A&I Valentine Day blog

Friday, February 10, 2012

How do you show love to yourself?
- I eat healthy whenever possible, exercise regularly and partake in activities I enjoy. But I also have downtime and get lots of sleep when possible!

How do you show love to your family?
- I see them on a regular basis, I tell them I love them and I sent my parents and grandma a Valentine Day card!

How do you show love to your friends?
-I make an effort to see them regularly and tell them I love them! I sent 2 of my very good friends Valentine Day cards!

How can you actively improve your "loving yourself"?
-I think I need to be not so hard on myself sometimes. But other times it's the fact that I am hard on myself that keeps me going. You can excuse yourself from every bad thing you do if it's a daily thing! Otherwise you will never make progress. But if you have a bad day or week then the next day or week you start over and make it better!

How does incorporating eating right and exercise into your life show you love yourself?
-I think when you are healthy and you take the time to make your body healthy that is showing you love and respect your body.

Do you beat yourself up when you make mistakes? Or do you treat yourself lovingly?
- I don't believe in beating myself up when I make a mistake. If I did that I would never have any forward progress and I would always be focusing on mistakes. This journey is not about focusing on mistakes..it's about learning from them. A bad day is just a bad day..it doesn't shape your whole journey.

I hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day!!

emoticonblog Andrea! I love that you sent your parents and grandma a Valentine's Day card! I wish I would have thought of that. Next year I'll have to do that for my mom, sister and grandpa. You are right that we shouldn't be so critical of ourselves that we never forgive ourselves for making mistakes. Like you said, if we did, we would never move forward or have any progress. On the other hand, it's good to be a little critical of ourselves because then we would make excuses all the time when we did make mistakes. It sounds like you have the perfect balance of both.

Happy Valentine's Day! emoticon

What a great blog, I loved everything you said.

I wish I would have sent my mom a Valentines Card, she would have gotten a kick out of that. I have to remember that for next year.

Sounds like you do a great job of balancing everything. I have to work on not beating myself up over mistakes.

Happy Valentines Day!

emoticon your blog Andrea. Having gotten to know you a little over the past months, I truly believe you have a fairly good handle on balancing your act of being hard on yourself. I agree with what you said about needing to be hard on yourself someimtes, and I think you are learing the balance of that also! Keep up the good work! emoticon emoticon

Andrea, you have a great sense of how to create a balance in your life of both loving yourself and others. I agree with you that we should learn from our mistakes and move on, but keep striving to do better! You are doing an emoticon job!

It's often too easy to be overly self-critical and not treat ourselves as we treat others. You seem to have a great grasp on treating yourself as you treat your friends! That is so important on this journey.

    emoticon Love your blog!

I think you have figured out the right mix of "being hard" on yourself. It's kind of like disciplining a child - if you let them do anything they want, that isn't good for them any more than constantly criticizing and berating them. Same thing for ourselves, and it sounds like you have that mix figured out! emoticon

Thanks for sharing.

What does Valentine's Day mean to you?

Well all through middle and high school I hated Valentines Day. I never had a serious boyfriend and so it was just an annoying day to remind me that I was single.

It became less annoying as I went to college. Sometimes I would go out to eat with my parents or a group of the "single ladies." One year my best friend and I had a Saw movie marathon. That was a fun night.

Now that I'm with Ryan I like Valentines Day ( I know..duh..right?). The last couple of years we have celebrated with dinner dates and we exchange nice cards and give each other a present usually. It's nice and I figure since I spent 25 years without a valentine now I'm going to live it up because I will have one for the rest of my life! Yay!!

TIME OUT!

Tuesday, February 07, 2012

Oh my gosh! I just want to scream hold on, wait a minute, give me a day and time out! I'm sure we all feel like this sometimes. I've been bombarded with wedding stuff for the last month and February isn't looking any better. SO when life changes sometimes you have to change. But at least I know this is only until the wedding stuff is over.

Here are my new "simplify my life" rules
- My goal will not be to have 2 workouts a day. I am going to do 1 workout for 30- 45 minutes in the morning.

- I'm going to cut back on my classes at spiece to give me more nights free to go to the barn. I have had a bunch of things to do during the week now (union meetings, staff meetings, meetings with the florist) and it's taking away from my barn time. If I do a good workout in the morning I don't need to go to a class at spiece, I can go to the barn and be just fine! It's so much better for me mentally.

- I added a new reward to my getting up in the morning. I'm going to make myself "earn" turbofire 2 when it comes out by getting up 4/5 weekdays in the morning and execising. If I do this I get $10 towards turbofire 2. So in theory I will have to get up 12-16 weeks to buy it!

- I have my morning workout schedule all made with my TF/CLX for 8 weeks, then X2 for 4 weeks, then TF/CLX for 4 weeks, X2 final four weeks then final 8 weeks TF/CLX. I think it will be fun.

- My miles goal is pretty much going out the window. I'm still 50/50 about if I want to enter any 5k or 10k races this year. I really wanted to do fort for fitness 10K but the training for that takes alot of dedication and I have no clue where I will be with wedding things. So I think for now I'm putting running on the back burner also.

So as a review I"m not going to worry about night workouts, running or spiece classes. That will actually free up my time alot! With the free time I will go to the barn more so I don't feel like I'm neglecting my horse!

I will also continue my morning workouts b/c they just make my day awesome. And with that I will be going to bed earlier at night. I'm going to start getting ready around 10 or 10:30. If I want to go to the occasional step or kick class I can. They offer step at 8am on Saturday and Kick at 5:30 on Friday.

