Jobs and the economy

Friday, March 09, 2012

Well it appears the economy is getting better, because I'm getting interviews left and right. There are jobs out there for me but they all seem to be paying lower. We were discussing this at work today... The economy is getting better, companies are hiring again but the salaries are lower than they were and there are still so many unemployed people that the companies won't go up even if they like you. I will prob hang on to my existing job for a bit because at least I have it and you never know what you're going to get elsewhere, esp if the pay isn't any better.

Glad you're getting interviews, maybe it's just practice for the "right" position that's headed your way!

Everyone I know who is looking for a job is finding out the companies aren't offering much of a living wage. It is a real disappointment! Good thing you have a job!!

Spreading the Spark

I've been having Chris Downie moments... Some cute things have happened to me recently. My boss is trying to loose weight for a special event and came to me asking about "that website you do". Then my other coworker who sits directly next to me has been making an effort to loose and eat healthier. She hinted that I inspired her to do it. And thirdly I was working at the receptionist desk the other day. Since it's mostly private and unseen by everyone except when you first come in I decided to do some light strength training exercises. One of the other ladies came over to say hello and then later a second so the three of us started exercising together. They were getting a kick out of doing exercises I was doing. So we agreed that everyday at 4 we would meet in the reception area to do 10 minutes of some basic exercises: calf rocking, leg adduction, leg abduction, squats, leg lifts, stranding hamstring curls, wall push ups and anything that you can generally do in an office without weights. I was there a 4 today but one of the ladies was out and the other wasn't feeling up to it, so the plan didn't work out today. But I plan to stick to this everyday at 4 plan for the days I'm in the office whether they go along with it or not. We've had a lot of negativity in the office lately so it seems like a great plan to turn lemons into lemonade.

March Madness

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

I can't wait to get back to running. Sitting around waiting for my surgery is really annoying, but on a positive note I've found some strength exercises I can do: leg adduction, abduction, extensions, leg curls, leg raises, calf rocking and of course any abs and arms are safe for me to do. I'm not really into strength training, I rather run 5 miles, but at least it's something.

Definitely! And way to be proactive and doing something. When you can run again, you're going to be even stronger!

I'm a little freaked out by my upcoming surgery. Think I'm reading too many negative reviews on the Internet. A lot of folks saying their knee was never the same or had pain. Has anyone had a successful ACL surgery?
I did find a few interesting medical websites. My trainer says I should stop reading stuff on the Internet because I know everything I need to know about the surgery already and reading any more will just freak me out.

Relax and listen to your trainer and doctor. It's a very common surgery with a high success rate. Of course any surgery has potential risks. Consider that people who had bad experiences are more likely to write. Successful people don't write because they are too busy moving on their finally pain free knee. My husband had ACL surgery four years ago and he's fine. I know many other people who also had that surgery. Not one regrets their decision. Good luck!

I am so lazy this weekend. I've been sitting around all weekend doing nothing. I don't feel like doing anything, and my poor bf is getting cabin fever. Sometimes I just feel like doing nothing and now that I can't exercise the way I want to do I just feel like being lazy.
