors

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Another Aspect of my Mission- to train people who are committed to increasing the health and well-being of Special Populations.

In this clip we discuss proper posture and how to recognize danger signs.

Had eight, wonderful personal trainers in Chicago for a one-day training workshop. Participants received Continuing Education Credits from The American Council on Exercise and The Aerobic and Fitness Association of America.

I am blessed.

Thank you Anne. I noticed the water bottle also.
I guess my mom was my personal trainer as she always said "Stand up straight".
If she was still here she would probably be telling me the same thing.

Someone We Could all Emulate

Monday, January 24, 2011

Jack LaLanne passed away yesterday. He was ahead of his time. I wish he had a larger mouthpiece and had motivated more people.

His obit teaches some fine lessons.

He was my guru way back 45 years ago when my children were little. We all worked out together with him while watching his TV show. I had 4 calls from my girls reminding me of that on the day he passed away!. He definitely was a big influence on our lives today.

Jack was a major pioneer in his field. Legend has it that he created the jumping jack. Don't know the truth in that, but I was a grade school kid in northern California when he swam the San Franciso Bay pulling a marina full of boats behind him.

Jack LaLanne was the best and I loved his white shepherds.

Chair Yoga - Sun Salutation

Friday, January 21, 2011

Sun Salutation is a series of postures performed in a single, graceful flow. Each movement is coordinated with the breath. Inhale as you extend or stretch, and exhale as you fold or contract.

The Sun Salutation builds strength and increases flexibility.

Included in these poses are the Mountain or Prayer pose, Swan, Forward Fold, Plank, Upward Dog, Downward Dog, and Lunge. We have limited these poses and modified them for the chair.

Give them a try, and repeat as you like. Remember to breathe in deeply through the nose, and really feel your breath give energy to your body.

A healthier lifestyle

Friday, January 07, 2011

It’s a new year, and we all have some improvements we would like to make in our lives.

Which one of those statements is true for you?

I do want a healthier lifestyle
I do not want a healthier lifestyle.

If you are looking for a healthier, better quality of life, ask yourself the following:

Am I willing to improve my habits, and thus my behavior?

Unless you can answer ‘yes’ to that question, your progress will be slow and possibly stressful.

If you can make that commitment to a better you, Spark People can provide all the resources and support you need to accomplish your goals.

Remember that what gets measured gets managed.
Write out a plan for nutrition and exercise and make daily entries- measure your activity and you progress.

Recognize what you are doing, not what you WANT to do.. These are your true habits, which will shape your behavior.

Best of health and happiness in the new year.

Stay Strong,

Anne Burnell

Great Anne. I gave the program at TOPS last night and used a SPARK article about goals.
Also showed my tropies, ribbons, etc that I had from TOPS. Everyone loved it.
