Run #150! 5K again

This monring it was 39 when I went out, the coldest it has been I think. I wore pants, short sleeved top, arm warmers, and a light fleece, and a hat. I thought about a windbreaker but decided it would be too many layers. The fleece stayed on about half the run, and by the end the arm warmers were rolled down, but it was all about perfect. I did another 5k, not counting my cool down walk this time. It was a bit of a challenge and I felt a bit winded a couple times, but then I just tried to slow down a little to recover my breath. I'm not sure how much I slowed down, but I did get my breath back. I really want to start turning in regular 3 mile runs. This 2-2.5 mile stuff is just lazy. So that's my new resolve. I ran to the park today, which was really nice. Saw a guy on his run that I haven't seen in months and he remembered me and we traded hellos. That was fun too. Passed a couple other runners in the park toow which was nice. It is always fun to see other folks out.

Isn't it funny to think of running "only" 2-2.5 miles as lazy? Just think back to your first few runs and how far you've come!

Run #149 Less sleep = harder run

I've been doing really well on sleep lately, and I have had great runs. Last night I got to bed a bit late, and this morning I was about two minutes into my run and I was huffing along feeling like it was a kiler. Apparently that half hour makes a big difference. But I pushed on and did my run anyway.

    So glad you posted this blog today!

I stayed up late last night, watching the election returns, so only got about 5 hours of sleep.

This morning's run? Suck-o-rama! Granted, it was on a treadmill, which is always somewhat miserable for me, but this morning was significantly more miserable.

Now that you've put two and two together for me in this blog, it makes *complete* sense that the lack of sleep would negatively impact the quality of the run!

Run #148 Running in the light again

The switch from daylight savings time was great this morning, and I felt like I got 40 minutes of my morning back. In fact I worked some, got in a run, shower, breakfast, packed lunch, and left earlier than I have for a while. (And for that I got to sit in traffic...). Since it was light I just set out running where ever, and ran randomly turning up and down streets. The variety was nice and I had another good run. It was nice to get out. We had a great weekend in Monterey, but in the evening when we got back and I tried to practice my guitar it seemed to go badly and I got frustrated and down. So I really needed the extra endorphin boost this morning.

This was my Halloween run. I discovered as I was leaving the boat that my battery in my mp3 player was dead so I had no music for my run. I also decided to wear my heart rate monitor on this run for the first time in a long time to see what the changes were. According to it my heart rate was too high for a chunk of my run, as usual, but the highs weren't as high and my overall average was 156. Sitll not sure what to make of all this, but it is progress, and I had a good run and did well, even without the music to help keep me going.

I didn't get a lick or exercise in last week what with the pouring rain and month end. We had aspirations for the weekend but they died a slow death as is common. I was so lookng forward to my run this monring, and it was terrific! I wore one of my new windbreakers, which was perfect. At the end I was so hot I actually took my shirt off as well as my windbreaker (yes, I was still decent ;-))
It was great to be on the road again and I's still riding high.
