Button the hamster

Thursday, September 01, 2011

I know this may not be "Sparkling" however I have no where else to air this grievance...

Button is my "working hamster". I have had her for almost 3 years - which is a long life for a Robo- She has been slowing down over the past few months, and today when I left the office she seemed to have little left in her. I think I will be having a very small funeral this weekend.

She has been a good desk buddy- a great teacher (kids need to learn to be gentle and protective) and a motivator (you can play with Button, if first you______) and a good example of planning for a rainy day (she hides food all over the cage for the event of famine).

Here's to Hamster Heaven, that she finds all the peanuts and cheese she can hold in those incredible cheeks!

Sorry to hear about Button. She does sound like she was a great teacher.

Spark Points

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Hey- I walk my behind off 30 minutes through the sand, sweat and sun and get How many points? 6!!!!!!

But I can sit here on that same behind and work through my spark mail and get 3 (or more) times as many points by clicking buttons. I will give a SparkGoodie to anyone who can make that make sense to me!

I think about that all the time. Another thing I noticed is if you record your strength as individual exercise you get 1 point for each exercise, but you might only take a minute or two to complete that and you have to do cardio for 5 minutes to get that point.

Picking up starfish

Thursday, May 05, 2011

If you haven't read that old story- you should. My morning begins with a walk on the beach with my girls. My walk fulfills a number of objectives, including exercise (and the multiple health benefits) for me and the dogs- And maybe more importantly, a way to feel centered, connected and to clear the cobwebs (my grand daughter would call it "stucky") of life and work from my head. On some mornings, i am presented the opportunity of finding beach treasures- like this morning, a plethora of starfish. As I pick them up and throw them back, I think of my husband (the scientist) saying "they probably won't survive" which to me means EXACTLY "they possibly will". Some are now 4 legged or have been picked at by the birds- but you can see they are making a path towards the water, very slow- but in the right direction as the water. There are so many parallels to life- I could go on and on- but instead, I hope others will make their own decisions; should you take the second to help a little?

I to like to think of the reverse, while many may not survive some will and you had a hand in that. You are definitely a glass half full person, good for you!!!
