Living in Interesting times...

Sunday, November 08, 2009

So I had my physical. The big shocker was that I found out I was vitamin B12 deficient. Over the years I depleted my reserves. So I got a giant shot (!!) and sent off to buy sublingual B12 supplements. The change is truly amazing and I started to feel better than ever after only two days. I had no idea I was having symptoms but I was. I am still astounded; I feel like a whole new woman, and when I come home from work I still have energy left to do things, which is still marvelous every day. I also found out I have borderline high blood pressure, and for that I am supposed to lose another ten pounds. That seems hard. I am really good at maintaining right now but can't seem to lose.

When DH had his physical the Dr decided to monitor his gallstones and do nothing for now. That turned out to be a HUGE mistake, and last week we wound up in the emergency room with pancreatitis. He had his gall bladder out last weekend and has been recovering all week. I am now looking for a new primary care provider as I no longer really trust her judgement. I never felt good about her decision to wait and see, and this proved to be a pretty serious mistake.

Work is crazy, and will be at least through the end of the year. Thank goodness for B12 or I would never keep up! She did get that right, but it was a fluke; she just ordered it with my blood work because I am vegetarian.

Sounds like DH needs a new doctor. I hope he recovers quickly and completely.

I'm glad the B12 worked out for you. It feels good when you find the real answer to a problem.

Ain't life grand!

Thursday, October 01, 2009

Where to start? Last week my department at work got re-organized, just before month end an quarter close. The timing couldn't be worse. So for a week and a half I have been doing my old job and my new job, and what a handful. Everything seems to come at me from everywhere. Wow! But the new job is way more my style and I am happy about it.

Went to the Dr. with DH and the official ruling was 45 minutes to an hour of aerobic exercise a day and lose weight. So we are forced to re-commit to the diet that was somewhat stalled out. But we didn't learn anything we didn't already know, and so I actually came away feeling pretty good. While I was there I made an appointment for myself, since I haven't had a physical in about 5 years.

Low fat diet

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Yesterday the Dr. procsribed a low fat diet for the DH. Good news bad news. Since we have been tracking calories in FitDay since December 1 2008 I was able to pull a report from it that tells us how much of our daily diet is fat. 35% for DH and 31% for me. Good news, we aren't that far off. But the last couple % looks challenging though. We're already vegetarian. Good grief, do we have to give up everything good?!

Don't give up everything, just cut back your portions. Good luck!!

100 calories too many

Monday, September 14, 2009

So this morning I went back over my calorie tracking . On the plus side I am pretty consistent, and have become pretty self regulating so I come pretty close to my target every day. I also discovered that on many days I come in about 100 calories over my target. This would pretty much explain the 1/2 pound a week weight loss. So I need to either work those hundred calories off, or quit eating them. Probably a combination of both.

I'm pretty pleased that I can now eat responsibly. I can even adjust pretty well for the days I have alcohol or other treats. That feels really good. Now I just need to work a bit harder I guess. Where, oh where, is the time?!

Doesn't it stink that 100 tiny calories can make such a difference. Do something easy...find out how many jumping jacks burn 100 calories...LOL

Another half pound

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Wheee, another half pound gone, making 22 pounds on the way to shedding 40. Boy this is slow. But it is so awesome to look at the scale and see the number go down. My pants told me first though. Sometimes the scale is such a liar!

On vacation until the 21rst. Feels good to have the days at home stretching in front of me. No hurry up and relax and have fun on the weekend, because there is a whole 'nother week in front of me. emoticon

You are right there. They say the fat goes to muscle and it weighs more so this accounts for the difference plus getting toned trims you. But there is not weight change, hard to be patient is it not? emoticon
