Whey Protein smoothies as a meal replacement yes or no?

Saturday, October 13, 2012

I am wanting to change up my breakfast and yet get the protein i need after my morning work out. I have already been coming up with some smoothie ideas. Is this a good idea or not? I have heard that whey protein will jump start your weight loss and metabolism. I would like to use water instead of milk in my recipe to save on calories. Add some frozen fruit, water, powder whey protein and ice and blend away, this way i get some water, fruit and protein in. Any input and recipes would be greatly appreciated.

I love protein smoothies for breakfast. I've never used whey powder though. My favorite is called Banana Split Power Smoothie. 1/2 Cup Frozen Unsweetened Strawberies, 3/4 Cup fresh fozen pineapple, a small banana, 1/2 cup cottage cheese & 1/2 Cup Plain Fat Free yogurt (the actual recipe calls for fat free milk or soy milk but the yogurt makes it thicker and I think it just tastes better). Makes about 2 cups for 256 calories. Comes out really thick & creamy with 20 grams of protein!

    scoop of whey powder
1/2 banana
6 frozen strawberries
few frozen blueberries
tsp flaxseed
cup of diet fruit juice

toss in any supplements you might take -- omegas - vitamin E - etc

you can find several recipes on www.doctoroz.com really delicious and lots of variations

Having a fruit smoothie...with a protein supplement added...is good start to the day. It needs to be only a few times a week though...use other fruit, vegetables and protein combination on the other days.
I add a little greens to my smoothies...in a Magic bullet...like spinach, which blends well without affecting the taste. A quick smoothie for me is too add:
3 frozen strawberries
2-3 slices of frozen peaches
2-3 frozen cherries
1/2 - 3/4 cup of spinach leaves (loosely)
1/2 cup coconut juice
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (I am lactose sensitive)
1 tsp. lemon zest
juice from 1/2 lemon
Blend and enjoy...

Artificial Sweeteners VS real Sugar whats the difference?

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

Ok, before all the doctors would say use artificial sweeteners, stay away from sugar, now they are going back to saying use sugar leave the artificial sweeteners alone. I have heard that they make you crave more sugar. Is this true? wouldn't regular sugar make you crave sweets too? I am a bit confused. What do you use? I do use splenda/sugar blend in my cool aid to help me get my water in everyday, and I do use the mocha flavored splenda in my coffee every morning as it saves me from stopping at McDonalds and buying a small mocha every morning, so it really saves me money and calories LOL Help me to understand the difference.

You sound like me with the diet soda bit. Now we are not supposed to drink diet soda, it's like the sugar thing, it can make you crave sweets. I cannot imagine going back to things with sugar in them. I don't think a teaspoon in coffee or tea would kill us, but if we ate things like regular yogurt, the points value would be off the charts.

I am an advocate of eating real foods. Eggs are great! Butter is great! Sugar is great! All in moderation and in proper portion sizes! Your body knows how to digest real foods. Your body doesn't do well on chemicals. I've heard that when you eat margerine or fake cheeses, according to your body, you might as well be eating plastic, it doesn't go through the liver very well. I am eating real foods and losing weight, very slowly but still losing, I'm even still drinking whole milk! You have to make the decision as to what is right for you and I agree there is a lot of conflicting information out there, you can find articles to back up whatever side that you are on.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. There are cases where artificial sweeteners (and sugar) can trigger cravings. But it's not true for everyone and it's not true for me in particular. I actually prefer artificial over the real thing from a taste standpoint too. Some people think it tastes "chemically".

And from a health perspective, you might be interested in my blog post from today.

I know that sugar has more calories. I think that the theory that Splenda makes you crave sugar may not hold water, but again it is probably one of those new theories. I am confused about whether eggs are good or bad, too! Maybe we should stop reading and just do what feels right! Hugs!

Going to Attempt Weight Watchers again

Thursday, September 15, 2011

It has been 10 years since I have done weight watchers, it was pre bad back diagnosis when I was on it and I was in a lot of pain and could not exercise the way i wanted to or needed too. I am really hoping it will take me to my goal, I seemed to have plateaued out after losing 20 lbs. Anyone else doing the new points, I did the points program then, what is the difference between that points program and this one?

Hi I am on the new program too. I do WW online. Is that how you are doing it or are you attending meetings. I have lost 15 lbs since july . I had lost 18 but gained 3 last week. I just quit smoking so I have to get all that under control. I have been snacking all day. I am getting back on track tomorrow. Let's keep in touch. Hope you don't mind, I have added you as a friend.

Unlimited vegetables and fruit. Personally, I think that could be dangerous. They do eliminate a few veggies and fruits but for things such as apples, I know I can pack in a 1,000 caloriesmin a day easily. I am a lifelong member. I haven't gone in 20 years but that is what I understand to be the newest changes.

Finally Going to dayshift after 20 years of night shift

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Ok, this is going to be an adjustment for me, but one I am looking forward to. I will start my dayshift position next wednesday. I probably won't be able to transition over until it happens. I am going to try though. I am going to have to learn how and when to eat and sleep all over again. going to be weird. But I am hoping it will help get my metabolism going in the right direction, other than the stuck direction. LOL

Whew! I only spent 6 years on nights- the transition was rough but I am happier ( and so is my mind/body). It took about 6 mos for me to get with it so don't get frustrated. It'll work out.

Zumba for Wii finally advancing yayyyy

Saturday, July 09, 2011

I was right, make sure you are doing the zumba party and not the zumba workout, they are the same workouts but the zumba party keeps track of what you have done and unlocks the other modes and music. Just thought i would share, it only took me 6 months to figure this out. LOL oh well starting over wont kill me, i haven't been able to prove there has been a death by zumba yet LOL
