Hope you enjoyed your Christmas. I walked my 10,000 today even though I didn't want to...

Angelfood Anchor

Sunday, December 23, 2012

Just for fun today, I tried making an angelfood cake from scratch - sifted whole wheat flour, home fresh eggs, the works. Recipe called for some almond flavor besides the vanilla. Didn't have any, so I grated a little nutmeg in instead. It was looking fine until I over mixed it when I stirred in the flour and sugar. It still had a little loft to it, but not much. I'm not saying you could drive spikes with it, but if you tied it to an angel, I think it would be earthbound. It sure tastes great with that nutmeg in it though.

Baked bread today too. It came out fine. emoticon

That is why they call them RECIPES! For a reason. You broke up the fluidity of the batter with that dry nutmeg. Best tasting hammer on the block though,eh? Enjoy!

From the Weekly Stargazing Tips

December 21
Today is the winter solstice, when the Sun stands farthest south in the sky for the year. It marks the end of autumn and beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere.

Have a happy solstice. Welcome to winter.

Tired, But Active (sort of)

Thursday, December 20, 2012

Didn't sleep as well last night as I'd have liked to, had some stressful things happen yesterday.

Pretty sleepy today. Times I sat down to relax I tended to nod off. But got a few things done anyway. Climbed 20 flights of stairs, did my weight lifting routine, albeit, not all at once, got most of the rest of the snow/slush/ice out of the driveway.

Managed to keep at the bottom end of my calorie recommendations. Spent most of the day when I wasn't doing that stuff being a couch potato, more or less.

Walking, And My Darling Clementine

Saturday, December 15, 2012

Today I ignored my fears about what others might think and walked to town. It's 4 1/2 mi. to the first place I needed to go (the Radio Shack for a memory card for my camera), and another 1/2 mile uphill to the grocery store (heart monitor hit the upper 140's - my little fitbit flower was overjoyed). Caught a taxi ride home. I ended up with a little over 7 miles for today. I'm resting. My fitbit is resting. We're both recharging our batteries.

AND. I finally managed to get in all my calories and all my carbs without going way over on my fats. I snacked profusely on clementines. Oh yea, I also had a smoothie for breakfast. Then I got too busy to have my usual habitual mid-morning hunger. Did I mention that I put my ham and cheese into the food processor to make lunch? Not only did it make a great ham salad, but somehow, when my back was turned, about a cup of mustard greens got ground up in there too. Yummy.

Ahhh. Clementines. My favorite snack this time of year! I always carry a few with me on my daily walks.

I like that person who put mustard greens in your blender when your back was turned (smile).

Wow, that's a great walk. I have to have enough protein in the morning for breakfast in order to make it to lunch without a snack. (No second breakfast allowed for me!) Apparently, Pickie has never had ham salad. I've never put mustard greens in ham salad. Pickle relish, yes. My favorite greens are kale and spinach!

Awesome walk. I wondered what the flower and some kind of weird little creature on my Fitbit. I need to find out what it is telling me! Oh and the Hobbit joke....I recognize that kind of humor in my DH! Funny emoticon
