Run #90 Countdown to 100!

38 minutes today, 2.9 miles. I ran steadily the first half, then did 5 sprints interspersed with one minute of walking, then ran a final few minutes (I didn't look) then had about a 5 minute cool down. I get to work about 15 minutes late every day now, so I guess I need to start getting up earlier on run days. This is also because when I first started running I went out for half an hour in the morning. But now that I can run better and longer my run time has increased. So I'll just have to drag out of bed earlier. Non run days I should probably get up at the same time and do resistance training. I know I need it, and it will help, it has just really been a struggle to work that back into the schedule too.

Run # 89 Tired Friday

Today I only did 2.6 miles. Dinner last night consisted (accidentally) of bread with olive oil & vinegar, some french fried, some onion rings, and 2 glasses of wine. After that I was too full for real dinner so we never got to it. I woke up about 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep right away, then I got hungry. Finally fell asleep sometime after 4:00. So I was a little tired starting out. I decided to run to work and back and see how far that was. My high heart rate beeper didn't go off today until I had been running for closer to 5 minutes instead of 2. After my five minute warm up I ran all the way to work, then on the way back I did 5 sets of sprints, then walked home the rest of the way. Total time, 35 minutes.


Run # 88 Just got up and went.

Today I did not pick any destination. I just got up and ran, and had a nice run. Everything I read suggest I am way ready for speed work. So for the first part of my run I ran minute intervals at about double my normal pace I would guess, then walked for a minute in between. I did a little over 3 miles in 39.30. I feel so good after a run, all fresh and clear headed (ok, not so fresh until after the shower). I'm still surprised that I really seem to enjoy this, and I look forward to my runs.

This morning I decided to ignore the heart rate monitor on my Garmin and just keep running. I did give myself a couple minute walking break half way through my run. I don't know if that is a good idea or not--I can fantasize about all kinds of nightmare reasons not to train above my target zone, but I felt fine and my heart rate seems to sit at 177-180 conistently. It takes about 2.5 minutes of running to get the alarm to go off, then it never shuts up. I will be looking to see if it takes longer to go off in future days.

I signed myself and DH up for the Pacific Grove 5k in November today. We are tags 13 & 14. I don't know if DH's plantar facitis will let him run by then, but if not we'll have a nice walk and it's and excuse for a weekend away.

    I felt the same way when I first tried jogging. So I was always checking my HR monitor. When the weather got cold I wore long sleeves and it was harder to check...and I broke my habbit of checking it! Now I just run by feeling.
I have to go super slow to keep it under 175 when I'm outside. (On the treadmill is easier) So I just had to build up to it. After 2 months I'm finally out of the low 180's during my 5k runs.
Keep making sure DH is stretching his foot several times a day. That helped me when I had that.

Keep up the good work. Slow and consistent wins the race! emoticon

Today I pushed a little harder. I'm still working with the Garmin and the heart rate monitor and all that. I just feel kind of like I can d o more than it says I should, and like already I can't run as far as I could before. That probably isn't true. Still working on going slower. I think my pace is probably pretty irregular. Good run today.
