The Brace is off!

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

I saw the orthopedist yesterday and he said that I could take off the brace! I am allowed to swim with my left arm kept down by my side and I can jog. I still can't lift anything heavier than 2 pounds, so, no heavy pots of water, etc. I feel so much freedom! I am committing to doing 10 minutes of real exercise every day to get me back into the habit. Once I have done that for 3 months, I will increase my time until I am up to 30-45 minutes at least 5 times a week. I am excited to see the weight come off again. Let's pray that I have a renewed vigor to keep up the lifestyle!

A 2 week push for vacation

Saturday, July 10, 2010

I have about 2 weeks before I go on vacation to Florida. It is easy to stay on track once I get there as my mother- in- law has the same goals as I do and we do all the cooking! It will be tricky during the 2 day drive from the greater Houston area to the Forida panhandle. There are some times where we stop for food and there are no healthy options available. I need some support in this area. I am going to work on a healthy version of Bunny Fluff. It is a South African dish that is delicious. It won't be too hard since it has a lot of flavor in the dish. I'll let everyone know how it turns out! I want to be 2 pounds lighter by the time I get to Florida so that I can jump start my enthusiasm for the program to carry me through vacation! Any Ideas are welcome! Have a great summer!

I haven't taken a vacation lately, but I've been reading about others who are preparing portion sized snacks to take with them. Take some fresh fruit, granola bars, cut veggies, etc. Packing a cooler can not only save you money, but it can also save you calories! Also, when eating out, ordering a kid's meal from a fast food restaurant will be a lot less calories and now you can opt for the fruit cups/slices and yogurt instead of fries! If ordering an adult-sized portion, try to split it w/ someone else, as it is usually double of what we really should eat. Most of all, have fun! Prepare ahead and you will be less stressed!

A fantastic Fourth!

Monday, July 05, 2010

I had a great 4th of July. I didn't overindulge in food. I can't say that I made all healthy choices, but I kept it to a minimum. This is probably the only holiday where I don't have a means to go completely healthy. We are at a park where there is a big celebration that starts at 5pm. We listened to Salsa music and ran down water slides and jumped in moonwalks, got our faces painted, enjoyed mediocre food ( my 13 year old claims the gumbo was the bomb) and talked with friends who were experiencing the event for the first time. I kept my portions reasonable and I walked till my body hurt. We enjoyed the amazing fireworks and then spent the next hour and a half leaving the park with 10,000 other people who were trying to get across this little bridge to stand in line for an hour to get on a bus. We got home by 11:30 pm and crashed. I am an early riser, but, everyone else is sleeping in! I gotta love it!

The exercise saga

Thursday, July 01, 2010

Well I have tried to keep up with the exercise during my recovery from shoulder surgery. It has been hard. I am only allowed to walk, so, I thought that I would walk my heart out! The reality is too much of any activity makes my shoulder ache. The good news is that I am maintaining my weight loss. I am taking a positive attitude on this - having a time of maintaining allows my body to adjust to the new weight so that I can be more successful with keeping it off! What do you think about that?

What did I do?

Friday, June 25, 2010

Somehow, I lost 4 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks following my surgery on my shoulder. I can only walk for my exercise and I watch what I eat. I didn't think that was enough to make me lose that kind of weight. I'll take it because I don't expect to see that again until I can really get back into exercising again! Have a great weekend everyone!

Yeah, that often happens when people have surgery. Don't ask me why or how. But I went in for an in and out surgery and I lost 10 lbs. I was loving it because like you said it will never happen again.

Peace and Love
