Run #63 Working my way up again

Today I ran a 13 minute interval, then a 3 minute interval, then did 2 one minute sprints. Total 18 minutes run time, 14 minutes walking. I think I have my pedometer correctly calibrated now and if so my distance is 1.93. So I need to add another 1.17 miles between now and June 3....and maybe get faster.

My new shoes seem good, and I love my fancy toe socks (by Iniji, with rainbow stripes).

My runs this week have been somewhat tainted by the dead coots I keep seeing, in pieces. Ick. Makes me wonder if something fishy is going on.

I had more of a break than I intended over the holidays, but it is what it is. I knew today would be a harder run so I decided to mix it up with something new, so I warmed up for 5 minutes briskly walking, then ran as fast as I could for a minute, then walked for 2 to recover. Repeat 5 times. Then I did a 3 minute interval at my normal pace, then walked back to work. What was I thinking?! 27 minutes walking, 8 minutes total run time, and I am sore! The sprinting is really tiring and was definitely work. Perhaps I will save the sprints for the end on Friday, and aim for 3 not 5...

I just got back from RoadRunner Sports, where I bought my second pair of running shoes. I have decided to do a women's 5K in June with a friend (or without her, we'll see when the time comes). DH felt left out then, so I am planning a second one in Pacific Grove at the end of November. Hopefully this will give his plantar faciatis time to clear up and he will be able to take up running. If not we'll walk it. So now I need to figure out my training plans. I know I need to start resistance training to build my upper body, but also I need to strengthen my leg muscles more. Together these should make me run more efficiently and successfully. I've had a bit of a break over Christmas/New Year's, so I am anticipating feeling a bit of a set back this week, but it is what it is. Looking forward to using my fancy new socks and my new shoes!

  


Run 62 Post holiday catching up

I went for a run around sunset today. We had a late lunch and I was full of refried beans and iced tea and I had a bit of a headache. But I knew it wasn't going to get any easier the more days I missed. So I decided I needed to suck it up and go. So I donned the very expensive Iniji toe socks Santa brought me, and my new arm warmers, and my new fleece and off I went. Because I was too full and headachey it wasn't my best run, but it wasn't bad. I did an 8 minute interval, then two fives and a 3. So total run time still 20 minutes, but not consecutive. The Christmas holiday has only packed half a pound back, which I found quite surprising this morning, and was quite pleased about. Getting on the scale was the other thing today where I decided I just needed to suck it up and find out how bad it was. All in all, not bad for the day. The new socks were great, by the way. Can't really define why, but the fancy toe socks did feel really nice. The really expensive arm warmers were nice too-- better than the $6 ones I bought earlier on sale, though the cheap ones do the job perfectly well too. Thanks to Santa for spoiling me!

  


Run #61 Changing it up to Sprints

Today I really didn't feel like a run, but I went anyway. But 5 minutes into it I was losing steam & I knew I was going to fight myself for the next 15 minutes. It's the Holidays, it's year end, I'm tired....Working on the premise that you can do anything for a minute, I decided to do some sprints instead. I did 5 sprints of a minute each. It was actually kind of hard, but in a fun way. It took 2-3 minutes to recover in between sprints. I think I could have done a few more, but I also didn't know how my body would feel later, so I called it good. I am now thinking of incorporating a sprint or two somewhere in each run.

    LOVE doing sprints..
YES do them in your daily walks jogs & or runs..
You will burn more calories plus build endurance too..LOVE IT!!!

I do them on my treadmill I will see how fast I can do them at different speeds & inclines..

BUT I too felt like you this morning & did my run any ways & glad I did!
