This last week was a success. Sure I had my slip ups here and there but for the most part I did ok. I need to break a lot of bad habits that I've accumulated throughout my lifetime. For example I need to constantly remind myself that just because someone brings cookies to class doesn't mean I need to eat them. Or if I walk into the lounge and there is leftover pizza from a lunch-and-learn, I should be satisfied with the home packed lunch I just ate and not partake of an unhealthy lunch #2. For some reason when I see free food I think 'me' food.

I'm looking forward to another successful week.

I can't believe the last time i made a blog entry was in 2010! So much has happened since then. Although physically I've had some setbacks, some wonderful things have happened in my life, most importantly the birth of our second son. We are still in KY and I'm slowly getting closer to being done with school. The days feel long but the weeks are flying by.

Ever since I hurt my back in June of 2010, I've used it an excuse for gaining all the weight back that I fought so hard to lose. True, it has greatly limited some of my physical pursuits and even daily activities, but I cannot blame an injury for my weight gain. The injury didn't force me to overeat and make poor daily dietary decisions.

In the last few months I've been starting to get discouraged with what's become of me. I'm not as active as I was, my clothes are fitting tighter, and I'm starting to feel hypocritical exhorting my patients to take better care of themselves when I clearly am not. I've decided to go back to what I know has worked for me in the past. I will log my food and make regular blog entries. Keeping track of what I eat is critical for me and although I'm usually the only one reading my blog entries, just the act of putting words down seems to help me.

So here I am, back at the beginning. Vacation is over, and it's time to get back to work.

I was on SP and noticed that my last blog was in April! So much has happened since then. I don't want to go into too much detail so I'm going to sum up the last 7 months in a few lines.

Was doing really well with eating and exercise and got down to 205 by June (From 242). Was feeling amazing, did a sprint triathlon and was up to running 4-5 miles steady. Clothes were getting to big and things were going great until...I inured my lower back and things went downhill. It's been 4-5 months since my injury and I'm still not 100%. I'm now at 219 and wishing I was back losing not gaining. I'm feeling motivated again but school has been kicking my trash recently and I've struggled with consistency. Wish me luck.

But on a more positive note, it is Thanksgiving today! True that I am Canadian, and our Thanksgiving was last month, but since we are living in KY currently today is the big day. I'm sometimes tempted to whine and complain about thing but really, I have so much to be thankful for. Here are a few of them (In no particular order)


I am grateful for Nutella. This stuff is amazing, and a contributing factor to why I am the way I am.

I'm not a fan of the show (I'm more of a Seinfeld guy) but I am grateful for wonderful friends.

Although this is only a temporary home for us until I graduate, I love this place and the people who live here.

The wonderful families my wife and I came from.

I am grateful for the example of Jesus Christ.

Although my wife wishes I looked more like this guy, I'm grateful to have a fully functional body, even if its not in its ideal form....yet.

I'm grateful for my trusty bike which I've had since I was 15, that gets me and my books to school and back rain or shine. (In case you were wondering, this isn't me.)

I am grateful for all things Puerto Rican. I lived there for two yrs as a missionary and love that place.

Im grateful for these wonderful countries.

I am so grateful for these two. They are the greatest joys in my life.

    Blogging is a good start. So is gratitude and you've got that covered! Keep biking and watching what you eat. Those pounds will come back off. Remember that exercise is proven to help with stress. Eating too much of the wrong things is proven to make you fat.

    Sorry to hear about your injury. Yep, these setbacks happen, but then again I truly believe they are here to have us learn about ourselves and how best to listen to our spirit and what it wants. What did you learn about your training or what your spirit wanted? Did you push too hard? I'd love to hear what your thoughts are on this.

My training is coming on a lot better now. I also haven't blogged for awhile. I was holding steady and am now developing a lifestyle that is more active so the weight is shifting again. I love that. At the end of the day, it is truly about moving your body and that is the easy way to look at things.

Sending a big hug out to you and your family. I know you will come back- not bigger and better- but lighter and better!

I'm back. Made some big purchases this week.

So I feel like I have been missing in action over the last week or so but I'm back. April is a pretty busy month for me with school and my sparkpeople activity has been limited to tracking food and excercise. Sorry if I haven't been able to keep up with everyone's blogs.

This week I made some pretty significant purchases. I will share.

1. Watch. I have some nice watches but I didn't have a straight up athletic watch for running with laps and chrono. So I got this:

(This isn't the exact same watch but pretty close. Retails for $50 but I got it new off ebay for $17 including shipping)

2. Book. I'm planning on doing some sprint triathlons this summer so I thought this would be a good start.

3. Bike. Anyone following my blog knew that when I got to 200lbs I would be rewarding myself with a road bike. Well I jumped the gun. I came across a bike that was a perfect fit for me on craigslist at a price I couldn't pass up. It's a sweet ride and I'm loving it. Here is a pic.

Although I haven't eaten well the last few days I have made some big strides recently. I hit the 30lb off mark this last week and am getting lots of compliments on looking healthier.

Starting tomorrow I am going to stay within my caloric range for 10 days in a row. I always do well on weekdays and struggle on the weekends. But not next weekend.

    That is so funny..
My watch quit working ..after changing the battery. It still wouldnt budge.
So I purchased a new watch today..almost identical
to yours.

Funny how most of the thing I purchase is fitness related.

    Love the goodies! You deserve them! And I have to say, you stayed on a "well-balanced self-congratulatory gift-giving-streak", i.e.: 1 present for every 10 pounds! Fair enough, or rather strict, I'd say. emoticon

It's been so hard for to loose these pounds, emoticon that at least I get to celebrate the success of my SF...

But I'm kind of liking the "well-balanced....", so I'll have to catch up!

I love it! When I saw your blog title I was concerned about your spending. Like, he's not eating so maybe he's spending money. Guys can do retail therapy, too - but it still doesn't work as therapy. But hey, you're a great shopper! Love eBay and craigslist, way to go!

Family Pics

I'm not lost, I've just been busy with school and family in town over the last 10 days.

When my Mother-in-Law got off the plane a week ago one of the first things she said was "How much weight have you lost?" She didn't know that I was losing weight so it was great to have her notice. Also some of my classmates have been asking if I've been losing weight, which I am finding very rewarding and motivating. I really want to keep this up.

We took family pics yesterday. My Sister-in-Law loves taking pics so we really appreciated her getting some shots of us. She still wants to edit them but I'm pretty happy. Here are a few. More to come.

    What great pictures! You have a beautiful family! My father-in-law was a dentist and we were so spoiled with free dental work for years as well at the royal treatment in his office, but I was happy for him when he retired. He'd more than earned it. Congrats on your weight loss!
