The Zoo and Going Green

Sunday, June 06, 2010

Personally I don't care for the concept of zoos, because I feel that animals shouldn't be kept in cages. But I understand how much good they do for the animals that are there. They had a lot of information on the programs that help support a number of animal organizations.

A few things I'm concerned about is how the rain forest has been destroyed, how the number of elephants and other animals have been severely decreased, and I was surprised that a lot of companies contribute to these issues by using material and ingredients in their products.

I'm going to check more into the products I use in order to do my part to go green.

Zoos can do a lot of good, and not just for the animals in captivity. They help with scientific research & mating captive animals to help repopulate endangered species in the wild. I understand your point about animals not belonging in cages, & I'm sure there are unscrupulous zoos out there that mis treat the animals, but there are also lots of zoos that do a lot of good (The San Diego Zoo, The Columbus Zoo, & my personal Favorite The Cincinnati Zoo are all very active in scientific & conservation endeavors around the word).

As for the going green thingy, I think one of the biggest changes anyone can make is to try to support your local (organic if possible) farmers markets & food suppliers.

Good luck

Chuck

Water Exercise

Saturday, June 05, 2010

A friend took me to a class for people with fibromyalgia. It was something I'd been wanting to do for a long time. The water was warm and we did a full workout for an hour. There was easy listening music playing, and the instructor told funny jokes and riddles which kept us laughing. We did various types of arm and leg movements and used a few water toys. At the end we did a meditation as we floated in the water. I used a belt which sort of helps you float. This morning i can feel tell I had a good workout- I can feel it all over. I'm looking forward to going back next week.

Mr. Exellence

Thursday, June 03, 2010

My son graduated from a program in his school that helps mentor boys with skills they need to learn like how to be a productive man. It's called Building Men. They learned about finances, doing chores, brotherhood, helping others, etc. All schools should have such a program for young boys.

Thanks to those teachers who take their time to spend on the future generation.

At the end of the program they selected the top 4 boys for certain categories.

My son won the Mr. Excellence Award. He was excited and wasn't expecting it. He really deserves it because he is a very unique individual.

He has struggled with academics , but he has continued to do over and beyond what is expected of him. He was bullied at one point but instead of getting angry, he joined the bully committee and gave speeches to the students on how to not be bullied and how bullies can stop being bullies.

He's only 11, but he's wise beyond his years.

He has so many ideas and is such a loving and caring person. The teachers all love him and can't wait to tell me that every time I go to the school.

I am truly blessed and grateful to have him as my son.

Better night's sleep

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

I got a new mattress yesterday. It's the first good one i've had since i was a teenager. I have back problems and my doctor told me years ago to get a good one, but I couldn't afford to. So a friend took me to a place that was going out of business and had everything marked down...way
down. I found the bed and mattress for a good price and it's just what I wanted.

It made a difference. I still tossed and turned but not as much.

I am so happy for you!

We spend most of our lives on our feet or in bed, yet the places we tend to scrimp is on mattresses and shoes.
