Today I took my Garmin for a spin. It says 40 minutes exercise, 2.99 miles, average heart rate 160. I had the heart rate monitor on set for high heart rate, and it kept going off. It seems the high end of my target zone is 150, but my exercising puts me in the 170-180 range. Trying to stay in the zone I feel like I worked a lot less hard. And it was really hard to do. But my overall distance did not decrease that much. I am not sure how I feel about this. It was frustrating trying to keep my heart rate in the zone. I kept having to slow down or walk. I know I am capable of more...I have to figure out what training outside the zone means. And maybe I have it set too low. Maybe I should have it set a little above my max? All in all interesting, but didn't feel like much of a run.

Finally. I got on the scale this morning and it said 149. Actually I'm quite shocked. I have been trying for over 9 months to get under 150, but my body has steadfastly hung out at 150-153. I really didn't expect that. Wow.

Today I did 3.34 miles in 39 minutes, 31 of them running, and the rest warm up and cool down. I have discovered while running this week that my boat is about a mile from everything here on the island. A mile to the beach, a mile to Webster St, a mile to Park St shopping/dining, and of course I already knew I was about a mile from work. It's been a good running week.
Yesterday I ordered a Garmin Forerunner 210. I'm really excited!

Today I ran to the beach and back. It was chilly and windy, but with my scarf and mittens on at the start I stayed warm enough. Although it wasn't into the wind today was a bit of a slog. Grand Street has stoplights every block or two at the north end of the island, and I haven't decided if that is convenient or not. I guess when the run is feeling kind of rough going stoplight to stoplight and getting a 20 second break while you wait for the light to change is kind of nice. My left knee was kind of tweaked after Monday's run, but today seemed ok. It got a little tweaked mid run but is ok now. I am wondering if it is because these two runs were mostly on sidewalk, and I haven't done that before. The nice thing about the sidewalks I did notice is that they are set far enough back that the driveways aren't sloping over them. Still they are concrete. Runnng different routes is kind of fun! And it is cool to decide I am going to run to the beach and back, and then do it.

When I started running I told myself I couldn't quit until I could run 30 minutes without stopping. Today I did that!
I ran from home this morning, because it was light, and also because the car got an owie this weekend and DH and I have to share the truck. This was cool because I was able to check my known mileage against my pedometer. Pedometer mileage 2.44. Actual mileage 3.16. So I definately need to calibrate again. My run was 39 minutes, 5 minute warm up, 4 minute cool down, and 30 minutes running.
