Day 4 post op

Friday, March 16, 2012

Today was rough. I had a job interview on crutches, then I went to physical therapy. My friend drove me to the interview and it was just draining talking to her in the car to and from my appointments. In total I was out a total of 6 hours today and it was painful. I'm really looking forward to staying home tomorrow. I will do my exercises of course but at least I don't have to go anywhere.

I wonder if going in on crutches helps or hurts a job interview...I never thought of that before. I bet it helps...I'd be like, "Wow, you are hard-core and dedicated to come here in crutches!!!"

Good - no great - day!

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Tough day today but very rewarding. Day3 post-op, went to my doctor for a followup exam. I still had some major fluid around the knee so the doc drained to take some of the pressure off. Then we did some exercises, straightening and flexing my leg, it was tough, painful in fact but felt good after. Then after the orthopedist I went to the physical therapist for the first appointment. That was also really painful but gradually felt better toward the end of the session. The best was the last 15 minutes where they electrical stim and iced my knee. It felt sooooo good. I'm still in some pain but then when it feels good, it feels really good. I got home, was exhausted and just wanted to left alone on the couch to pass out and nap for bit. That's when the phone started ringing off the hook- annoying. I appreciate all my friends and boyfriend being concerned and wanting to check up on me, but I just needed a break. No talking, just peace and quiet. So I was a bit cranky. BF is such a trooper, he also had knee surgery many years ago so he understood right away. He said turn off the phone, nap and we'll talk later. So now it's me time. And I feel perfectly content with my iPad sitting quietly on the couch. I did really good today worked hard on my exercises and gave it my best. Now I finally have a schedule to follow and I feel really confident that I will follow through on my PT. phew! What a day!

Yes! Great attitude about the necessity of getting the motion back despite the pain right now!!

Draw the shades now and rest up...your Friends will understand.

Sorry to hear that it was painful, but glad it felt better at the end/afterwards. You seem well on the road to recovery!

Self sufficiency

Getting better little by little. Yesterday I could not lift my leg on my own, now I'm slowly starting to get muscle strength back. The pain killers were really helpful for taking the edge off. I got a ton of phone calls today. My coworkers sent me cookies and fruit. I have great friends and coworkers.

One way to get a good workout

Monday, March 12, 2012

Well I'm home from the hospital. I did amazingly well on the crutches, but it sure takes a lot of effort. I had to go up 4 flights on crutches. I'm exhausted!

Surgery

Sunday, March 11, 2012

Well tomorrow is the big day. Surgery to repair my torn meniscus and ACL. I think the worst part of it will be getting home from the hospital. I live in a 4th floor apartment with no elevator. Plus we have a loft bedroom. So they told me I will have to go up the stairs on my butt. I'm going to sleep on the couch in the living room until I can get up the stairs to the bedroom. The couch is not the most comfortable but I guess it's better than being stuck up in the bed and not being able to get down the stairs. Yesterday we went grocery shopping and stocked up on food so I have everything I need to get me by.
