Run #95 Only 5 runs from 100!

Friday, April 27, 2012

Today I headed out and noticed that my heart rate monitor wasn't doing it's usual squawking. I wondered why and saw my watch wasn't getting input. Then I realized I had not put my moniter on! It was kind of nice actually to run without it squawking incessantly. I did 3 miles today. I feel in some ways the Garmin has set back my training, and I needed to prove to myself I could do the three. I did and I can, and I didn't take any walk breaks. I just reminded myself I had done it before so I could do it again. At the end of my run I notice my speed was 5.x, My normal average pace seems to be about 4.3, and today I think my average pace was 4.7, so that may have contributed to why today felt like a bit of a killer. I may have been going faster than normal.

Have you read through the documentation to see if perhaps there is some reason the Garmin could be giving you inaccurate readings - or it's range for warning could be adjusted?

emoticon on a good run though!

wow - that's tough increasing your pace at the same time you are eliminating walk breaks. Good for you! Keep up the good work. I really like running without walk breaks because getting started running again after a walk break can sometimes be hard for me, but I usually need to decrease my pace to do that instead of increase it! On the bike again, & need some ideas

Friday, April 27, 2012

DH and I went for a bike ride after work--a whopping 23 minutes, but it is better than no exercise. I put my bike in a gear where I could pedal continuously. I enjoyed it, but the bike is a little uncomfortable. It wasn't bad riding but my thumbs were sore after. But for short rides it seems ok. I may ride to work tomorrow. DH's bike isn't going to work at all and he is very disappointed. We are now trying to figure out the next exercise idea for him. He doesn't really want to buy a new bike. He can't run or do aikido due to the plantar faciatis. Walking is iffy. Chlorine in the pool gives him asthma. Joining a gym is not really his thing. So fellow Sparkers, what haven't we thought of yet?

Ah, that's a bummer. A pity there's no way to "trade" bikes somewhere.

It turns out the bike is really too small for him (which explains why he never liked it). Either we have to spend money to try and improve it (handlbars, etc) or get a new bike.

What about the bike won't work for your DH? For example, if the seat is just too uncomfortable, sometimes just that can be replaced or a special pad added. I don't know what you have around there, but there's a shop near me that has many used bikes and can swap parts to address issues. They also helped make sure all things were properly adjusted such as seat height, which can make a lot of difference.

Run# 94

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Today was my first run since last Wednesday due to the intervening vacation. It went better than I expected to. Then I rode my bike to work, since it was tuned up from vacation and DH needed the truck today, and the car is still in the shop.

We only got in one bike ride in Monterey but it was fun, and I enjoyed it much more than the last ime I was on my bike, even though we wer riding in the road. We intended to go for a ride yesterday, but then DH didn't want to drive home in the dark, so we left early afternoon. Riding in Monterey and enjoying it definately played a big part in my willingness to get on my bike and pedal to work today. It was only 10 minutes--about the same as it takes me to drive it, if you don't count the dinking around with pantlegs and helmets & etc.

I'm sure if biking becomes more regular, less time will be spent on the pantlegs (I remember velcro straps to make that easy) and helmets and preparation.

Run #93 Chuggin along

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Today I was out for 35 minutes and did 2.7 miles. Due to the boat show I hadn't been for a run, or gotten any exercise really, since Friday. Today was a bit of a slog, but I did it. I got a stitch in my side right at the end, don't know why, but I was nearly at my cool down anyway. My heart rate monitor was back to its usual hijinks, telling me I was going to die.

We are getting ready to go on a short vacation down south. We are thinking of taking the bikes along as there are supposed t o be some nice bike trails in Monterey, and I think we can probably ride somewhere down by San Simeon. I don't know yet what will happen with my Friday run; we may be packing or on the road, etc. So the next report may be saddle sores...

Your HRM sounds like quite the contrary little device. I've had the elliptical at the gym do something like that to me - sometimes show my heart rate as high as 227 (um ... yeah ... I think I'd FEEL something if my heart were going that fast) and other times as low as 46 (would I still be standing?!)

Have a wonderful ride. Monterey is a beautiful area and usually cooler because of the Bay.

Some days...are one of those days

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Some days it is really hard to want your target weight more than you want that tiny piece of bread with just a taste of brie on it.

Today is one of those days.

Thankfully, they're not ALL those days.
