Trying to Get Back on Track

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

I have been really busy at work and find myself falling back to my old habit. Generally, I tend to get so absorbed in work that I neglect other areas of my life. The first to go is always fitness and I spend many hours sitting. However, I have finished my all so important work project and decided I wasn't going to let myself go and fall into a long period of inactivity. I was back on my bowflex today and did a 20 minute workout. I have stuck to my diet (mostly) so, hopefully, the next couple of weeks will show some results...fingers crossed.

Still Struggling

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Just had a tremendously busy week at work. I do a lot of writing on the computer for work, and just became chair logged all week. I got to the point where I actually had a soreness from sitting so long. So today I broke away and did my bowflex biceps and triceps routine and did a lot of extra houswork to get myself moving. I see the light at the end of my horrible work week and hope that now that the weekend looms, I'll be able to pay more attention to my fitness and weight loss goals.

I stuck to my diet all week, but i think that at my age, there is no room for sacrificing any part of my fitness routine. If I don't exercise, I simply don't see any improvement in my weight or body image. It's really hard road in my 50s and I'm still trying to get used to the idea that weight won't just fly off just because I've become serious about it. It is just SO much harder at this point in my life.

Anyhow, will keep on keeping on, because even if it doesn't get a lot better, at least I can keep from getting a lot worse.

Is there any way you can take a break every now and then so you're not sitting all day? I work as a secretary but I try to get up and move every so often. It's hard sometimes when I get really busy or engrossed in what I'm doing. Good luck!

Superbowl Sunday!!

Sunday, February 06, 2011

I was really bummed out yesterday because I had an emergency project at work that had me bound to my computer most of the day. I didn't log in to Spark people, didn't participate in my challenge entries, didn't log my food intake, nor exercise. Today, I was equally as busy, but I decided I just wasn't going to go off track 2 days in a row. It's just too easy to give everything to work and leave little left behind for me. So I logged in, logged my menu for the day, walked the 20 feet to my bowflex and did a full lower body and abs workout. Now I'm back at my computer but I have the Superbowl on at the same time. I am really inspired by the dedication and heart that these two winning teams have, and it just didn't seem right, if I didn't take some time out to dedicate to my fitness because it really is so important to me.

Happy Superbowl Sunday to all you Spark People!! emoticon

Still Streaking :-)

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

Had another great, motivated day today and stayed on track with my diet and water intake. Finally got to try my salsa workout dvd and it was really great...all alone at home and dancing around to rhythmic salsa like a dancing fool. My companion was travelling today, so made dinner alone and really enjoyed being free to cook whatever I wanted. Made some mediterranean rice with mint, feta, tomatoes, and lima beans, and it was delicious. So I'm feeling really relaxed and happy since, with this blog, I have achieved all 9 daily points for February challenge.

Really makes you feel good when you stay on track. DVD's are a great way to get your exercise. Thanks for the note. Last couple days have been too cold to get out and walk. We had sleet last night and even my hummingbird had sleet on it's tail feathers at the feeder this morning.

The Spark

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

I received my copy of The Spark in the mail yesterday and finally got a chance late in the evening to begin reading. I really enjoyed Chris Downie's history, and hadn't really had the chance before to stop and think about why Sparkpeople is working so well for me. It's the sense of community and sharing the ups and downs of what we are all trying to accomplish.

For me, last week was what Chris calls a Spark Streak that started with a high level of motivation. I was concerned that I would not be able to keep it up and tried to think of ways to make myself believe that this time would be different. But then I picked up the book and finally realized why it really is different. I am so motivated to continue my streak right on through the achievement of my goals and beyond. This program definitely has promising consequences for every part of my life, and I look forward to the growing confidence that my little weight loss successes will bring to all parts of my life.

Spark on!!
