Day 491... Spring for a day!

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

yes, we are in the 70's and they are talking about snow for tomorrow into thursday with an accumulation of 3 inches!!!!!! emoticon just doesn't seem right. woke up to heavy fog, thunderstorms and lightening. 50 degrees and once the sun broke through it warmed up fast

today, i worked in the garden ... set up another raised bed for my tomatoes and moved all the compost into flower beds. it's nice to get the prep work done. the planting will be so enjoyable.. more laid back with the hardest work done. gardening is such a great workout.

went to my sports med guy today. decided to try pain pills and no injections for now until the insurance gets all worked out and even still the cost to me is so high when the relief only lasts 3-4 months. took a pain pill right before i headed for a walk. not quite enough time for it to kick in and the pain on the downhill segment was excruciating, but now the pain is easing up and i feel much more relaxed.

with cold miserable weather to come tomorrow, i can get indoor organizing and cleaning done. so looking forward to my forced confinement.

today:
•steelcut oatmeal, fresh strawberries and coffee
•baked potato and 2 slices bacon
•black beans and rice and andouille sausage, glass of wine
•kemps lite icecream

only walked a mile but did heavy lifting and gardening for 2 hours

Day 490 Spring on, winter off, spring on, winter?

Monday, April 29, 2013

We had a couple of nearly 70 degree days. 50s for today and maybe more snow later this week. ARGHHH emoticon . Getting dressed to go out early this morn for a hike. Come back and do more house cleaning. Seems like it's going to be a pretty rainy week.

I feel like I have renewed vigor for the process. 3 days with the grandkids and I am tuckered but feel good. It must be that spring is in the air. Going in to see the sports med doc tomorrow about the arthritis. Not sure what I am going to do. injections or no injections?

Went up to Hibbing yesterday for my newest grandson's christening. It was great to have us all together. Hard to believe I am a grandmother of 5!

Today:
•smart balance PB and polaner jam on hawaiian bread and coffee
•kale and mixed berry smoothie
•black bean quinoa salad

hike, house cleaning and yoga

Day 480... Bizzard workout

Friday, April 19, 2013

We received 18 inches of fresh snow on April 19th!!! ... hard to believe I will be able to garden in a few weeks. Shoveling the heavy snow was a huge workout and we headed straight up hill on our snowshoe this morning in knee deep snow. I am tuckered out. The arthritis pain burns in my feet today.... feet up reclining on couch for now. Debating whether or not to go out for a speaker tonight.

Haven't eaten enough today and I made brownies... have to look through the frig and see if I can get some more protein in and a bit more fiber.

Still planning on getting on that plane and Sunday I will be in 90º Florida. For now I will enjoy the white wonderland.

Today:
•peanut butter and jam on whole wheat and coffee
•kale, banana and berry smoothie
•rasta pasta, glass of wine and brownie

snow shoveling, snowshoeing and yoga

Wow - what great pictures! I always struggle this time of year - it seems like everywhere else the flowers have bloomed and died already, and I'm out telling my sprouts "Don't do it yet! WAIT!!!". Most years the daffodils ignore me and I'm out brushing snow off their sad little heads. Florida and 90 degrees sounds pretty good right now!

Day 479.... back on track

Thursday, April 18, 2013

Feeling good today. Feels great to have the house project complete. A little touch up but I will put that off until tomorrow. Just need a break. Having my coffee while watching the snow steadily fall. Watched 3 episodes of Northern Exposure last night to make me feel better about my eternal winter and have a laugh. I live north but not that far north and yet a foot of snow is falling on April 18th.

Had my kale fruit smoothie for breakfast so as soon as I warm up again, I will get ready to go snowshoeing Looking forward to having my smoothie out on the deck in the warm sunshine soon. Yoga and zumba are on the agenda today also. I will organize my studio and pack my bag. Going to head to Naples, Florida on Sunday morning for 4 days to take a break from my eternal winter.

Today:
•kale and berry smoothie and coffee
•rasta pasta and spinach salad
•pear crisp

snowshoe, yoga, and zumba

DAy 478 Still struggling

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Using food to comfort the pain. Stopped taking oral NSAIDS and using topical NSAID. It helps. Working on putting up a new ceiling and painting the dining room. The ladder work sets of intense pain when I am done... so the project has taken a week instead of 2 days. I find myself wanting something that feels good and that is food.... chocolate to be sure. I need to get back in control and that means tracking my food here on SP.

Our housemate took Sitka for his walk this morning that saved on my feet. We should be able to finish this project today. Yesterday's snowshoe kicked my butt because snow was deep. Another 10 inches of snow coming over the next 2 days. Will be snowshoeing the rest of the week and then I am getting on a plane and going to Naples, Florida this Sunday come hell or high water. It's my last shot before my folks close up their place down there for the summer.

today:
•coffee and french toast
•kale and berrie smoothie
•spinach and mixed veggie salad and sweet potato

yoga, ceiling work and maybe a short snowshoe or if in pain along epsom salt soak.
