Coyotes made me walk longer

Friday, June 04, 2010

Hi Everyone.....

I have been trying to get up early each day and get a walk in before going to work. Today I woke up at 4am. (yeah I know, crazy) Anyway, I was up so I decided to walk. I waited until 4:45 so it was a little bit light out but the sun was not up yet. I wanted to do 3 miles and I need to leave for work at 7 so I had to hustle if I wanted a proper cool down and shower after my walk... Anyway, I was about 2 miles into my walk and I was in a zone with my ipod on and just cruising and what do I see in my path...YIKES.. Two Coyotes standing in the road just staring me down. Today was garbage day so I assume they were interested in that and not me, but I was not taking any chances. I decided to back track and go around another block (adding .75miles) to my trek. As this was happening, I was thinking that it was a bad thing but after I got home, I realized, it was good. I still got to work on time and I walked 3.75 miles instead of 3. I feel great. However, my next early morning walk will be on the treadmill.

My Journey begins

Sunday, May 30, 2010

"I need to lose weight." I have said or thought about it a million times. Now I am doing it. Two weeks ago, I started on my Spark journey and I am happy to say that it is working. Although I still don't see a difference in my size and my clothes still fit the same, I did lose a couple of pounds and I do fell better all over.

Yes, I think of food all the time! I can't get it off my mind. I think about how much time before I can eat again, what I can eat and how much I can eat. It has become a bit obsessive. People tell me that after two weeks it should be easier...I hope so.

The big challenge for me will be to stick with it. Weekends are hardest for me because I don't have a tight schedule. I find that if I am just poking around the house, I find excuses to have another snack. I figured out that if I go shopping or just outside (away from the house) to read a book, I don't even think of food.

Exercise...well, I would like to say I am an active person, but in reality, over the past few years, I started to become relatively sedentary. I now have a plan to track my steps and I challenge myself every day to see if I can beat yesterday's steps. It's actually kind of fun.

Well, I am off on my journey now. Talk to you soon.

Congratulations! I'm just starting my journey too and understand absolutely everything you are going through! You can do this! A couple of snack ideas are string cheese (yum) and soy nuts! Soy nuts have a great amount of protein in them and a single serving is a 1/4 cup...that's quite a bit actually. When I "need" to snack I just go get some and it helps curb it. Good luck!!!

Congrats on starting your journey! I'm a snacker so I try to have only healthy items around now to help. Also, I'm trying to be better about planning weekends/holiday time so I don't spend all day "grazing" emoticon and more time doing active stuff.
