Baby ducks

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Today I saw baby ducks on my way to work for the first time this season. It seemed kind of late in the season to me, but then I realized that I have not walked through the park in a long time. So tomorrow, for my 100th run, I am going to go looking for baby ducks.

How very fun to see them. Even if you don't spot them on your run, having your 100th be back out in the park should be very pleasant!

I hope you see some! Looking for baby ducks seems like a good distraction while you're running, too.

Run #99 Almost to the milestone run!

Monday, May 07, 2012

I thought about giving myself an extra day off today because I was just feeling a little beat, and I didn't get my running clothes washed, but then I remembered if I went today I would hit 100 runs on Wednesday. So I dragged some slightly dirty clothes out of the laundry basket and went for a run. I decided I should run to Webster St & back, because I hadn't done 3 miles in a while, and I knew that would put me over. I did about 3.3 miles in 45 minutes (including warm up and cool down time). Hooray! I took a water bottle along today to see if that helped any. I drank it all, but hard to tell if it made any actual difference on the run. Though I think it is making a difference now, an hour later. It was a bit of a challenging run, but nothing like my 3 yucky ones last week. All in all, satisfactory.

Next run is #100! emoticon

Run #98 No bear to chase me

Friday, May 04, 2012

Today I set out for a shorter run because DH and I both had to be out of the house by 8, and I wanted to make sure we succeeded. Right from the start this run was a battle. I had to tell myself every step of the way that I could do 2 miles. At the end I found myself making deals with myself, as I sometimes to. "Ok girl, you can run to the end of that fence." Usually that brings back my resolve, and I go that far, or farther. Today when I was striking bargains some other voice in my head, that apparently is usually asleep at that hour, woke up and chimed in, "Sure you can. But so what? It's not like there's a bear chasing you!" emoticon I ran past the end of the fence anyway, and on to the fountain.

Maybe next time you need to growl at that voice like a grumpy bear and say "Isn't there?"

Congratulations! Some days it's really hard to keep going. I found myself slowing to a walk and telling myself "I can't do anymore". One day another voice said, "you can't, or you don't want to?" Then I decided that even if I didn't want to keep running, I wanted the results. I still have days when I slow to a walk, but they're fewer. Next time I want to stop running, I'll tell myself AIKIGAL made it past the fence and on to the fountain.

Run # 97 If Running is so good for you...

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

How come some days I feel so old after my run?
That about sums it up for today. Did 3 miles. Burned around 400 calories.
I'm knackered.

I find it gets easier with time - as if our body gets a better idea of how much fuel we need to do the run.

LOL! I have pretty much given up my dream of running--I've hurt myself too much when I've tried, so I notched down. Sounds to me as though you are doing great!

Rode my bike

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

Since today isn't a run day I woke up debating whether to try a bike ride or walk to work. I gave the bike ride a go, and went for half an hour. It was good continuous aerobic ad a managable pace. I had fun but the bike needs some tweaking. I don't think my seat is adjusted quite right yet. Also the handle bars feel okay on my palms, and my arms, but when I wrap my thumbs around the grip it puts a lot of pressure on my thumbs. I'm not sure what to do about that. Long term it is a problem to solve, but I'm not sure how...

I rode between 3-4 miles, and burned 192 calories according to my forerunner. Heart rate right on target the whole time.

I seem to remember resting my hands with my thumbs parallel to the grips at some points rather than wrapped. Perhaps a different handlebar, wider grips or different angle or position, would help. As you say - long term - so you have time to investigate and decide.

Good job. I think it helps to get a variety of types of aerobic exercise.
