HELP! Worried about tonight.

Tonight my daughter is in a fashion show. I know there will be all kinds of food there. I haven't been out since I started SP 3 weeks ago. I am worried. I got up early this morning and prepared breakfast and lunch. But I don't know what to do about dinner. Do I eat before I go? Should I save my fruits and milk and bring them with me. I really don't want to go overboard today. Help!!!

    Drink plenty of water when you get there. It will keep you full so you won't eat as much. And don't stress if you do go over we all do it from time to time. Keep your head up and good luck with tonight. Much love to you and yours.

    Definitely eat something healthy before you go. Make sure to include bulky stuff to help you feel full (fruits and veggies and maybe a whole grain), plus some protein to stave off the hunger longer.

Once you are at the party, carry a bottle (or glass if it's a fancy party) of water with you everywhere you go. This helps in many different ways. First, water will make you feel full. Second, many people mistake thirst for hunger. But most importantly...you need two hands to eat standing up. One to hold the plate, and the other to put the food into your mouth. If one of those hands is busy holding your water.....

I can't tell you how many times this has actually worked for me. It doesn't mean I don't ever eat the yummy hors d'oerves, it just makes it really difficult. If you absolutely must splurge, try to be smart about it. Fill your plate with veggies and a shrimp or two (cocktail, not the stuffed, fried kind) then allow yourself one or two of your favorites so you don't feel cheated.

My last strategy is to find someone really fascinating to talk to, preferably far from the food table. Introduce yourself to someone new and really listen to what they have to say. After all, parties are supposed to be about socializing, not food.

I'm feeling a bit tired today. In need some encouragement. At least the sun is shining again. I'm happy to see all the snow melting even though it has left huge potholes in the streets. emoticon

Feeling Good

I made a promise to myself this year to take care of me. One of the things I do for myself is go to the beauty salon. I hadn't been to one in 5 years. My hair had broken off terribly, I'd just throw on a hat or a wig and keep it movin'. I've been going about every 2 weeks, since January. I had to get it cut short in order to get rid of some of the damage. Ouch!!! That was a hard one for me, but it looks good and it feels healthy and that's what I want for my life and my body. It's growing pretty fast and I get a lot of compliments on it. The funny thing is that the people I've met over the past few years, who have never seen my hair, either don't recognize me right away or are amazed that I look so different.

Actually just the act of doing something for myself gives me more confidence to do and try other things. When I walk out of the salon I feel like a new person.

    WoW, that is wonderful...Good for you!!! Some times as women we forget to take care of ourselves between work (or job hunting in my case) and kids and spouses and dinner and dishes and all the other things we try to squeeze into a 24 hour period.

You inspired me to think of me, so next week when I am in Los Angeles visiting family I am going to make an appointment for a pedicure for mom and I and have some ME time too. Thank you for your blog!!!

What I am Grateful For

Today I spent the day relaxing at home-- after I did my cardio of course. I am so grateful for my family, my home, my car and most important my health. I have been diagnosed with a few things that I have to keep an eye on. I feel the symptoms of them but I don't, no, I refuse to let them keep me from exercising and living the best life I can.
