Dr happy, despite non existant weight loss recently, WII FIT arrived!

Friday, April 25, 2008

There it is, the WiiFit sitting on the living room table with the stuff that comes with it. Not the Wiimote, that is there for size comparison. I'll get to try it this weekend. It is strangely heay and solid feeling, more than I expected, and very low to the ground.

Went to Dr for physical trhis am, he was happy with the direction in which things are going, told me to consider thyroid testing if weight loss stagnated for too long. Bood BP, pulse, everything else and significant kilos down since last time too.

I switched over to the new scales and tossed the old. The new scales measure up a bit from the old and the dr scales, but they do body fat, etc, so time to change. No recent weight loss to speak of despite MUCH activity and good eating. I will still need to experiment with calorie ranges and maybe try calorie cycling. Fell great though and definitley lost at least a size, maybe a size and a half since starting, bought 3 new tops all much smaller shopping yesterday. I will wait until new scales correspond with old weigh in to change anything, hopefully soon, desptite stagnant weight loss.

Weather has been beautiful for walking for the past few days, in the high 70's and sunny. This is why I live in the South of France for sure! I walked out my favorite pair of tennis shoes and must replace them today. I'm looking into New Balance walking shoes but can't find anything serious in the center of town, everything is too fashion -oriented, especially for women. It is true that French women aren't big exercisers.....

Body Fat % down 2% since the last time I measured, also a good thing.

Yeah, I second that :). Tell me how it is, I am tempted, I love new fitness games!

Sometimes the scale takes time to catch up with what you see, it used to go in cycles for me (I'd lose weight, then I wouldn't but I'd look different, then I'd lose more weight, and then my body would change again and stay the same weight). It was weird, it was like it had to catch up! And it sounds like you are doing great! Keep up the fantastic work and have a great weekend. =)

Ooooh let me know how the Wii Fit works! I saw it advertised and it looks like a blast!! What a great idea and a fun way to help stay in shape!!

It sounds to me like you're losing inches...have you been measuring? I admit I'm bad about it, but I know that if you're losing inches, even if you're not seeing the scale move, you're doing everything right!! Also, you're body fat % is going down...that's awesome!!!

Enjoy your lovely weather... :D

Plateau for 3 weeks, this am minus 1.7 YEAH!!

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

I kid you not, I was on what I suppose was a plateau for the past three weeks. No visible movement on the scales, I now know the meaning of the word frustration, really deep, serious frustration. I feel like I've lost time, but that is silly, and if nothing else, I hope this experience will teach me that any movement on the scales is positive.

I also hope this stupid plateau is over.....

Having said that, I suspect I may know the cause, as I was pretty much doing what I always have been for the past two months. I have recorded everything every day and haven't gone on any binges or anything like that.

After reading a couple posts about other people's plateaux-- French word that-- I went to a site to calculate my BMR, goes with BMI but tells what you need for base calories with your activity level to maintain wight, then what you should reduce to to lose, and not go under. I suspect I had been going under with SP recommended calories a day, or at least, I should have been at the very top of SP calories a day and I was eating too litle.

I also reworked and entered the activity level I actually do each week, SP makes that easy with the charts you can consult, and found that I was getting a lot more activity than I suspected, so readjusted my start page for that too.

Now, if I eat at the middle to top of the new SP daily calories, I hope I will be ok, something like 1550-1650 instead of 1200-1350, which is kind of a big difference over a week.

Upping the calories started innocently with a super gourmet dinner out this weekend and a daily rate that came in at almost 2000 for one day, which I wasn't worried about. I then stayed on the high side of the Sp guidelines innocently for another day because we had pasta for dinner, and boy, does that add up quickly, even WW pasta.

Monday, yesterday, I read the post and redid calculations and purposely ate higher, including almosnds and more substantial snacks and meeting mt fat goal, something I had been having trouble doing on the very low calorie levels.

This is what I will try to do for the rest of the week.

I may have to think about calorie cycling but am curious to see in another week or two where upping calories takes me.

Cross your fingers for me please.

Oooh crossed finger for ya hon!!! I can imagine that would be very frustrating for ya...hopefully this will work better....I swear this losing weight thing is a huge trial and error! I know they can it's all about calories in/calories out but with women's bodies it's just not that simple. Anyway, hang in there and hopefully your plateaus (sorry, plateaux reminds me too much of gateaux! lol) are all in the past!! :D

yea for breaking the plateaux (:D spelled just for you :D). gratz on figuring out you needed to up your calories. it makes a BIG difference. be as diligent about tracking your activity as you are tracking whit you eat, and SP will adjust calories for you too :D

*does the ever decreasing butt dance just for you*

I found that when I had SP set to 2 lbs a week loss, it was giving me too few calories for my activity level as well. I had the same problem, I was working hard and hungry all the time and nothing was working. 1200-1500 is great when I was burning 1k calories per week, not 4k. My range is now about 1350-1750 and I'm finding its sufficient to lose weight and I'm rarely hungry. If I go over the top one day, I eat at the low end for 2 days and it seems to balance it out. Good luck busting your plateaux, I'll be rooting for ya.

Under 200 and I didn't even realize it! WooHoo!!

Thursday, April 03, 2008

Under 200 this week, earlier this week, and I didn't even know it! That's what the metric system will do to you! This was my first big goal, I'm really satisfied with it. Got to keep going of course, but well on the way!

