2010: A Health Odyssey!

November hasnít been the stellar month that Iíd planned on. I just did a count-down-check and weíre heading to Barbados in 86 days! My hope to reach 170 by then is dashed.



After reading the 10% solution, Iím resigned to re-think things. Iíve set my sights on 180 pounds and once I reach that, Iíll aim for the next 10%. Iím not going to set a goal date, either. Iíd LOVE to reach my goal in 2010, but as long as I keep getting healthier, then thatís the main thing. As far as my holiday goes, Iíll lose what weight I can by then and treat myself to a new, size-appropriate holiday wardrobe!



Iíve set up a new team and named it ď2010: A Health OdysseyĒ Itís a public team and all are welcome. (special thanks to Judy and Heather who have joined me already!)



Each month, Iíll post a focus. The focuses will be general (howís THAT for an oxymoron?), such as ďsurviving the holidaysĒ, or positive thinking. Anyone with insight to the focus of the month is encouraged to share it.

Each week Iíll post a challenge. The challenges are non competitive, and only meant to challenge our own abilities.

Iím not going to wait until January 1st to put things into motion. Weeks of bad holiday habits are hard to break-off cold turkey. Iíd rather form good habits now and not have to make any Ďresolutionsí that shock my body and are destined for failure!



2010 is still 47 (or so) days away, but the Odyssey starts now! Whoís with me?

November Week Two:

November Week Two:

November seems to be slowing down the sap in this big old tree! I need to kick the fitness up a notch and keep a closer eye on my eating. Last week was a calorie watching week. I started off doing very well, but got lax again come the weekend (go figure).

This week:
-Stay well rested. This time of year can start to get so stressful. A lack of sleep is a recipe for disaster. The Meadow will lead the way...

-Counting Calories (continued)
-No Ice cream (I've proven that I can not honestly measure myself out 1/2 cup)
-Meal-wise, I might try for a few more vegetarian days. I did so well in my vegetarian week that I'd be silly not to give that a try again!
-I need to work out some gym time! It's strength time at Hogwarts, so I'm going to slip into the Chamber of Secrets and pump some iron!

    Loved your blog! I try to have one treat a week, and once it was a single serving, 4 oz, of Hšagen-Dazs Coffee Ice Cream. It was great. Quite a change from the pint sized single servings I used to get! I have vampire kitties too!

    Love your goals and I KNOW you can do this!!!! Love the kitteh pics too....hehehehe!! I know I get lax on the weekends too....especially when it's a weekend when Brian doesn't work (every other weekend). Ugh. Just hang in there and I hear ya on the ice cream!!! Have you tried the no sugar low calorie kind? It's not as good but you can have a wee bit more....or maybe ice cream bars that are already a specific size and you don't have to measure yourself!!! Whatever you do sweets....I know you'll do great!!!!

    i remember when i lost 56 pounds in 6 weeks once. i measured every tiny thing..ice cream was one. i was allowed half a cup. i said to the leader..can i pack it? she said you can sit on it i dont care as long as it fits in that 1/2 cup with no hangover you can eat it. amazing how much ice cream you can pack into half a cup...heck theres alot of air in ice cream! I still lost ...and about 3 pounds a week!
but i know how hard it is and i thinkyou are doing fantastic!!

November Week One

This week, my goals are to:

-get to the gym/pool at least 3 times.

to help get me there, I'm going to try to get to bed earlier and push myself out of bed early on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

If I'm able to get to the gym AFTER work as well on some days, then that's even better...

-stay in my calorie range (1200 - 1550).

to help get me there, I'm going to stock up on fruits and veggies and limit my low-fibre "starch" servings. More meals of protein and veggies.

I lost 1/2 a pound this week!

I'm happy, but I realise that I need to re-evaluate my goals. I also must make a few more changes to my lifestyle!

I've picked a few key dates that I can use as milestones:

January 1, 2010
losing at a rate of 1/2 pound/week=198.5
losing at a rate of 1 pound/week=194
losing at a rate of 1 1/2 pound/week=189
losing at a rate of 2 pound/week=184

February 14, 2010 (St. Valentine's Day AND our Barbados holiday!)
losing at a rate of 1/2 pound/week=195.5
losing at a rate of 1 pound/week=188
losing at a rate of 1 1/2 pound/week=180
losing at a rate of 2 pound/week=172

June 11, 2010 (Somewhere around the Manitoba Marathon date: participant? spectator?)
losing at a rate of 1/2 pound/week=187
losing at a rate of 1 pound/week=171
losing at a rate of 1 1/2 pound/week=154.5
losing at a rate of 2 pound/week=150 (maintaining)

October 15, 2010 (my 40th birthday)
losing at a rate of 1/2 pound/week=178
losing at a rate of 1 pound/week=153
losing at a rate of 1 1/2 pound/week=150 (maintaining)
losing at a rate of 2 pound/week=150 (maintaining)

Losing at a rate of 1/2 pound/week I won't reach my goal weight until November 2011...

So... Time to cut back the calories a bit more. I could probably do without dessert EVERY night. I'm going to go through my excel food sheets and see where I can make some cuts/modifications

and

Time to send the exercise up another notch!


I have no illusions that I will (or should) lose 2 pounds a week EVERY week, but I'd like to aim for an average of 1.5 pounds/week.

To end on a positive note, I've discovered that, even if I only manage to lose 1/2 pound /week, I SHOULD be in "One"derland by the New Year!

    Some great thought-out plans!
I agree that 2 pounds every week is not realistic, but it is certainly do-able once in a while. But 1 or 1.5 a week is achievable and I wish you all the best!

Monday-lower body/cardio
Tuesday-Aquasize
Wednesday-lower body/cardio
Thursday-upper body/cardio
Friday-lower body/cardio

Saturday-cardio/rest
Sunday-rest/cardio

This is the rough plan for my fitness regime. I'm easing into it so I' don't get frustrated and/or injured...My husband, my mum and my dad are all work-out buddies, so I SHOULD have enough RL support!

Barbados is only four months away and I am determined to be healthier by then so I can make the most of each day!!
