I'm a Couch to 5K graduate!

Friday, June 28, 2013

It's been a while since my last post! I had to stop running for three weeks because of a groin injury. It really sucked! But I'm back and I was able to pick back up right where I stopped.

Last night I finished week 9 day 3 of the C25K program. I did it! I'm a graduate! I do think they should call it "Couch to running for 30 minutes straight" though, because I'm not running a 5K in 30 minutes! I'm really slow, it'll take me around 40 minutes to run it. I will be starting the 5k to 10k app next week and it has tempo runs and fast runs so I'm hoping it'll help with my speed.

Weight-wise, I'm now 168.6 lbs, so I've lost 25 lbs! Crazy! Five more pounds and I won't be obese anymore, woohoo!

Congrats. Keep it up. the intervals will definitely help with speed. You are doing great.

That's awesome! I just started today. It's tough to get up and get moving.

A huge congratulations on completing C25K! Isn't it an amazing feeling? I'm a poky runner, too -- my 5K is just under 40 minutes -- so once I could complete the 30 minutes I just kept going until I hit 5K (I used a tracking app on my phone to get to 3.1 miles).

Congratulations on your weight loss, too. You're inspiring =)

Finally done with W6D2!!!

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

I finally did W6D2 last night!

I actually did it last week but I had trouble with my app and I couldn't track the workout correctly. I did it again two days after but it was hot and humid out and I had the stroller and I just wasn't able to finish.

After that last run, I had a bit of pain in my right knee and thigh muscle, so I decided to take a few days off. Didn't want to risk an injury! I felt better on Monday, but it was raining so I waited until Tuesday. It was hard going back after many days off but I did it!

I can't believe I'm now done with the intervals! I'll be running 22 minutes tomorrow, then 25 next week, 28 the week after and 30 for the last week! Scary! Then I'll need to wrk on getting to 5K and then on getting a bit faster. I'd really like to run it under 40 minutes in September but I don't know if it will be possible...

Weigh-in was yesterday and I was 173.6. That's a 0,6 lbs loss, for a total of 19,8 lbs. AAAAAARGH! Why can't I get to 20 pounds already!!!! So close...

I'm happy about the loss, considering I had three different meals out with friends or family. I made really good choices, but it's still not easy to lose when eating out.

But I'm now considering switching my official weigh-in day from Mondays to Tuesdays. I weighed myself this morning and I was 172.6! A whole pound less than yesterday, and that was after having breakfast! This is the second week in a row that it happens.

But I'm not really going to switch weigh-in days. The important thing is that I'm losing and the scale will eventually show it, even on a Monday :)

Body, we need to talk

Monday, May 06, 2013

Weigh-in this morning was a disappointing 0.2 gain. It's really not the end of the world, except that I've been losing and gaining the same pound for the past month. I'm so close to the 20 pound loss mark too, it makes it even more discouraging!

Now I know why I gained this week. We ate out three times this weekend (I almost never eat out nowadays). I was careful and tried to choose well, but still, it was hard to count points... The other weeks though, I was doing pretty good but still no loss...

And this week... *sigh* I don't have much of a social life since we can rarely get a babysitter, but this week I have three meals out planned! Three! And I do want to go because I so rarely get to see my friends. One of them I haven't seen in over five years since she moved to France. I'm going to make the best possible choices at the restaurants, but I can't expect miracles...

To leave on a positive note, I'm gonna say that I started week 6 of Couch to 5K yesterday. It went pretty well. The intervals are much easier than the 20 minute run of week 5. But I'll be running 22 minutes later this week!

That's awesome with your Couch to 5K! Just push yourself this week. My workouts are more intense when I know I'll be eating out. I also like to have a green smoothie for breakfast and lunch if I'm eating out at dinner time. It helps me know I got my good stuff in and sometimes it curbs my appetite so I don't eat too much. Just remember that the portion sizes in restaurants are double (or more) what they should be. Take 1/2 your meal and put it in a doggy bag so you won't be tempted to eat it. Don't stuff yourself. Just eat until you're full. Good luck this week! emoticon

I ran for 20 minutes

Saturday, May 04, 2013

It feels weird to write it: I ran for 20 minutes straight. When I started C25K, I could hardly run more than 1 minute without feeling like I was going to die. And now here I am, running for 20 minutes.

The only disappointment is my lack of speed. I hate being so slow. When I signed up for my 5K in September, my goal was to run it under 40 minutes. I thought it was a pretty easy goal. But now I'm not sure I'll be able to reach it. I'm not even sure I'll be able to run it under 45 minutes. I try to run faster but my legs just won't do it. I guess I'll have to really work on this this summer.

Remember it is taking your bones a year or more to get used to running. Congrats on your improvement. Another year and you will be amazed at your progress.
