XC Skiing

Saturday, December 29, 2012

Dug out the old cross country ski equipment today. It's been a couple of years since I went out. Just went around the loop, the same path I was walking a few weeks ago. It's a good workout breaking a trail in the new snow.

I was thinking about when we bought these skis, boots and poles. It was back when my parents first moved into this house, and that would be about 40 years ago! I think some of the waxes - yes, these are the old wooden skis that you wax yourself for different temperatures - are just as old. I had picked out wider skis with stouter bindings for trail breaking. They still work fine.

I didn't go very far or very fast, but it was good to get out to play instead of doing chores. There were a few tracks of some kind of small creatures in places, squirrels I think. It's snowing out there again now, so it'll all be new again in the morning, just a couple of inches. Maybe I'll give it a go again then. I suppose it'd be easier to break a trail with snow shoes first, and use the skis after, but I don't have snowshoes just now.

Looking ahead a few days, I think we're going to have a cold spell next week. They're forecasting below zero temps for a few nights. I think I'll dig out another blanket.

I love the fact you turned a 'negative' - the extreme weather conditions - into a positive 'play time'! emoticon

Think of it as cross training to go with your other exercise.

Sounds like you got a good workout in. We didn't even get enough snow last night to shovel.

Brr!! I have a pair of surf shoes,, that is my style.. for swimming at Whitefish Point and other parks with stony bottoms. You can have that cold air, fresh or not.. I love the trails in the summer though!!
It is kind of cool that you still have the "antique skis".

Sunshine!

Friday, December 28, 2012

The storm wasn't so bad at all. I found 6" accumulation in the area I didn't clear. It's a beautiful sunny day with temps in the mid 20s.

Been feeling pretty low today in spite of all. I think it's because I didn't sleep very well last night - too short and too restless. Hope to get in a nap this afternoon.

Hope you're feeling more up today. We haven't seen much in the way of sunshine for a few days now, but no significant snow.

Snow Today

Thursday, December 27, 2012

It's our turn with the snow storm. Looks like we may get around 10-15 inches around here. I don't think I'll be going for a bike ride today.

Not unless your's is a stationary bike! Sounds like you'll burn all the calories you need to just shoveling your way out.

Wow - the UK grinds to a halt when there's an inch or two of snow! Just rain, rain and more rain here emoticon

Better you than me, I hate shoveling.. If you are lazy like me, just put your garage door up, put the gear in reverse, put the pedal to the metal and make your own tunnel to the street!!
(It helps if your car is on fire or your neighbors are standing outside with a gazillion blow dryers)

Stay warm.

I can't even imagine that much snow! I live in southern New Mexico and we don't get much snow. Stay safe and warm!

WOW -- sounds like fun! Although I'm glad that when it snows here in Albuquerque, that it's usually only a few inches, and then it melts away -- so it doesn't ruin any outdoor exercise activities I usually have planned. Cept for when it's freezing! Like lately. hah. :-)

No Turkey

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

Just couldn't face another fowl meal today. Had a little piece of salmon fillet along with some beans and collards, a little bread pudding for desert.

I may soon wish I'd done the same. I now have what looks like a couple of gallons of turkey broth, and several pounds of meat to figure out how to use up. Guess I'll be hitting the recipe page for ideas!

Ditto. Only went a little overboard with the candy, cookies, and other assorted goodies. I guess you know where I will be tomorrow - in the gym.
