Wonderful Hike

Hello all!
PROGRESS! Things have been going well the last couple weeks. Although I often miss my ranges, I am consistently tracking my food. I am spotting my trouble areas and working on a plan of attack. The biggest one is nighttime snacking! I will be within my ranges... until around 8:30 pm. Oops!

This weekend was full of activity. On Saturday I took all four kids to the park. We walked to and from, and the neighbors tagged along. We played tennis for two hours. When I wasn't playing, I was jogging around the court retrieving the balls for the players.

Yesterday was the big one. The weather was FANTASTIC. So we decided to go on a trail walk around the local lake. I did four miles on hilly terrain pushing a stroller and carrying the baby backpack! According to the info I could find online I torched 1,000 kcal! WHEW!

I can honestly say that I would not have been able to have such an active weekend 40 pounds ago. This weekend served as a great reminder of all of the progress I have made so far.

More to come as the weather gets cooler and cooler! Maybe in a few weeks we can do the full 6.9 mile loop around the lake!

    I'm so the same way when it comes to that after 8pm thing. I just keep fruits/veggies or yogurt close at hand that way I at least don't eat bad foods. good luck with that...I'm fightin right along with ya!

what a nice hike...awesome! it's amazing what we can accomplish when we start taking care of ourselves. way to go!

I think I may be losing my mind.

Well... more so than usual.

I have heavily fallen off of the weight loss bandwagon. I constantly feel HUGE. Weak. I know why I feel this way - inconsistent tracking along with zero exercise. Particularly the lack of exercise since it is my primary method of mood stabilization.

My pants fit the same... measurements are the same... but I feel weak and fat.

I bought a play pen for the baby so I can at least try to work out tomorrow. I also didn't buy any junk snacks at the grocery store. Oh, and this morning I recognized that I was full and threw away the leftovers instead of forcing myself to eat more. Don't want to feel icky like this anymore!

Why Hello There!

Why hello everyone!

It's been quite a while since I last blogged - over a YEAR! GAH! Thanks to the app I haven't completely fallen off, but I don't think there is a way to blog through the app.

The past year has been absolutely insane. First, I had my beautiful baby boy. His name is Eddie and he is just the most awesome baby ever. So, the total of kids in the house is FOUR. An 8 month old baby, a 7 year old autistic boy, a 10 year old boy, and a hormonal 12 year old girl.

Add in working full-time and my responsibilities with Cub Scouts and, well... Spark had to go down on the priority list.

I am no longer working full-time. I left a job I really didn't like to go into business with my husband. He does amazing tile installation. However, he is not a business man at heart! So I run the books for the business, and am working on setting up the LLC, working with accountants and lawyers, etc. I do it from home which mean I get to play with my kids throughout the day as well. Of course, I end up doing a lot of the work at night when the kids are in bed, but it will get easier once the oldest three are back in school.

The last time I got weighed at the doc's office, I was in the very low 160s. I find that AMAZING. That is a loss of 20% of my starting weight! I go to stores and find cute clothes that FIT! I have barely been paying attention to my diet and haven't been exercising at all. I want to get back in the groove. I have started tracking again via the app, but I miss reading the blogs of my beloved Sparkfriends! I will be trying to catch up on blogs over the next few days. Missed ya'll!

Aaaaaand now the baby wants more breastmilk. Gotta dash...

Quick Vent

This is a silly, random vent. Please feel free to skip this blog emoticon

I'm going to try to figure out how to contact Spark and see why this is happening, but I am super frustrated right now.

I am a slow runner. Most of the time, I embrace it. I'm a proud member of the Slow, Fat Runners Team (if you're like me, check out that team! Lots of love and support over there for us slow pokes!).

For a while, Spark has admitted that I have a 14 to 15 minute per mile pace. These past two runs, I have run as hard as I could, and Spark is still calculating my calories as "walking: 4 mph (15 minutes per mile)."

So, aside from the slight insult of being calculated as "walking," I am still showing a calorie burn at 15 minute miles. Out of frustration, I found a pace calculator online, and both of those runs were under 14 minute paces! It finally says "14/Min/Mile" under the "Pace" section, but calculating my calorie burn at 15 minutes. Why?

