The heat is on

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

The weather here is back in the high 90's and humid but feeling like it's over 100. My son and I waited until the heat went down to go out and play in the park. It felt so good out there we didn't want to go home. Today is supposed to hotter than yesterday, but I have to go out in it to run some errands.

Oh well, I guess I won't melt. emoticon

I was hoping I would melt some weight off during my walk to the postoffice today. It is in the 90's and humid as all get out. I want some rain and cooker temperatures.

Fireworks

Sunday, July 04, 2010

What is going on with the 4th of July. We just came in from seeing fireworks. That was on July 3. Some towns around me are having their fireworks tonight, some today, and some are having them on Monday. One town had theirs on the last Saturday in June. I remember when the 4th of July was the 4th of July. I also see that many towns aren't having parades and fireworks because of the economy...how sad.

Well, I hope everyone has a great day today.

Our local baseball team has great ones tonight after the game. I have noticed that another local place changes the date depending on where the 4th falls during the week.

There are two public fireworks events in our county this year; one on July 3 (last night ) and one tonight. Rain has threatened both but last night we went anyway and watched it from our car parked along the beach in light sprinkling rain. Like you said, these were staggered to allow people to go to both! Happy 4th! emoticon

Some around here stagger there displays so more people will come to theirs from the surrounding areas. That way they are no competing. Have a good one.

Remember when Parades didn't cost money? the high school bands played for free the social clubs walked carrying banners, the Shriners rode there little cars around in circles, the clowns walked handing out candy, and of course the horses pranced at the back of the parade with only the street sweeper following them! there were tractors pulling flat bed trailers with church choirs riding on them. the boy and girl scouts marched by troops, the car dealers offered their convertibles for the prom queens and their court and also the politician's. Funny how everything costs money these days.

Pics from my daycation in Philly

Friday, July 02, 2010

There is so much to see, do, and learn, in Philly. We had a great time and I'm looking forward to spending time there in the future because you can't do everything in one day.

We went to the following places:
The Visitors Center
The U.S. Mint
The Quaker Meeting House

RideThe Duck

The African American Museum

The FIrst Library

National Constitution Center