This week all the Eurosparkers found out that all of our exercise had been counted for pounds and not kilos, so I was getting the calories for exercise of someone who weighed in the 90 pound range--ha! So I have been exercising A LOT more than I thought I was, just to make my minimum points every day. Someone figured it out and now I don't know what to do--settle for a happy medium between what I was doing and what SPark now says to do I think. Any opinions on this?

In the back of my mind, I thought the elliptical should burn more calories, and I was right, buit I never questioned the figures.....

My weight tracker doesn't work correctly and I can't change it for some other kilo-pound related glitch. Not a big problem.

So, under 200, something like 198ish I think, I have changed all my settings over to pounds to be sure the trackers all work the way they are supposed to. It will take some getting used to though.....and I will have to do conversions whenever I weigh myself, but that isn't a big deal either.

WAY TO GO!!!! :) That is an awesome milestone! :D Even if it's not one easily recognized in kilos. HEhehe. Thanks for the comment on my page -- I guess there's no such thing as TOO sexy, but there's that line that can be crossed between sexy and slutty/gross SO! I'm sure I didn't cross that line, so I'm feeling good. :D Still super nervous about swimming today!!! EEK! :D GO YOU!

WOW!! That is awesome!!!! You've made it to ONE-derland and that is ONE-derful!!! lol Bummer about the pounds/kilos thing though...but like QUIXOTIQUE said, sounds like you're doing great, so you probably just want to leave it all alone!! Don't fix it if it ain't broken!!! LOL Keep up the good work!

A big WoooHoooo to you! That is one serious accomplishment. That is the weight I told myself I'd never get over when I was younger, so I had a real emotional attachment to getting under it and staying there. I hope your kilo-lb thing gets resolved soon so you know what you need to be burning (but seems like what you're doing is working well, you might not want to change, hehe).

Another 2 pounds gone -16.5 total I'm THRILLED!!

Monday, March 31, 2008

I decided to weigh on Monday, after the weekend, rather than Tuesdays, just to make the weekend more accountable. So, this morning, I'm down 2 pounds to pass up the -15 goal and go to -16.5 since mid February when I started!! I'm so happy!

I tried an experiment just to see. I ate 4 days at the low end of the calorie range, one at the high end, and 2 at mid, in a kind of bell curve and I was very virtuous about exercise. The low end is pretty low and I would n't want to have to do that everyday, but maybe some of this switching around experimentation is a good thing to do every other week or so. Just to mix things up a bit more.

There was plenty of time also this past week for exercise spread throughout days not in big chunks and I'm certain that is positive.

So, I figure this afternoon I was planning on taking a big walk in town, I don't work Mondays, a very nice thing, and now I'll have an objective, maybe buy myself a present for reaching the 15 pound goal. I'm very indulgent with myself, I get presents for every five pounds gone...

I don't know what I want though. I had put down makeup, but I think we'll see, maybe something else....

I'm having to purposely put pants through the washer and hot dryer to get them to fit, a wonderful feeling, but not ready to buy new ones yet.

Looking forward now to April 11, the two months on Spark anniversary date to see where things stand then.

That is fantastic! What an accomplishment. I agree we need to be indulgent with ourselves for our rewards. I am waiting to earn my makeup reward as well! I'm going all out and going to a makeup counter and finding the right stuff that works for me!

I love that photo you picked - Plumeria right? It looks a lot like it, one of my favorites!

Too small jeans fit and another 1.3 pounds gone this past week!

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Hi all, it was weigh in day and I lost another 1.3 pounds, slow going but I'll take it. I tried on a pair of jeans I was keeping on the bottom of the pile in the closet and they fit!

I've decided to go through all the clothes in the closets progressively and when something is really too big, dump it into a sack in another closet to go to the Goodwill. I'll be left, I hope, with a very small wardrobe, eventually, that will do for work. I have always rather liked looking at the work wardrobe as a uniform--a certain number of outtfits that get rotated. Eventually, I'll have to add here and there and that's ok, no spending the big bucks though until probably about next xmas then I'll take stock and see what is going on.

This ought to work as people in France don't have big wardrobes and they shouldn't notice what is going on.

We only have sales here in July and January, so any real restocking will need to wait until those periods. I'm also going to the US in end Aug, begin Sept, so there is another opportunity.

I'm perfectly happy to just watch the clothes come progressively out of the closet and end up in the Goodwill bag, it is very exciting, very motivating. Two bras went in there this am, perfectly good bras, just way too big around the band.

I have resolved to try not to wear things that are really very much too big, I want people to be able to see the work I have done, not hide it under too big clothes!

YEAH!! A very good day so far!! I celebrated with fresh blackberries from the market the size of the first joint of my thumb, too expensive but SO good. I have also resolved that I can have fresh berries whenever I want....

I wonder if there is any chance of doing a clothing exchange. Is there anyone you know who is smaller than you and getting smaller? I have found that "shopping" my closet has been very motivational. I fit in all my old bras now but the cups are getting too big. I'll delay new ones for as long as possible though.

Congrats on the smaller jeans fitting! :D Also there's the Weight Loss Clothing Exchange Team on SparkPeople if you feel like working out some kind of donation to a Sparker. :D (I have to plug it, I made it hahahaha) Also, thanks for the comment on my blog!! I had the waist and hip "difference" column swapped, which I fixed, but it's awesome right??? :D You should definitely take measurements (I'm sure you do), ANYWAY! LATER!

Great idea of donating your loose fitting clothes to goodwill. It will keep you moving in the right direction if you know you do not need to wear those clothes ever again because your thinner. Keep you from aslo gaining it back since you would have to buy new clothes if you do.
