I came down with a cold. Stayed home on Wednesday, worked most of Thursday, and made it through the day Friday. I sure am tired of this cold. I was hoping to get a run in this weekend but I don't think the congestion will allow it. I will fit a walk in somewhere today though, maybe while the washers go round. In spite of spending the week eating things that sound good (jalapeno poppers and chocolate donut holes) and getting NO exercise after Monday, I did still manage to lose 0.2 of a pound. All things considered I think that's pretty good.

I was hoping I was just having allergies when my nose started running last night and my throat got a bit sore. I felt ok initially this morning, but then the sore throat came back. At 10:15 I figured I should either go for a run or shower and put my work clothes on. So I decided to try a run even though my sore throat was making me choke. I managed a 6 minute interval, a 5 minute interval, and a 3 minute interval. Hopefully that will rev up the immune system and I can fight this off. Lots of cooties flying round the office again :-( Total run time 14 minutes, walk time 17 minutes.

Today I ran a 13 minute interval, then a 3 minute interval, then did 2 one minute sprints. Total 18 minutes run time, 14 minutes walking. I think I have my pedometer correctly calibrated now and if so my distance is 1.93. So I need to add another 1.17 miles between now and June 3....and maybe get faster.
My new shoes seem good, and I love my fancy toe socks (by Iniji, with rainbow stripes).
My runs this week have been somewhat tainted by the dead coots I keep seeing, in pieces. Ick. Makes me wonder if something fishy is going on.

I had more of a break than I intended over the holidays, but it is what it is. I knew today would be a harder run so I decided to mix it up with something new, so I warmed up for 5 minutes briskly walking, then ran as fast as I could for a minute, then walked for 2 to recover. Repeat 5 times. Then I did a 3 minute interval at my normal pace, then walked back to work. What was I thinking?! 27 minutes walking, 8 minutes total run time, and I am sore! The sprinting is really tiring and was definitely work. Perhaps I will save the sprints for the end on Friday, and aim for 3 not 5...

I just got back from RoadRunner Sports, where I bought my second pair of running shoes. I have decided to do a women's 5K in June with a friend (or without her, we'll see when the time comes). DH felt left out then, so I am planning a second one in Pacific Grove at the end of November. Hopefully this will give his plantar faciatis time to clear up and he will be able to take up running. If not we'll walk it. So now I need to figure out my training plans. I know I need to start resistance training to build my upper body, but also I need to strengthen my leg muscles more. Together these should make me run more efficiently and successfully. I've had a bit of a break over Christmas/New Year's, so I am anticipating feeling a bit of a set back this week, but it is what it is. Looking forward to using my fancy new socks and my new shoes!