    It has nothing to do with how slow you are. I am not a fast runner nor a slow runner, just right in between. My nike+ would say I ran at a certain pace and when I tracked it the pace and calories were way off. so I just kinda input my own information after deleting the erroneous stuff of course.

    I'm sorry it's so frustrating!! I think the problem is just that they don't have anything between the 12min mile and the 15min mile pace! I can't even find the 14min/mile pace you mentioned! I think I ran into this before and I just recorded it as a quicker pace for less time. I also wish there was running @ "x"min/mile on hills (like for my race), but then I think we are getting too technical!

    That is frustrating. I'm a slow runner, too. I think the calories burned is determined by how hard your body is working more than how fast you're actually running. Of course, you will burn more calories the faster you run, but I don't buy into the fact that you can calculate calories burned based solely on speed. Have you considered buying a heartrate monitor. Those are more accurate. I love mine. Then you can manually enter your calories burned.

I can see where that would make you feel bad.

March Goals and Progress Thus Far

As some of you know, I came up with a points system last month to use with my goals. I put a points value on each goal, and then also came up with a goal to complete a certain number of the mini-goals. I get rewards based on how many points, and how many of the goals I complete. It was a huge success; even though I didn't meet all of my goals, I didn't become unmotivated.

With that in mind, I am going to repeat the exercise this month, just changed up a little bit. Below are the goals, and the number of points that I can get for each goal. In parenthesis, I've added in how many points I have for each one.

For reaching 190 points, I will reward myself with a hair cut. For completing 10 out of the 13 goals, I will reward myself with a jeans-buying trip to Goodwill (badly needed by this point!).

We are currently 19.35% through the month.

1. Run 50 miles - 50 (12 = 24%)
2. Eat in range 27 days this month - 27 (5 = 18.51%)
3. Drink 8 cups of water per day for 27 days - 27 (5 = 18.51%)
4. Save $100 - 1 (0)
5. Read with the boys 13 nights this month - 13 (3 = 23.07%)
6. Brush my teeth 28 days - 28 (5 = 17.85%)
7. Consume 4 servings of produce each day for 25 days this month - 25 (4 = 16%)
8. Do 350 dumbbell rows - 7 (45 completed = 12.85%)
9. Do 500 push-ups - 5 (80 completed = 16%)
10. Do 1,000 squats - 10 (250 completed = 25%)
11. 1,600 seconds in plank position - 16 (16.25%)
12. 350 minutes stretching - 7 (13 minutes completed = 3.71% - YIKES)
13. 1,100 fitness minutes - 11 (258 minutes completed = 23.45%)

I know the system sounds a bit convoluted, but it is really working for me!

The exercises at the end are part of the Sparking as a Team Challenge, which is dedicated to Tara this month. I suggest everyone take a look into the team, it's pretty small, but lots of cheering each other on! You do not have to do the same amount; everyone just does what they can, and hopefully we balance each other out so that the team meets the team goals.

The stretching/yoga one is going to be a big challenge for me. We'll see what happens!

I also have my 10K coming up on March 16th, and I am already getting twitchy! I am a very slow runner, a whopping 15 minute pace. I looked up the race results from last year, and only two people were that slow: the last two people to cross the finish line, and they were both senior citizens. I know I can run the distance, no problem. I'm hoping it'll go a bit faster than I do on the treadmill. The atmosphere for that race last year (I did the 5K that day) was fantastic, and I expect the same atmosphere this year as well. After this race, I am going to train for a couple of 5Ks. I want my speed down a bit, so my focus will shift from mileage to speed.

    You're a slow runner at a 15 minute pace? I wish I could pull that pace off! LOL. Good luck with the 10 K. I've only done fundraiser 5ks and they are a lot of fun! Just remember dont get all excited and go faster then you can handle at the start! Just take your time!

    You are doing so great! I find that my time greatly improves during races. There is more going on to keep my mind off of what my body is going through. I think you will surprise yourself and run it a bit faster than your 15min miles!
