I hope you and your friend can work things out. Have you considered asking her to provide any food her children would need or pay a reasonable amount for it? It's unreasonable for her to expect free childcare with little advance warning and for you to provide all food and drinks.

Good for you telling her how you felt emoticon Its important to be honest with your friends, if she's a true friend she'll cover you when you need a sitter too (sounds like she needed a reminder of what a friend does).
Good luck with the puppy walk :D

I hope your friend comes around and babysits. Good luck on both your walks. I will see if I can help out for next week's walk. And remember the universe is counting all those beautiful actions. Keep on being a good friend but, don't let anyone take advantage of your good heart. Stay Curvy emoticon

My Day - So Far

Friday, March 30, 2012

Late last night my best friend asked me to please watch her two year old daughter during the day and pick up her six year old son from school and watch them til 5-ish. She is having dental surgery today and didn't think she'd be OK to supervise them on medication. I said yes, but I forgot until I was in bed after midnight that I had a doctor's appointment for Nicholas at 10 for vaccinations and a mammogram appointment at 2:45. Pick up for her little boy is at 3. I eventually got my mammogram rescheduled a bit earlier so I'll be able to get him on time.

I managed to take my son (age 5) and her daughter (almost 3 yrs old) for a walk. I did my full walk. It took longer than usual because the little one can't go as fast as I do and doesn't catch up as fast. I also gave them playtime at the cul de sac. But.. I did manage to exercise and get my mile walk in with the dog. Yesterday I did not do any exercise. The weather was too yucky for walking in my opinion and then I fell asleep right after dinner in the evening.

I mean to make up for it today and do a dance party of at least 30 minutes with a goal of 1 hr today or tonight. I'm pretty tired right now, but this is my tired time of the day so it might get better. Time to head out for my mammogram.. my very first one. Scared!!! But I took some ibuprofen in case it hurts. I promise not to pull a hissy fit like my son did when it was time for his shot. I'll keep it inside and come tell you guys how much it hurt or didn't.

--
Update - Back now. Yeah, it hurt. But it wasn't intolerable and it didn't take long for each squish (two per boobie). I am glad I took ibuprofen first. The (thankfully female) nurse/radiology tech. was very nice with a very kind bedside manner, which helped a lot. Glad it's done.

Clothing Exchange?

Thursday, March 29, 2012

We all need smaller clothing as we get smaller in size. Do we have a SparkTeam for clothing exchange where you just donate clothing for the cost of shipping to another Spark member? I think I want to start one if there isn't. I found a group called Clothing Exchange or donation, but it wasn't about sharing with each other, just about donating them elsewhere.

I need 2X ladies' bottoms and 1X or XL tops. I prefer all natural fabrics. I prefer V neck or sweetheart neckline, 3/4 length sleeves, and I like cotton jersey. I take XL in unisex size now.

I need 2X bottoms for the spring/summer and 1X bottoms for fall/winter.
I'll need an XL or L jacket.

To give away - I have 3X and 4X bottoms and 2X-3X tops and a couple 3X winter coats and 2X and 3X fall/spring coats. I have a lot of 26 and 28 pants. I also have 2x and 3x maternity pants.

I wonder if SP would let us do that? Ask one of the Coaches about it, babe. If you want I would help you run a group for something like that for sure! Sounds awesome. Great idea :)

Income and Expenses

Thursday, March 29, 2012

The results are in.. No more food stamps, but continued coverage of my son's health insurance, Healthy Kids Gold. We're very close to the limit on both and the difference is that the insurance looks at net income and the food stamps take the gross income. Well, there needs to be more income or less expense somehow, as ends are still not meeting.

We've cut all the extras of our household, such as haven't had cable for the last two years and no longer have a landline phone. DH is trying to figure out how he can set up a quiet office space here. His office is about $350/month. The only choices are really the garage, possibly basement, or getting a shed or hut to go in back and set up electricity to it. The garage has electricity, so that may work. At the moment it is full of storage stuff, though, so we have to figure out how to sell or give away all the stuff in there. I think we're going to do that. The challenge is that about 1/3 of the things are valuable and the rest are just yard sale sorts of things - and then some of the things I am sure I'll want to keep. There's a brand new microwave in there, for instance. The other things DH is trying to do is cut our cell phone bill, but not sure how he's going to do that.

I personally have more time, but I have to be available to drop off and pick up my son from school. My husband doesn't drive so he can't do it.

Ok, more of other positive stuff coming..

It is a big challenge you being the only one to drive. I used to be like you husband for many years I had a phobia about it. But, moving on You are so strong and brave. Your amazing! I think the garage is a daunting task but, just take baby steps and you will you will get through it. Try to get others to help you. Keep that great attitude of yours and there is nothing you can't conquer! emoticon emoticon

I'm with Blue when it comes to the larger portion of our "budget" and it's the one that tends to capture more than it should. We coupon clip, I buy dried beans and cook them and the family eats much less animal product meals to significantly reduce our grocery each month. I don't drive unless I have to and the only television watching we do is from Netflix streaming. We have prepaid mobile phones that we use for general necessity. We resell all children's clothing. Garage sale anything that really isn't a necessity or been used in the last year.

There's so many ways to cut down bills.

The good thing is that you at least have insurance! I think that's extremely important! I'm sorry that everything else is so tight! I get cutting everything possible though. I drive for a living and unfortunately the gas prices are killing us.
I hope that you'll be able to out weigh the positives over the negatives!

Wishing for the best for you and your family!

The insurance part is definitely good news. Losing food stamps will definitely be tough, though.

I always found that groceries were a bigger expense than I expected ... especially if I didn't carefully meal plan (including snacks) and ONLY buy the necessities. And, for me at least, categorizing "groceries" on my budget made it too easy to lump stuff in there that was unnecessary. Buying baking goods to make cookies and cakes for my kids? That wasn't necessary food, but I called it "groceries" so it was an acceptable needed expense.

Nowadays I try not to buy more than I need for one week with certain staples or foods that don't go bad for longer just in case I have a bad money week.

emoticon

Hope the garage option works out well. Probably better moving into summer as long as it can get some air flow, but I could see it getting too cold in winter.