I will be going to centergy more. This past Saturday I did a centergy/run combo and it was awesome. So I'm hoping for strength training 3x/wk and cardio 3-4x/wk.

I'm not sure how long the simplifying will last. Perhaps when the wedding is more planned and my stress level returns to normal. Right now I kind of feel like my head is going to spin off but that is because I'm overwhelmed. And I am overwhelmed b/c I try to fit in 50 million things everyday! It's not working anymore. Planning a wedding is a BIG TIME CONSUMING thing! So I need to allow myself to enjoy it while it lasts. And I think as long as I don't give up my exercise..which I have no intention of doing then I will be fine!

Any suggestions/thoughts are welcome!

Breathe Andrea. You are doing the right thing to simplify your life at this point. Wedding planning is obviously going to take some time out of your life, and I know you, once that is over, you will kick butt and get back in the routine. Remember this is a very special event in your life so enjoy it! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Way to take time out for yourself.. and your horse :) Probably helps lower stress levels riding.. We are knocking things out left and right with wedding planning and moving into the house and I kept telling myself we were done.. Hopefully we can break for awhile now..

good luck

January review/February goals!

Thursday, February 02, 2012

I'm not going to spend very much time on January review. It was about the worst month exercise wise I've had since I've joined spark..seriously. I had 10 off days and barely made 1,000 minutes. I mean like at 8pm on 1/31 I went into my room and did 65 minutes of exercise. BUT I was really proud of myself b/c I could have just said screw it and stayed below 1,000. I made myself get up and do the exercise and 1,000 minutes I set out to do. I actually had my original January goal at 1,500 minutes but cut myself slack since I was sick like the first week and 1/2 of January and made it 1,000 minutes. So I tuck it into the back of my brain and move onto February!! Yay!

Goals for February:

1,500 minutes
20 miles
Getting up at least 4/5 days in the morning
Go to at least 2 centergy classes
Go to the barn at least once a week. I totally need to get back into my riding!
I would be thrilled if I would lose a couple inches. Not focusing on weight anymore! I weighed myself 2/1 and won't weigh again until 3/1.

For the wedding I want to get all the bridesmaids measured and dresses ordered, book the photographer, pick out a cake, start looking at invitations and maybe get the tux's ordered (not sure when that needs to happen).

I might think of more but for now this is enough!

Andrea, I'm so proud of you for doing those 65 minutes and getting in the 1,000 fitness minutes the last day of January. I am always glad when I push myself to make a goal. I still think you did great in January-after all, you were sick for a good many days. I know that you will be coming back full-force this month to make all your new goals happen!! Good luck to you on those wedding plans, and enjoy the process. I miss talking with you each day!

I almost got out of breath just reading your goals! From someone who went through the wedding planner as a mom just a few years ago, I can calmly suggest that no matter what happens between now and the wedding, emoticon it WILL happen and you will still like each other. emoticon

Take time to savor the "pre/before" time. It won't happen again. Use physical energy when your mental state needs a break. Breathe.

I think you have made some great goals for February and I think you did a great job in January considering you were sick. Also, considering you have a very important date coming up I know that the planning for it is taking up some of your time. I think your goals are definitely achievable! emoticon emoticon emoticon

My 2-year sparkaversary!

Sunday, January 29, 2012

Hello everyone!

I just realized a couple minutes ago that 2 years today was when I joined spark! 2nd year was a good year. I LEARNED ALOT! I didn't really have the results I wanted but sometimes it's not about that. I still accomplished quite alot:

1. Every month since my 1-year anniversary I've had at least 1,000 fitness minutes every month!

2. I did 3 5k races and my first 10K in under my goal time (I did 1:28)

3. I trained myself to get up in the morning to exercise. My star month was October where my record was 19/21. I'm still trying to beat that record.

4. I've learned and keep learning how to eat better.

5. I've learned better ways to measure my progress besides the scale.

6. I actively participated in at least one group challenge every month (I think).

7. I made more awesome spark friends and kept in touch with the already awesome spark friends!

8. I bought P90X2 and plan on doing the workouts with chalean extreme. I also was introduced to Jackie Warner and now have several of her dvd's. They are awesome and I might even like her better than Jillian. (just a little :) )

9. I started taking my vitamins again! I also sampled some meal replacement shakes until I found one I liked. I ended up with Ideal Shape. This helps when I'm eating 5 small meals.

10. Oh yeah..and I got ENGAGED on New Years!!! My wedding will be 10-27-12!!

So as I see it the first year on spark you kind of learn about everything..join some teams, set some goals and lose weight. My second year I did all my learning. I read books, I did the trivia alot, I talked with people about certain things I had questions on, I experimented with various things to figure out what works for me and I found out what does work. Now, with my third year on spark I just have to put what I have learned to use and DO IT!

Today I started back up with chalean extreme. I have missed strength training. And even though I love X2 workouts and I will continue to incorporate those into my weeks...I need chalean extreme. X2 wasn't giving me the muscle arm work that I need right now. If I wasn't getting married I wouldn't care but I have specific things I need to work on..arms, core and core and arms!

And honestly for me it's not about a weight anymore..it's all about inches. So I might hide the scale for a month..maybe even two and weigh myself at the end of March. I let it mess with my head to much. I know what I need to do to get results and I know if I am getting results..I can tell with my clothes. I thought this year I needed to record everything..like how much I weighed every week and my measurements every month. But sometimes you just have to say screw it and go get the results. That is kind of my attitude right now.

I hope everyone has a great week and I'm thinking right now..Bring On February and year #3!!

Congrats on all counts.....I like your idea of focusing on inches vice lbs...I've been leaning that way for a while.....but i still covet the low body weight!
