Now its time to make breakfast....I opened my frig to get my eggs and this is what I found that made the noise....Have you ever seen this? I thought it was a bit funny! I wasn't planning on baking but I guess I have to Now! emoticon

Not in the refrigerator. But last year, i was in charge of bringing the Grands to my DD's house for Christmas Eve. I had the bag riding on the passenger floor, and I guess the heater was warming them a little too much. Boom! It was really a funny thing to happen. They tasted fine when we made them, though.

Too heavy on the yeast in this batch! LOL Let Pillsbury know about this, and send the picture if you can. They'll send you coupons for replacements.

Hope they tasted OK.

There is an old internet joke about a woman who had just been grocery shopping and put the food in the back seat of the car on a warm day. On the drive home she heard a sound she thought was a gunshot and a pain in the back of her head. She reached back and felt a warm doughy substance and thought it was her brains coming out of her head and called 911.
I don't know if she baked that day.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Thanks for the laugh! This has never happend to me, but once when I was grocery shopping with my son when he was around 2 (he's 13 now), I heard a pop and turned around to see he had gotten hold of a can of Grands and managed to pop them open - and was playing with the gooey dough! Thank for making me remember this! Have a great day!

The magic of Vicks VapoRub!

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles
can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within
20 minutes you can 'taste' it.

Some of us have used Vicks VapoRub for years for everything from
chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've
never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time,
although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop
night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out
personally), put Vicks VapoRub generously on the soles of your feet,
cover with socks, and the heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5
minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100%
of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong
prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing
and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking
about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due
to the chemicals in them. This method of using Vicks VapoRub on the
soles of the feet was found to be more effective than prescribed
medicines for children at bed time. In addition it seems to have a
soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to
sleep soundly.

My DH tried it on himself when he had a very deep constant and
persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! He said that
it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped him, coughing stopped in a
few minutes. So he went from every few seconds of uncontrollable
coughing, he slept cough-free for hours every night he used it.

If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it
yourself and you will be amazed at how it works.

Yes, this works for my preschooler and has for the last couple years we've used it when he's had a cough. It also works somewhat for me when I have a bad cough.

What a great tip....I can't wait to try this TONIGHT! I have a sinus infection who's best friend is this crazy hacking cough that seems to be going away, until I lay down. Last night I fell asleep sucking on cough drops! Apparently in my sleep last night, I took another cough drop! Maybe tonight will be the first good nights sleep in over a week!

Thanks Anna. I was recently staying with German friends
and when I started coughing rather badly, they brought me
the Vicks and I was told to rub on the soles of my feet and lo
and behold the coughing stopped soon after.
I will second this advice as it really works. emoticon

Here is a quick and easy way to save your berries from molding!

Sunday, March 04, 2012

The key to preventing moldy berries...

Berries are delicious, but they're also kind of delicate. Raspberries in particular seem like they can mold before you even get them home from the market. There's nothing more tragic than paying $4 for a pint of local raspberries, only to look in the fridge the next day and find that fuzzy mold growing on their insides.

Well, with fresh berries just starting to hit farmers markets, we can tell you that how to keep them fresh! Here is a tip I'm sharing on how to prevent them from getting there in the first place:

Wash them with vinegar.

When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water. Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (though the mixture is so diluted you can't taste the vinegar,) and pop in the fridge. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft. So go forth and stock up on those pricey little gems, knowing they'll stay fresh as long as it takes you to eat them.

You're so berry welcome!

Easy cake mix...few calories!

Tuesday, February 07, 2012

Easy cakes to make 3-2-1!

These individual little cakes are amazing
and ready to eat in one minute! They are perfect
for whenever you feel like a treat without all the fat
and calories that cake can have. Genius idea!

1 box Angel Food Cake Mix

1 box Cake Mix - Any Flavor

Makes 1 serving.

In a Ziploc bag, combine the two cake mixes together
and mix well. For each individual cake serving, take
out 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix combination and

mix it with 2 Tablespoons of water in a small microwave-safe
container. Microwave on high for 1 minute, and you have
your own instant individual little cake!

KEEP remaining cake mixture stored in the Ziploc bag
and use whenever you feel like a treat! You can top
each cake with a dollop of fat free whipped topping
and/or some fresh fruit.

Helpful Tips:

This recipe is called 3, 2, 1 Cake because all you need
to remember is

3 tablespoons mix,
2 tablespoons water,
1 minute in the microwave!

TRY various flavors of cake mix like carrot, red velvet, pineapple,
lemon, orange, etc. Just remember that one of the mixes HAS
to be the angel food mix; the other is your choice.
The flavor possibilities are endless!

The best thing is, you open both cake mixes into a gallon
storage bag, one that 'zip locks' or 'self-seals', or a
container that seals tightly, shake the two cake mixes to
blend and then make the recipe. Storage of mix is simple,
put it on a shelf. No need to refrigerate, since the mix is dry.

Always remember, that one of the cake mixes MUST be
Angel Food. The other can be any flavor.
The Angel Food is the cake mix that has the eggs whites
in it.
