There's cleaning house and Then There's cleaning HOUSE!

Today seems to be a day of epiphanies! Yesterday, I bought a new soap dispenser that was pumpkin shaped because it would add a cute yet functional decoration to my kitchen fall look. I couldn't get it to release the pump so that it would work. I am getting frustrated because I am turning and turning the pump to release it and it isn't releasing! I put it down thinking that I would return it to the store tomorrow.

Well, this morning, I picked it back up to look at it. I tried to see if another pump would fit the bottle. Two pumps were close, but, not quite. I took another look at the cute little green pump that came with the cute little orange pumpkin looking bottle. I thought of the nose sprays for our allergy meds. I tried to slide the outer shell to the pump to see if it would come off, just like our allergy spray bottles do and well - EUREKA! The sleeve came off and the pump now works! I am proud of myself for having the brains to figure that one out (insert sarcasm).

I am also going through a book called The House That Cleans Itself. I can live clean, but the other 5 people in my house don't seem to have gotten that gene in their systems (yet). Mine developed from living with parents who were slobs. I hated living like that and I also hate cleaning. So I had developed a way to live that doesn't require more than a 10 minute routine each day. It included picking up after myself and putting things in an acceptable place. That works if everyone is doing the same thing and doing it in a timely manner. The more people that live in your house, the more difficult it is to stick to that practice. I had never thought about how to teach this to my 4 minor aged and one adult aged house mates.

So, I got the book with the hopes that I can get everyone on board and ready to contribute to the overall look of our house. I read chapter one which talks about how the system works, and chapter 2 which give the first step to achieving the goal of a clean house.

I found the floor plan to our house and copied it. I highlighted the areas of my house. I even differentiated between common and private areas of the house.

My next thing to determine is the flow pattern in my house. That means, determining which door is used most for entry into the house and then determining the area of my house that I most need to have clean to feel good. It took some real thinking since I wasn't even sure I had just one area! I did figure it out this morning that it had to be the kitchen/breakfast area. I tend to perseverate on how much it isn't clean and how much I would love to wake up to a clean slate in those two rooms. Then I need to order the rest of my house in how I want to clean from rooms that I need to keep clean the most to the least.

I have decided to ask my husband what his area is so that I can make it a high priority as well. After all, he would like to come home and be able to relax, which greatly enhances the marraige. By the way, that is my third epiphany. Knowing that the kitchen/breakfast area is my Home base area is number two.

I then had a different thought. Why don't I take the same approach to my exercise! I have gone backwards in my battle to have a healthy body. I am back to square one with a couple of pounds added! I am not happy with that and I want to get back to losing weight, eating healthy, and looking good. Why don't I just take all the areas of my body and determine which area I feel good when it looks good and make that my top priority! That by the way is epiphany number 4! I am most unhappy with my core and that is where I am going to start. If that is the only exercise that I get done today, then I will be happy. I will then add other things to my routine when I have conquered the core routine. If I can go for a walk or a bike ride on top of that, then great!

I think having one epiphany is awesome. Having 4 epiphanies is out of this world! Let's see if this approach to house cleaning works as an approach to exercise. I will blog every day to let you know how it is working for me.

I am going to do my pilates routine today and then I will work on my house.

So you can see, there is cleaning house ( my physical residence where I eat and sleep) and there is cleaning HOUSE ( my healthy living aspect)!

    I love your blog - and am certain that you will have even more ephinanies !! Recently you sent a response to one of my comments about one of your comments (whew!!) and that prompted me to get the HTCI on my Kindle yesterday. AND I LOVE THE BOOK! Thanks for the prompt!! I'm a fan of FLYLADY also, and can't disagree that you should check her out - but HTCI seems to be a good companion plan. Maybe the two together will be just what I need! Thanks!!!

Didn't even know!

I have been going through this whole week feeling tired. I was exercising and running kids around to summer swim league practices and doing my best to keep up the house.

Today, I got to sleep in and read and sleep and read and sleep. I finally figured it out that I was sick. I should have done this back on Monday. The chills were what confirmed it for me. That and now I can breathe through my nose and I have stopped sneezing.

Moms get caught in this vicious cycle where we ignore our basic needs and then wonder why we crash into a state where there is no choice but to lay there and wish we were dead! Now that I am feeling better, I am going to plan my Sunday School lesson and find a snack for 12 cute little whirlwinds that need to be kept active or they turn into full blown tornados!

MS 150

Yes! This is me doing the MS 150 from Houston to Austin. I was wiped out from the event. I made it to La Grange and that was it. My son, Stephen also did the ride with me. He had stomach cramps on Sunday and we decided to call it quits.



I am glad I did this ride, and I want to do it again next year! I learned a few things:

I need to learn how to change gears a little more smoothly.
I need to learn how to do hills.
I need to ride with more confidence at home!

If there is someone out there that can give me tips on how to do these things, It would be great! I look forward to hearing from you.

    Okay, I've done the San Antonio MS 150 several times and do century rides often. To get better you have to ride. To get better at climbing hills, you have to train on hills. So, I would recommend that for 4 weeks you do 5 hill repeats (short hills at first that last 1 minute) once weekly and 5 speed intervals (also 1 minute) also once weekly. Once weekly you do a long ride. On the 5th week, you ride nice and easy.
Your schedule should look like this:
Mon - Easy Ride
Tues - Hill Repeats
Wed - Easy Ride
Thurs - Speed Intervals
Fri - Easy Ride
Sat - Long Ride
Sun - Rest or Easy Ride

Adjust the number and length of your repeats/intervals/long rides every 4 weeks.

I've followed this schedule for years and it works for me. Good Luck.

A little Spa day with friends

I found a website that shows you how to make facial masks and lip gloss and other things with stuff in your kitchen.

My brownie co-leader and I decided to try it with our girls and include the moms. We had so much fun! We took pictures of each other in our silly painted faces, we painted our nails in outrageous colors (thanks to my teenage daughter's supply),and we made Kool-Aid flavored lip gloss . Everyone brought some food and we had a blast. The girls ran around the house creating havoc for the boys while the moms talked and enjoyed each others' company. I would love to have another event where we get to hang out and have fun! Maybe I will try this with my church members. It was better than a vacation.

I am just a little bit frustrated

I can't seem to put my finger on it. I am frustrated but I can't attribute it to any one thing. It is a bunch of little things that creep up on me and get me into this rut. I just want a nice, normal, slow week where I don't have to think about 10 different things at the same time. I get frustrated with other people's procrastination. I get frustrated with my husband ( who is working from home right now), I get frustrated with kids who don't want to do house chores when they are being told to do them! Always and excuse!!!!

I just needed to vent, Please don't respond to this blog emoticon
